Chapter 2 - Death

Inside Sefirah Castle, Atlas regained all of his memories including those of the novel. He was now extremely certain that his amnesia was a form of self protection.

Atlas realised his connection to the River of Eternal Darkness was almost similar to Sefirah Castle. But, Atlas felt like beating the person who transmigrated him here. Unlike Klein who could use Sefirah Castle as a cheat, he almost died from it!

Atlas bitterly smiled before standing up and bowing before "Great Existence", great existence in scamming that is.

"Honourable Mr. Fool, thank you for your intervention"

If it weren't for Klein intervening, him being insane would be the best outcome, the worst would be him turning into a monster and slaughtering everyone.

Thinking about his butler, Atlas had a small smile on his face. He could feel the butler genuinely loved him no matter what he would. The loyalty emanating from him, almost made Atlas shed a tear.

Most butler's would try to scam new and gullible heirs and try to rob them. But his memories indicated that his butler did no such thing. He instead helped him fire those shark employees and taught him a lot in finance.

Atlas's butler was a family butler, whose father and grandfather served their family. The best thing about him was that when Atlas first ascended the throne, his butler refused his wages; Atlas almost had to beg to finally make him accept it.

Atlas then broke off his thoughts, he focused his attention towards Klein, pondering what actions the "scammer god" would take.

Klein ignored Atlas's gratitude as if to say 'This is a trivial matter for me'. He then asked in a mysterious voice: "How do you know my name?"

At this point, even Klein was confused; he had only created his name a few days ago but somehow this young man discovered it. Klein was puzzled on how this child knew his name, he looked no younger than twenty indicating that he wasn't an old monster. Klein was perplexed by his knowledge!

Atlas had already thought of an answer to this question: "Honourable Existence above the grey fog, your honorific name was passed down in my family. My family's ancestor once made a prophecy that an otherworldly existence would cross over who would bring the family back to glory. His prophecy also dictated that one of his descendants would guide this trapped existence, and ascend with him!. He never told us when we had to recite his name only that fate would guide us"

He then paused to take his breath before continuing

"Generations of our family have tried your honorific name; but to no avail. Today, I was starting to lose control, I tried all the God's that existed but they did not care for my existence. So, I decided to use your name in hopes of relief"

Klein was stumped by this answer; he came up with several conclusions which held no validity. He wondered who predicted his arrival: was it a god or a transmigrator like him.

Klein was silent for a few minutes. He wanted to know more about this ancestor and decided that the best way to do so was to invite him to the Tarot Gathering.

"There are two others like you, they conduct regular gatherings for formula trading, material sales, information exchange and task commissions."

Klein took a pause seemingly to draw attention then continued

"I'm a Fool who likes equivalent exchange. You can your mysticism knowledge to trade with me or others"

"So, do you accept"

Atlas bowed: "It is my honour!"

Klein the added: "Every Monday at three in the afternoon, free from interference"

He silently thought for a bit before adding: "They decided to use Tarot Cards for their code names. You should choose one"

A set of Tarot Cards appeared before Atlas, outwardly he maintained a posture of reverence, respect and gratitude, inwardly however he was excited to the core.

Although the Tarot Club was weak in the beginning, it would grow to become a powerhouse that would have access to different channels and resources.

"Let fate choose for me" Atlas whispered in his mind. He picked a seemingly ordinary card from the scattered cards. He drew

"Death"

The seemingly ordinary card turned out to be terrifying. Atlas who had once been crazed with tarot cards knew 'Death' was a misunderstood card. It actually represents the end of a significant phase in life and the opportunity to let go of the past and make room for something new.

The symbol on Atlas's chair activated. A skull started manifesting with feathers pointing outward, depicting the endpoint of all fate and the bearing of new life.

The Fool soon announced "You are Death". "Remember the meeting time, You may go back"

After sending Atlas back, Klein did not immediately go back. He instead performed a dream divination to see if 'Death' was friendly.

The divination results were unexpected to say the least; it revealed that 'Death' would help him in a lot of ways, ways he wasn't able to divine yet.

…..

Atlas woke up and found himself in a contorted position. His body was covered with sweat and his pajamas were soaked.

He was grateful to Klein for saving him and decided to repay his favour. Today was Monday and so he would have to attend the Tarot Club for the first time.

Atlas was excited at the prospect of this. He had a sneaking suspicion, his madness was due to a curse. A curse originating from his bloodline; this theory came from the fact that he had not consumed a potion, he didn't interact with any sealed artifact nor an evil god and finally he did not think he was born a half-beyonder.
