"We were supposed to be a team!" Yetta crawled out of her tent, blinking sleep away from her eyes. Nearby, she watched Cayde and Ikora argue, Carman standing near them, ready to mediate if need be. Yetta walked over to Carman, Cherry sluggishly following behind.
"What's going down here?" she whispered.
"We all have different reactions to Cayde being back. Some of us are more angry than others." Yetta huffed at the answer, tying her hair away from her face.
"Don't we have bigger things to worry about? Like, I don't know. The Witness or whoever?" Yetta snarked. Carman chuckled.
"Let them deal it out. Crow's back, by the way. He's getting breakfast. Go hang out with him today. Scout around. You've earned the break."
"Carman-"
"You have been fighting nonstop. Take the break. Before you snap." Carman patted her shoulder, walking away. Yetta's mouth twisted, bitterly, but Jason nudged her shoulder.
"You're exhausted, Yetta. Listen to Carman for once, take the break."
"I'm not-"
"Yes you are. The stress has been keeping you awake for days, you have dark circles under your eyes, and you have moments that you start swaying. If you go out with Carman, I, personally, am not going with you."
Yetta sighed heavily. She knew Jason was right, of course. The world had moments that it blurred, and she had a massive migraine from the constant revivals and the constant stress. "Fine. I'll stay behind."
. . .
She collapsed next to Crow, the other hunter running his fingers through her hair. Yetta leaned her head into his thigh, sighing softly. "Surprised you're not going with Carman."
"Migraines from the constant reviving is keeping me back," she explained. "Carman wants me to take a break from the missions."
"Sounds like a good idea. Jason can't help the migraine?"
Jason, upon hearing his name, spun into the air. "I can, but it won't stick for very long. She's also sleep deprived, and swaying around and I wouldn't trust her aim right now."
His guardian groaned, swatting him away gently. Crow checked his pistol. "What's Carman allowing her to do?" he asked, brow raising.
"Patrols, mostly." Yetta scooped up some porridge as she answered. "And rest. So, basically nothing."
"Well…maybe nothing is what you need for right now. Your eyes look really unfocused, and you're sweating. Don't know if you've exactly noticed, but it's pretty comfortable out."
"Haven't noticed," she sighed. Crow chuckled, escorting her back to her tent. Or so she thought. When they walked past it, she turned her head, a questioning mumble falling from her lips.
"You'll see," he promised. She nodded, placing her trust in him. It turned out, they were approaching his tent.
. . .
Her eyes had fluttered open to see Crow, checking something on his data pad. She shifted, eyes squeezing shut against the harsh light. A hand settled on her shoulder, gentle, but heavy enough to be of comfort. "Feeling any better?" she heard Crow ask.
Sighing softly, Yetta mumbles that she's thirsty. Her head is still pounding. Dizzyingly, her head is lifted up, and the cool metal of a flash is pressed to her lips. Water pooled at her mouth, and she opened, accepting the drink gratefully. "What time is it?" she asked groggily.
"Almost night time. You slept all day." He capped the flask shut, setting it to the side. "They're getting dinner ready. Want me to get you some?" Yetta sits up, ignoring the dull ache in her head.
"I'll go," she promised. "I probably need to get up anyways." Pushing herself up proved to be a little difficult, but warmth spread over her, Jason's light chasing away the last of her migraine.
Soft laughter greeted her ears as she pushed open the flaps of her tent, the firelight coating the surrounding ground in a warm, golden glow. Carman perked up. "There she is!" she called out. Yetta looked around at the gathered group. Ikora, Cayde, Carman, and now Zavala, who looked more tired than usual. Carman scooted over, patting the seat beside her. "Come, sit and eat."
Trudging over, Yetta grabbed a bowl of beans, plopping next to her mentor. "When did the commander get here?"
"Earlier today." Carman set aside her bowl. "I need to talk to you about something."
Perking up, Yetta scooped some dinner into her mouth. "What's up?" she asked around her mouthful. Carman scoffed softly, clearing her throat.
"Are you having the night terrors, again?" Yetta froze, then shrugged. "Don't try to play it off. Crow heard you."
Yetta slid her eyes over to Crow. "He heard me?"
"He was very concerned. So, let's try this again. Are you having the night terrors?" She was gentle in her words this time. "What's happening in them?"
"Just the usual. White rooms, bodies on the walls, the screams of the damned. A chainsaw somewhere down the hall. Blood." Yetta shrugged, massaging the dent in her shoulder as it ached . Jason had never been able to properly get it mended all the way. Something about Vex tech interfering with the injury. "Nothing too major."
"I really wish you wouldn't talk about what happened like that," Carman gently scolded. "Does Crow know?"
"No. I don't think it was so bad that it needs to be brought up, that's all."
"You almost *died*, permanently. Your arm was hanging by a mere *thread* when you came back. It was, in fact, that bad."
"So? I'm fine now, aren't I?"
"Are you?" Carman stood up, patting Yetta's shoulder as she vanished back into her tent.
