Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Dark secrets

Shentu Mingye noticed how well trained this servant boy was. His brother must have picked all his servants, maids and security guards from a famous school that teaches people how to serve rich people like kings and queens.

"I have something to buy first. I'll be back soon," he said to Jiang Zhaoling.

"Okay!" Jiang Zhaoling was too excited so she didn't suspect anything.

Shentu Mingye went to the garage and took his second brother's Harley Davidson.

Then he sped off to Changchun district.

Along the way, his head was bustling with thoughts.

Shentu Jing can't possibly stay a single man forever. He needed to have an heir and a wife to continue the family line and to inherit the properties. Shentu Dong was also pushing all his sons to have children so that he could have a cute grandson or granddaughter. That shit father must have some ulterior motives for that!

So how did Shentu Jing suddenly come back with a fiancée? He hoped it wasn't a gold-digger his brother brought back.

And it must not be Shentu Chu to inherit the main properties and business because of suspicion around both father and son.

Shentu Mingye knew that he wasn't supposed to return to the country.

This was the reason why Shentu Mingye decided to come over for a visit.

He wanted to turn the tides in the Shentu family!

His cousin sister just tagged along because she was crazy to see Shentu Jing. Jiang Zhaoling didn't know of the Shentu family conspiracy. She was too young and naïve so he decided to keep the dumb cousin sister out of the darkness.

Yes, the Shentu family had their own dark secrets and Shentu Mingye didn't want anyone who wasn't surnamed Shentu to get pulled into it.

She shouldn't get involved, he thought. Though he knew how angry she would be when she finds out about it, he'll try his best to conceal it as long as possible.

The dark secrets in the Shentu family run deep and are more than just the conspiracy between Shentu Dong and the mysterious birth of his son Shentu Chu and Shentu Jing. Back then, Shentu Dong was known as an infamous playboy who liked to play around with women. So who knows which one of his sons is the legitimate or illegitimate child? His first wife died in childbirth so where did Shentu Chu come from? Shentu Dong always avoided answering questions about the birth of Shentu Chu.

Shentu Mingye knew something was going to happen and it was only a matter of time.

Meanwhile, Jiang Zhaoling went downstairs to admire her cousin's decorations and furnishings. Shentu Jing had a liking for antique and vintage stuff so naturally Shentu Dong allowed him to decorate the mansion as he liked. It didn't look old at all but it was very stylish and comfortable.

From a young age, her cousin was quite a possessive man, collecting limited edition items such as T-shirts, mugs and paintings. One painting in this mansion was definitely worth millions, there was no doubt. It was a good relief that her cousin wasn't possessive or obsessed with a woman. That innocent woman will have a hard time because her cousin was sure going to bother and try his best to claim that woman, every inch of her.

Jiang Zhaoling was about to head back upstairs to unpack her luggage when he heard something rustling behind her. It definitely wasn't one of the servants or maids. It came from her cousin's room. What the hell was that?

Jiang Zhaoling grabbed whatever she could find that looked like a stick and enough for beating the hell out of someone, a vase. She hoped she wouldn't have to use it or else she would have to face her cousin's wrath. And trust her, facing Shentu Jing's wrath was something not on her to-do list.

Jiang Zhaoling approached the room, thinking that if this was one of the cleaners or servants, they would have to be fired for snooping around at places they shouldn't have been. She knew her cousin never let anyone in apart from his trusted peers.

She took slow steps trying hard to avoid the wooden floor from creaking.

She pushed open the door and yelled, "Ah ha!" She shouted with the vase raised above her head like a baseball bat.

She was so bent on catching the thief red-handed that she tripped over a paperweight on the floor and almost suffered humiliation herself. But she managed to regain her footing.

Instead of acting surprised or caught in an act, the 'thief' looked at her lazily.

"Oh it's you, Miss Jiang. How are you?" His eyes casually scanned the girl as he said those words so casually that it made Jiang Zhaoling seem like she overreacted. He was seated in Shentu Jing's chair with one leg over the other. He had a bored expression as he fiddled with a ballpoint pen.

"Oh, it's my cousin's uncle! How are you doing after all these years, Master Hu? I didn't know you were here. I thought it was some thief snooping through my dearest cousin's belongings," Jiang Zhaoling put the vase down and exclaimed exaggeratedly.

She went forward to hug Shentu Hu pretending to play the part of a caring host. She approached him with a wide grin and arms wide open ready to envelope Shentu Hu into a big bear hug. But the latter stood up and brushed past her, obviously avoiding the near hug.

"I was looking for Jing erye. Since he's not in, I'll leave first," Shentu Hu said as he left before that crazy sweet girl could try to assault him with hugs. She had no shame!

Jiang Zhaoling sighed when she realized that Shentu Hu had run off leaving her alone in the room.

She looked around the room and found it highly suspicious. What would Shentu Hu be doing in Shentu Jing's home office at this time of the day? And why would a paperweight that was supposed to be on her cousin's table be doing on the floor?
