Leah's POV
At that moment, words became scarce for me to say, and I was looking at him, opening my mouth to speak, but unable to voice anything.
"I… It was…"
"I know you wouldn't want Amon to come near you." He shrugged, waving the impending doom I was expecting off the table.
"No… I wouldn't."
Cold shivers had gone through my spine. His shrugging his question off was raising concerns to me. He was supposed to suspect something about me, but he was making me look like an angel of light who always did the right thing.
That night he met me outside, and also noticed my panties were pulled below my waist, it was normal for him to probe, but he hadn't.
I was relieved that he hadn't, but it gave me a strange feeling.
"There's no way anyone would think you might consider spending a slight moment with Amon after what he's done to you." He winked at me.
His gestures… They keep screaming that there was more to his silence. But silent about what exactly? Oh… My brain was messing with me.
But I got the feeling that he was acting on my emotions, and at the same time, making me feel guilty with a creepy way of making me feel he knew nothing.
I got back to the bed to sit, rubbing my palms together. My legs had turned weak, and sweats had formed on my forehead, extending to my face.
"Are you okay?" He touched me.
I jolted, moving my hands away. My mind was messed up, and it was causing my heart rate to flare up. Nothing had actually happened, but I was feeling it had.
"We both are not happy with Amon, and we have different cases with him. I'm sorry he pushed you so hard," he said, holding me tightly to himself.
But what if he was messing with me? What if he knew I was pregnant, but was playing a game with me? If he was, why would he indulge himself in such stress?
He didn't look stressed by anything.
"How long have you known about the relationship I had with him?" I narrowed my eyes at him, inspecting his reaction.
My doubts were already going beyond the limits I could contain.
"And is that supposed to be a secret?"
Oh… I didn't think of it in that manner because I had intended for it to be a secret, a secret that was only known by Andrea, Cristine, and me.
"You didn't tell me you knew, and haven't talked about it…" I said.
"Because it's not something to talk about."
He made sense, it wasn't something he had to discuss with me unless he felt like, and he could have been trying not to dig deep into my past of just a month ago.
That was not a fact I could trust. The guilt of trying to pin a pregnancy on him must have been the problem with me. It wasn't something I would have done if everything was the normal way I had planned them to be.
Amon claiming he'd got a mate, and then becoming pregnant for him had caused the change in me. Or maybe I shouldn't have agreed to the mate bond between Gerald and me.
"Gerald…" I stood up to leave. "I have to leave now."
"Cristine has a strong hold on you," he said.
Again, I stopped. How did he know I was going out with Cristine? No, he didn't say that, but he was suggesting he knew I had something to do with her.
Opening the door, I gave deaf ears to what he said to prevent starting another conversation that could lead into something else. My going out with Cristine was important. He hadn't told me anything about himself, just about his parents being gone.
"Cristine!" I knocked at the door to Cristine's home.
She didn't open, and I had to knock on it a few more times.
"You should open the door!" I banged the door with my fists.
Perhaps the noise the door created could wake her up from that deep sleep she must have been having. Yet, there was no answer. I would have decided she wasn't in, but her shoes were on the doormat. Opposite the door, just a few steps away, a few of her clothes were hung on a rope.
She must be inside.
"Leah." I heard her sister's voice.
I turned to look at her. "Kate?"
She had a bag hung on her shoulders, hinting that she was coming from one of the pack's lesson halls.
She jumped on me, hugging me tightly. "I haven't seen you for a while! Thought you've left the pack for good…"
"Why would I?
"You've been scarce… Oh… The door is locked…"
"Do you have the keys? I asked.
"I don't. We might have to wait for Cristine to finish up with one of her boyfriends. I'm so sorry about that."
One of her boyfriends? Cristine hadn't told me she had more than one lover.
We stood outside for a while, about twenty minutes or more, but Cristine was yet to open the door. She must have heard me knock, but why couldn't she hurry up with the pleasure she was having?
In the next minute, the door opened. A male wolf ran outside, hiding his face from me. Who could he be? Not that I really cared to know.
Cristine came out, having covered herself with a blanket.
"I have been waiting for you!" I gritted out.
"So so sorry…" she went back inside, gesturing for me to come in with her.
The room was rough, and I could see stains of semen on the bedsheet, sometimes on the floor, extending to the sitting room. This girl was crazy. Wasn't the room enough for them?
"I'm ready for us to go with you… Gerald wasn't giving me room for me to ask about him, and I got confused on what to ask."
She was starting to put on her clothes, letting go of the blanket, and exposing her naked body. The outer part of her pussy had become reddened. I could tell she had gone multiple rounds. I wanted to ask her who the guy was, but I decided against that.
"You should only meet up with this mage if you feel that there's a need to. Don't do it because I'm asking you to," she said.
"Of course not!"
Here came the mind game at me, asking me to do something with an uncalled effort, and then pretending to back out when I show interest.
"Let me tell you what you should know." She sat on the couch closest to the one I was sitting on.
"Okay…"
"The place he lives is actually like a town outside this pack, it's actually a school, and he might make crazy request. Are you okay with that?"
"What kind of request might he make?"
She pouted her lips, turning her head to each side like she was in deep thoughts, and snapping her fingers like she always did in such states.
"What if he asks you to pay with sex, no connection." She rolled her eyes.
"Of course I can't do such… I almost did that with…"
And then I stopped, sucking my words back in. I didn't tell her Amon showed up to me, I didn't tell her he wanted me to call off the marking process, and didn't let her know that my emotioyhad taken over me to the extent I almost got down with him.
"With who?" She wanted to probe.
"Nobody, that's not important. It was almost a sexual fling. Some months ago…"
She studied me, and nodded.
"It's not a tough thing to get down with any of the mages, and he could tell you exactly what you need to know."
There was a difference between getting down with someone whom you're emotionally connected to, and a stranger. Maybe I would have to do the mage's request. No deep feelings after all.
"And what if he knows nothing about Gerald?"
She smiled, slowly starting to laugh. "He doesn't walk based on investigation, but through his whole magic stuff of prying into people's life."
Just then, my eyes caught sight of a picture that was hung on the fall opposite to the door. I hadn't seen the picture all through the times I had visited. It was something new.
"Whose picture is that?"
She quickly took it off the wall, and it didn't make sense to me.
"Do you really need to put it down?"
But she did not respond. She pressed it against her belly, covering it in such a way I could no longer see the face on it. Her face had become pale, and she was standing on same spot, her fingers starting to shake.
"Cristine… You aren't okay… What is it with the picture?"
She went into the room, but I managed to get another glimpse of it. The face looked familiar, like someone I'd seen, but I couldn't figure out the person.
"Cristine?" I called out to her, but didn't try to go into the room.
Soon, she came out of the room, and I noticed her eyes were wet.
"What about the picture? You were sobbing…"
"The picture isn't important."
