In the dark cave, a series of deafening explosions continued to reverberate from outside.
On the trembling ground, a white light flashed, and a spiky-haired figure appeared in the cave. Due to the violent shaking of the ground, he immediately fell.
"So unlucky!" Touma Kamijou habitually shouted as he quickly adjusted his posture. Years of bad luck had tempered his body.
Rolling instinctively, Kamijou avoided the falling rocks that were dislodged by the continuous shaking. He curled up, preparing to brace himself for the inevitable impact against the cave wall.
"Big brother, who are you? Judging by what just happened, are you a member of the group?"
A child's voice suddenly sounded next to Kamijou. His body was intercepted, preventing him from hitting the wall. Kamijou turned his head and saw the one who had grabbed him.
The cat ears atop his head twitched slightly. Luo Xiaobai held Kamijou in his arms, curiously saying, "Big brother, are you a new member? Since you can take part in missions, you should at least be at the Legendary level. How come you got thrown around like this?"
"Haha..." Kamijou laughed awkwardly, embarrassed. "I'm not some legendary figure. I'm just a powerless student from Academy City."
His gaze drifted to the group of people curiously watching him. Kamijou quickly turned to the boy carrying him and said, "Thanks for saving me. Can you put me down now? Otherwise, I think I might die of embarrassment."
"Oh," Luo Xiaobai nodded, gently placing Kamijou on the ground. Seeing Kamijou instantly fall again, he offered, "How about I support you instead?"
Lying on the ground, Kamijou felt as if he were inside a washing machine. The intense shaking seemed determined to jostle out the last bit of stomach acid he had left.
Hearing Luo Xiaobai's offer, Kamijou nodded hurriedly.
With Luo Xiaobai's support, Kamijou finally managed to stand. Due to the shaking ground, he resembled a piece of seaweed, swaying uncontrollably.
"Kamijou! Why are you here?"
Seeing that Kamijou was finally standing, Hiroshi quickly approached. Observing Kamijou's pale face, which suggested he was about to vomit, Hiroshi picked him up.
Finally off the shaking ground, Kamijou blinked his dizzy eyes at the handsome young man in front of him, curiously asking, "Do you know me?"
"I'm Hiroshi, the one who uploaded your 'Fate Chronicle' episode. Remember?"
Nodding, Kamijou recalled the recent events and shouted again, "So unlucky!"
Holding Kamijou up to prevent him from touching the ground, Hiroshi brought him back to the table.
"Haha, this fellow member... Didn't the chat group limit mission participants? You look like an ordinary guy. How are you here for this mission?"
While laughing, Aqua's hands glowed with white light, and she attempted to heal Kamijou's arm.
Crash!
Like fragile glass hitting a stone wall, the light in Aqua's hands shattered into fragments and dispersed like moths to a flame.
Unable to believe her eyes, Aqua looked at her hand and pouted. She slapped Kamijou's arm again.
Crash!
More fragments scattered. Aqua, bewildered, glared at Kamijou and demanded, "What's going on? Why isn't the great Aqua's healing magic working?"
"Oh, about that," Kamijou scratched his spiky head, explaining, "My right hand has the power to negate any supernatural abilities. Whether it's magic, divine miracles, or superpowers, if my hand touches it, it disappears."
"Whoa, foul play!"
Excited, Kazuma Satou pointed at Kamijou and shouted, "What kind of overpowered ability is this?! It sounds like something out of a story where the protagonist is always the hero. How can you say you're just an ordinary person?!"
Staring at the green-cloaked Kazuma, Kamijou replied emotionlessly, "But it also erases anything like luck. Just this morning, I managed to step on and shatter my newly issued bank card."
"Huh?!"
Seeing Kamijou's jaded expression, Kazuma was stunned. Then, with a sympathetic look, he said, "That's quite the unlucky ability."
Walking over, Kazuma patted Kamijou on the shoulder and proudly pointed at himself. "Since you're down on your luck, let me, the lucky star, look out for you!"
"Lucky star?!"
As if hearing the call of a goddess, Kamijou looked up at Kazuma with hope in his eyes. "Really?!"
"Of course!" Kazuma crossed his arms proudly. "I'm a man with the gift of luck. Taking care of you is no problem at all. By the way, aside from that ability, you seem pretty normal. How'd you end up on this mission?"
"Well, someone needed help, so I clicked 'accept mission' without really thinking," Kamijou replied, looking Kazuma in the eyes. Then, scratching his head awkwardly, he added, "Although it seems like I'm the one who needs help now."
**[Ding! Kazuma Satou has sent a designated red envelope to Touma Kamijou.]**
"Kamijou, you're a good person. Here's a little something; just accept it and buy an adventurer's card to unlock your stats!"
Feeling touched, Kazuma patted Kamijou's shoulder while urging him to accept the gift.
Puzzled by Kazuma's emotional reaction, Kamijou still accepted the red envelope without hesitation—he was simply speaking his truth, after all.
**[Ding! Touma Kamijou has received Kazuma Satou's designated red envelope. Obtained 1,000 points.]**
"No need to feel embarrassed. I said I'd look out for you, so I can't let my guy stumble around like that."
Kamijou had been about to speak, but seeing Kazuma's proud stance, he swallowed his words, deciding to keep them to himself.
Following the knowledge in his mind, Kamijou opened the group chat's store and purchased an adventurer's card. A new blue panel appeared before him.
"Thank you for helping us."
Just as Kamijou was about to examine his game-like status panel, Riku approached him, expressing his gratitude.
Looking at the white-haired boy in front of him, Kamijou smiled and said, "I'm just doing what I want to do."
"Then come with me."
A small hand took Kamijou from Hiroshi.
Keqing glanced at the dazed Kamijou and quickly said, "Time is short, but we appreciate your help. From your explanation, it seems your ability could be crucial to our plan. Let's start experimenting right away!"
Nodding in confusion, Kamijou felt like a student following a teacher's instructions. "Yes, ma'am."
"Good." Keqing nodded in satisfaction and greeted the other research group members as they walked away.
"Let me see your stats panel."
"Oh."
