Chapter 8 - Chase is Dead!

"I was expecting you so I prepared as well." Madeline speaks to Arnold in the dark. "You thought I'll be dumb enough to let you just enter my room, or allow you to easily pass through by guards? I've been preparing for this, some time now." she adds and presses the button again. The lights on.

Arnold realizes he is surrounded by Madeline's guards, and all of them are pointing guns at him.

"Welcome Big Brother!" Madeline officially welcomes him. He looks around him analyzing the rifles her guards were holding.

"Seems you've grown brave since we last met." Arnold compliments.

"You can say that again." Madeline replies. "I saw the cams and drones about a week ago. You predicted I'll decline and I did so. I started preparing for you and was ready, every single moment. I wasn't expecting you to come this late." she adds and signals the guards to drop their guns. Arnold scorns at her.

"Save your joy. You'll be begging for mercy from me soon." Arnold tells her. She gets slightly annoyed and signals one of her guards to hit Arnold. He is forced to kneel before Madeline.

"Now who's going to be begging for mercy?" Madeline asks. She signals again and the guard hits Arnold's head. He spits blood and coughs.

"You'll pay for this!" Arnold says angrily as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand but Madeline laughs at him.

"How? You are going to die, right here and right now. Nobody will know, and your body won't be found." she tells him and then thinks of something.

"I've missed seeing people in pain. Beat him up." she says and turns to go and sit on a chair that wasn't there earlier but hears a gun move.

When she turns, one of the guards was pointing his gun at Arnold. "Don't kill him yet, torture him a bit." she adds and proceeds to sit.

Two guards pick up Arnold and their supposed leader beat him up mercilessly, close to the point of death. She signals them to stop. They force him to kneel again and she gets up and walks over to him. When she reaches him, he falls down.

"Wake up Arnold, we are just getting started. I really wanted to watch this for long but it seems you've grown old now. Let's end this real quick." she adds and snaps her fingers, ordering them to target him again. She starts taking steps backwards.

"Good bye Arnold. I'll tell the board you are sending them goodbyes." she says on a high tone and smiles so wickedly.

The guards charge and points their guns at him. "Finish him!" she says and turns her back as she closes her eyes.

However, she doesn't hear any gunshot, instead she hears the guns move. When she opens her eyes, all the guards point their guns at her. She turns back to face Arnold who is smiling. He stands up slowly.

"I wanted to hand you over to the police, but that thought irritates my skin." Arnold says and stands up. He looks with the corners of his eyes and the guards drop their guns.

"What's going on?" Madeline asks, all shocked.

"Well, you thought all the cards were in your possession, but you didn't know, you had no cards." Arnold says and puts his hands in his pocket.

"I was right after all, you are as foolish as your guards." he insults her. "These boys are mine." he tells her and smiles as she stands there shocked.

"Let's end this real quick. It getting quite late. I believe one bullet will do the trick." he says and signals his personal bodyguard to shoot her, the same guard who beat Arnold up.

At Chase's home, we find him sitting on one of the couches with his head bent downwards. Hayley comes from behind, the bedroom's direction and sees him.

"Honey, are you okay?" Hayley asks Chase who is extremely moody as she presumed.

"I'm fine. I just need some space!" Chase replies, without raising his head.

Hayley doesn't buy it and walks up to him. She stands infront of him, raises his head and sees Chase's red eyes for the second time.

She realizes something is wrong. Before she tries to speak, he shuts her up. "Leave me!" he says with anger, but in a soft tone.

She quietly goes into the bedroom, worried.

--------------------

In the Klein's mansion, Henry is ready for bed but goes to stare at the moon outside his window.

"Chase! The Hymorra! that was the same look!" Henry thought. "What if its the same person? What if the Hymorra is Chase?" he says to himself.

"That's not possible. The Hymorra is a different breed, probably not from earth." Henry thought again.

"Or maybe, I'm just imagining things." Henry adds and then looks at his bed. He slaps himself as he realizes.

"What the hell I'm I thinking! Chase is my friend, he wouldn't want to hurt me and plus, the hymorra isn't human!" Henry says, now fully convinced and goes to bed.

*************** THE NEXT DAY **************

Hayley wakes up and doesn't find Chase on the bedroom, she fastens her nightie and gets up from bed.

"Honey!" she calls and checks in the bathroom but he isn't there. "Honey? Honey?" she calls as she went to the living room and kitchen but he wasn't there.

She goes out and knocks on Sarah's door, though she hated it so much.

"By any chance have you seen Chase this morning?" she asks.

"Why are you asking me that question, he's your husband you should know where he is not me. And if I knew the answer I wouldn't tell you for free, I'll...." Sarah replies but gets interrupted by Hayley.

"Thanks!" Hayley says and leaves, leaving Sarah dumbstruck. She slams the door and goes back inside.

Hayley gets back inside and picks up her phone, she dials his number but hears his phone ringing. She traces the sound and finds it in the kitchen sink.

***************

She dials Henry's number with Chase's phone.

"So you finally had the guts to call me. I thought you were damn mad." Henry speaks when he answers the call in his room, just after dressing.

"Henry, this Hayley!" she speaks.

"Damn! what did I say?" he thought. "Yes! Hayley, what's up?" he replies.

"Is Chase at your place by any chance?" she asks.

"No! He isn't at home?" Henry replies.

"I just woke up and I can't find him. He's phone is also here."

