Chapter 3: Bonds and Burdens
Nathan's life at the Azure Orphanage continued to blend the mundane with the extraordinary. On the surface, he was just another child helping around the house, but beneath the surface, his connection with nature and his burgeoning abilities grew stronger each day. Despite the peace of Warden's Hollow, Nathan couldn't shake the memories of the grasslands filled with monsters or the glowing light that had led him to safety. A sense of purpose lingered in his heart, though he wasn't entirely sure what it meant.

Morning on the Plains
The sun had barely risen when Clara asked Nathan to fetch water from the nearby creek. Armed with a pair of buckets and the advice to stay on the path, he set off, savoring the crisp morning air.
As he walked, Nathan marveled at the beauty around him. The trees swayed gently in the breeze, their leaves shimmering with dew, while birds sang cheerfully in the distance. The creek's babbling grew louder as he approached, and its calming presence made him feel more at home in this strange world.
Kneeling by the water's edge, he splashed his face and let the coolness refresh him. As his fingers brushed the surface, a familiar warmth stirred within him—the Blessings of Nature.

Nathan had spent days tending to the garden, caring for the plants, and offering quiet gratitude to nature. With a rush of anticipation, he chose "Yes."
Skill Unlocked: Nature's Whisper
You can now hear the voices of plants and animals.
Nathan closed his eyes, unsure what to expect. At first, there was nothing but silence, but then, faint whispers filled his mind.
"The water is clear today," murmured the creek, its voice soothing and rhythmic.
"Good morning, human," a squirrel chattered cheerfully from a nearby tree.
Nathan's heart raced. "You can talk?"
"Well, now that you're listening, yes," the squirrel replied, its tone playful. "You're not like the others."
Nathan smiled in disbelief. He wasn't just a visitor in this world—he was connected to it in ways he had never imagined.

A Quiet Bond
On his way back to the orphanage, Nathan encountered Scarlet sitting beneath the old oak tree. She often spent time here, either reading or simply gazing into the distance.
"Hey," she greeted as he approached.
"Morning," Nathan replied, setting down the buckets. "You're up early."
She shrugged, her red hair catching the sunlight. "Couldn't sleep. Thought I'd come here for some peace."
Nathan sat beside her, the earthy scent of the tree grounding him. Scarlet remained quiet for a while, her gaze distant.
"Do you ever feel like... there's something more out there?" she asked suddenly.
Nathan glanced at her. "More?"
"Yeah. Like, beyond this village. Beyond the orphanage." She hugged her knees to her chest. "I love Clara and Robert, and the kids here are great, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to see the world."
Nathan's heart stirred. He understood that longing all too well. In his previous life, he had been content with the simplicity of farm life, but there had always been a part of him yearning for something greater. Now, in this new world, that feeling was even stronger.
"I think there is more," Nathan said finally. "And I think we'll see it one day."
Scarlet smiled faintly. "I hope so."

A Song in the Village
Later that day, Nathan noticed Scarlet lingering near the small upright piano in the orphanage's common room. The instrument was old and slightly out of tune, but Scarlet seemed drawn to it.
"Do you play?" Nathan asked, leaning against the doorway.
Scarlet shook her head. "Not really. But I love music. It's comforting."
Nathan hesitated. Back on Earth, he had taught himself to play a little guitar and piano during quiet nights on the farm. It was a simple hobby, but it had brought him peace.
"Want me to show you something?" he offered.
Scarlet blinked in surprise but nodded. "You can play?"
"A little," Nathan said modestly. He sat at the piano and tested a few keys, wincing at the slightly off notes. Despite the imperfections, he began to play a simple melody he remembered from his past life.
The children in the room fell silent as the music filled the air. Scarlet watched him intently, her green eyes wide.
When he finished, she clapped softly. "That was beautiful. What was it?"
Nathan hesitated. "Just something I learned a long time ago."
"Will you teach me?" she asked eagerly.
Her enthusiasm surprised him, and he nodded. "Sure. It's not too hard."
Over the next few days, they spent hours at the piano, Nathan teaching Scarlet simple songs. Her determination and focus impressed him, and he found himself enjoying their lessons more than he expected.

A Light in the Darkness
One evening, as the children prepared for bed, Nathan noticed a faint glow outside the orphanage. Curiosity tugged at him, and he slipped out the back door, following the light.
It led him to the garden, where the plants shimmered faintly under the moonlight. The same guiding light from his first night at the orphanage hovered near the old oak tree.
"What are you?" Nathan whispered, stepping closer.
The light pulsed gently, as if in response.
"Are you... part of the Blessings of Nature?"
The light did not speak, but Nathan felt a wave of reassurance wash over him, as if the light was affirming that he was on the right path.
He reached out, his fingers brushing the glow. For a moment, a deep sense of connection surged through him—a link to something vast, ancient, and full of power.
System Notification:
Blessings of Nature leveled up.
New abilities unlocked.
Nathan's breath caught as he felt his powers grow. He had never felt more alive, more connected to the world around him.
"Thank you," he whispered, bowing his head in gratitude.
The light faded, but Nathan did not feel alone. A sense of purpose pulsed within him, stronger than ever before.

Promises to Keep
The next morning, Nathan joined Clara in the kitchen. She was kneading dough, her hands working rhythmically as she hummed a tune.
"Clara," Nathan began hesitantly, "do you think there's a way to earn some extra money for the orphanage?"
Clara looked up, surprised. "Why do you ask?"
"I just... I want to help," Nathan said. "You and Robert do so much for us. I want to give something back."
Clara smiled warmly. "That's very kind of you, Nathan. But we'll manage. We always do."
Nathan wasn't satisfied with that answer. He knew the orphanage was struggling, and he couldn't stand by and do nothing.
Later that day, he gathered Scarlet and a few of the older children.
"I have an idea," he said. "What if we performed for the village? Singing, playing music, maybe even telling stories. People might give us donations."
Scarlet's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea! We could use the piano and sing some of the songs you've been teaching me."
The others quickly agreed, their excitement infectious.
As they began planning their performance, Nathan felt a spark of hope. For the first time in this new world, he felt like he was truly making a difference.
And deep down, he knew this was just the beginning.
