With a clean cut, the rope that was holding the last woman was severed. Finally, all the victims were freed.
Naomi jumped out of the empty cage.
The victims, now free, relished their newly acquired freedom, but kept their distance from the scattered bodies. Some children stared at the corpses, full of fear.
"It will be alright now!" Naomi said to the group, who kept their eyes fixed on her.
Naomi had heard the sound of a shot not long ago, so she knew Gabriel was okay and would arrive soon. She was counting on it, as she was never very good with crowds.
"Ma'am!" called a boy of just over seven years old. "When can we go home?"
"Soon, soon. We're just waiting for my partner to come back."
"Do you think he's alright?" asked a young woman among the group of women, who, noticing Naomi's gaze on her, shrank back.
Before the assassin could answer, the sound of someone emerging from the vegetation made her turn. It was Gabriel, completely soaked.
"Have a little faith in me!" the young man replied, smiling.
The astonishment was clear in the crowd, as everyone had thought Gabriel had sacrificed himself for them. With a bear like that, Naomi couldn't disagree with the people's disbelief.
"Who are you?" the boy asked, his eyes wide.
"I thought it was obvious!" Gabriel said, looking at Naomi. "We're Ravens."
