Chapter 4: The Bloodline's Secrets
Freya's POV
My muscles burned, a searing, unrelenting anguish. I was panting heavily as I tried to keep up with Kade's fighters. They were all powerful and fierce, following my every move with keen eyes. They were pushing me to the maximum and challenging me. I wasn't going to give up, though.
"Freya, is that all you have?" One of them circled me with a smug smile, taunting me.
I tightened my jaw. "You'll see what I have."
I rushed forward, thwarting his attack and retaining my position as my heart raced. Even though the exercise was harsh, I experienced an unfamiliar strength and vitality that I had never felt before. Something strong and untamed seemed to be waking up deep inside of me.
Crossing his arms and keeping his gaze fixed, Kade observed from the sidelines of the training arena. "Well done, Freya," he yelled. But keep in mind that control is crucial. It is perilous to have power without control.
As I got ready for the following round, I nodded and tried to control my breathing. Command. That's what I found difficult. It appears this new strength had a mind of its own and was unpredictable.
I was training alone in the forest the following day when an odd incident occurred. I was swinging and dodging as I practised my manoeuvres. The next, I was standing in an open, black field as everything around me vanished. The ground was coated in a low, unsettling mist, and the air seemed frigid.
A shadow appeared in the distance, a big, strong figure that made my spine tingle. Although it had the appearance of a wolf, it was not like any wolf I had ever seen. Its fur was as dark as midnight, and its eyes radiated a rich gold. The thing observed me with a knowing, piercing gaze that seemed to be able to penetrate right into my soul.
"Who are you?" My voice was almost heard as I whispered.
The wolf remained silent. It just stared, and I sensed an odd bond between us as if there were some ancient, potent force connecting us. My heart was racing, but before I could move closer, the vision vanished, and I found myself back in the jungle with shaking hands.
"What was that, exactly?" I said as I glanced around bewildered.
I couldn't get rid of the impression that the wolf was related to me, even if I didn't understand the meaning of the vision. It seemed to have finally responded to the call that a part of me had been making.
I felt the energy surge in me later that day while I was sparring with one of Kade's warriors once more. This time, it was more intense and throbbed like fire through my veins. I surprised my opponent by swinging out with stronger and quicker movements than before.
"Whoa, where did that come from?" he staggered back and requested.
I had no opportunity to respond. I was unable to control the force inside of me, which was expanding and intensifying like a storm. I attempted to recover control by pulling it back, but it was too late. My opponent was knocked off his feet by the forceful wave of energy that erupted from me, sending a shockwave across the clearing.
Everyone in the vicinity halted and gazed in disbelief. Even Kade's normally composed countenance changed to one that was more akin to surprise.
"What happened just now?" Feeling the weight of the power I had let go of, I gasped.
Kade's eyes furrowed as he walked slowly toward me. As if he couldn't believe it himself, he whispered, "Freya, that… that was incredible." "I was aware of your power, but this is something else entirely."
In an attempt to comprehend what he was saying, I drew a trembling breath. "I don't comprehend. Why is this taking place?
His eyes were focused as he put a hand on my shoulder. "Because your lineage is not typical, Freya. Your lineage is more influential than Finnick's family could ever hope to be.
My thoughts were racing as Kade and I sat by the fire the following evening. Even though he hadn't told me anything yet, I could tell he was keeping something significant from me. At last, I was unable to contain my queries any longer.
I broke the quiet by saying, "Kade." "Don't you know something about my family? About the source of this ability.
Kade's countenance was contemplative as he gazed into the flames. Indeed, Freya. The truth is something you deserve to know. But be aware that what I'm going to tell you may not be easy to hear.
I nodded and braced myself. "I'm prepared."
Before he spoke, he inhaled deeply. Freya, you're descended from a legendary family. A line with powers that no other line has. However, this ability has been concealed for many generations, particularly from Finnick's pack. They were afraid of what it might signify.
"Did you see me?" I muttered as I tried to comprehend what he had said.
He gave a nod. Indeed. Although Finnick's family has always been powerful, they are aware of the reality that your family's lineage has the potential to be just as powerful as theirs. That is the reason they wished to keep you helpless, hidden, and away from the truth.
A wave of rage and betrayal washed over me. I had felt like an outcast and a burden to the pack for all those years. However, it was due to their decision to conceal this information from me.
"So they knew all along?" My voice trembled as I asked.
"Yes," Kade replied, maintaining a steady gaze. "They were aware. To ensure that you would never reach your full potential, they sought to keep your power stifled.
The hurt and treachery swirled inside me as I clenched my hands. Why would they act in that way? How come they wouldn't inform me?
"Because your power threatens theirs, Freya," Kade said quietly. They were worried that you would be able to challenge them and possibly replace them if you got stronger.
As the reality set in, I felt a peculiar mix of rage and resolve. I was a part of something strong that they had attempted to bury, not simply some orphan or misfit.
"Now what?" Despite my beating heart, I asked in a steady voice.
In the firelight, Kade's eyes shone brightly. "You accept who you are now, Freya. You regain the power that has been denied to you, you get stronger, and you train.
I felt the weight of his words as I gazed into the fire. Although I had no idea what was ahead, I was certain that I had changed from the helpless, forgotten child they had rejected. They would never be able to control me because I was something more.
And I experienced hope for the first time. This was my opportunity to take charge of my destiny and at last, become the person I was destined to be.