"Yeah! That's what you are speaking with." Henry tells her.

"Oh yeah!" Hayley answers, confused.

"I'll call the company and find out." Henry adds.

"Thanks." Hayley replies.

Henry is surprised how come Chase is not at home.

***************

Hayley calls Britney next, and tells her what's going on, ending with...

"I've been searching since!" she narrates as tears try to call down from her eyes.

"I'm coming over girl!" Brit says and hangs up.

--------------------

Henry calls his company.

"He hasn't reported to work Sir!" one of Henry's employees tells him.

"Okay! If you see any sign of him, tell me immediately!" Henry says and hangs up.

"Where the hell are you Chase!" Henry yells in his mind and rushes out to search for Chase.

He rushes downstairs in a hurry and almost hit one of the maids.

"Where are you in a hurry to?" his mum asks him from the dining table, as she takes her breakfast, seeing him rushing.

"Hayley hasn't seen Chase since morning and he isn't at work!" Henry replies still heading out.

"At least have some breakfast first!" his mum yells but he just goes out.

He picks up one of his cars, starts and heads out, without a driver. His driver might be too slow for him.

***************

Next up, Henry is damn speeding on the road and he has no idea where he is heading to. He's just accelerating very fast.

"Come on Chase! Where are you!" he yells feeling sorry for himself. He feels he is the cause of everything. He clearly remembers Chase's reaction to his decision yesterday, how he was angry at him. And now, he can't he be found.

--------------------

"Calm down Hayley." Britney tries cooling Hayley down who is flooding the living room with tears since Britney arrived.

"I can't calm down Brit!!" Hayley yells at her. Britney is taken aback.

"So that's how it feels like to lose your husband. Thank goodness I'm single." Britney says softly under her breath but unfortunately, Hayley hears her.

"Did you just say lose?" Hayley asks, as anger stirs up slowly inside her.

"No, I said... miss!" Britney stammers. Hayley takes it and resumes crying.

--------------------

Back at the capital, we see a familiar car on the road, Arnold's.

"Was it appropriate for us to hand her over to the police?" Arnold's personal bodyguard asks him, feeling uneasy about it.

"No! It's no where close to being appropriate." Arnold replies. "But she's never going to come out. I've sent her the face she thought she saw earlier, Omar!" he adds.

"You mean your assassin?" the guard asks.

"Yes, they are old time friends, he betrayed me yesterday so I'll let them die together." Arnold answers.

"I pulled some strings to make sure they'll end up in the same cell for about 24 hours. During this period, Omar will remember what I told him Madeline did to his family when ever he looks at her. He'll get angry and angry the more he sees her face, until he goes out of control.

At this stage, he'll by all means kill her, strangling her to death, probably. He'll obviously be caught by the police as Madeline will yell for help at the beginning. As she dies, the police will catch him red-handed. The case will then be sent to court.

A mere prisoner, killing a public figure like Madeline is a heinous crime infront of the corrupt proposed judges. He'll by all means be sentenced to life imprisonment but that it self will be mercy, so one of the judges will propose he be sentenced to death. Omar will be killed as well, and he will meet Madeline in hell."

Arnold tells his bodyguard his plan as everything comes into motion, just as Arnold says. The guard is startled.

"But why would Omar kill her. What could you have probably told him?" the guard further asks.

"About two years ago, his wife and daughter were killed right before his eyes. The scene hunted him since then and the thought of it makes him go wild. That's what I've been using as fuel to drive him to kill.

I give him a list of all the people I want dead and tell him those were his family murderers. And so, he does his work diligently, ignorant about the fact that the true murderers of his family is still alive."

Arnold says again as he reflects what happened.

"So why don't you just tell him the real murderers?" the guard questions again.

"He's probably dead already. I'm still fascinated how he had no idea who killed his family!" Arnold replies.

"Who was it?" the guard asks with curiosity.

"Who else will it be?" Arnold responds and turns to look at the guard. "You!" he says.

"Me?" the guard replies, surprised.

"You won't remember, I erased that memory." Arnold says.

"Before you became my personal guard, you were one of my picks for an assassin. I entrusted you with a mission to kill a reporter and her family who were speaking ill of me. They wanted to ruin my public figure. And that was Omar's wife. By then, he didn't know me.

You were successful with his wife and 5-year old daughter but failed with Omar. I still don't know why you didn't kill him."

"So I ask you again, Why didn't you kill Omar, Tyler?" Arnold asks his bodyguard with a deadly look on his face.

--------------------

At around 2:00pm, they still haven't gotten any news from Chase. Hayley hasn't eaten since morning and has just been crying. Britney has been with her since.

She told Miss Cranes that Chase is dead that's why they haven't been able to come to work. Fortunately, she bought the lie.

Henry has roamed the whole city but hasn't seen any trace of him. His mother is worried as he hasn't eaten anything since morning.

Everyone at work is a bit worried. Though Chase is a bit troublesome, they a still missing his absence and with the news he can't be found, it's even more lonely.

As for Ryan, well, we have no news from him.

**************

At 3:00pm, they hear a knock on the door. It's obviously Henry, returning to meet Hayley. Britney goes and opens the door but who she sees made her scream loud.

"Ghost!!!" she yells and runs inside. Hayley runs to the door and sees Chase.

"Chase!" she runs and hugs him. He drops the polythene bag that was in his hand.
