"You want to ask if there are other reasons?" Alex instantly understood what Ethan wanted to express.
Ethan nodded. If Diancie was considered a full-level boss-level Pokémon, then Ethan believed that the current Pokémon of the three of them were definitely beginners. But a beginner can withstand so many attacks from another beginner of the same level. Isn't that simply illogical?
In particular, his Vulpix's follow-up Ember attacks were enhanced with the Flash Fire Ability.
"This involves the relationship of attributes. You should have noticed that Pokémon's attributes are different, just like my Diancie," Alex explained.
"The Rock and Fairy types, we've seen them on the Pokédex," Hannah replied, her big eyes blinking as she thought about Charmander.
"Yes, Diancie is Rock and Fairy, and Pokémon's attributes are classified into a total of 18 types," Alex said, pausing for a moment before laughing.
"Eighteen?" Lily, Ethan, and Hannah were all shocked.
Wow, eighteen attributes? That's a lot to handle!
"Boss, what are those eighteen types?" Ethan asked, his curiosity piqued.
Although he guessed there would be a lot of attributes—after all, Alex mentioned before that Pokémon's attributes could be understood as their elements—he didn't expect there to be as many as eighteen.
Lily and Hannah were equally curious.
"Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Ice, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Dragon, Dark, Fairy," Alex listed out the 18 Pokémon attributes clearly.
"Ghost? Are there really ghosts?"
"So there really is a dragon type?"
"What about Dark and Fairy?"
Hearing this, the reactions of Lily, Ethan, and Hannah were different, especially Hannah. Hearing there was really a dragon type, her eyes lit up with excitement.
"It's a Ghost type, not a real ghost," Alex clarified. "As for the dragon type, of course it's true. As I said before, one of Charmander's final forms has a dragon type in it. As for the Dark and Fairy types, I don't know how to describe them exactly. Someone will pick them up in the future, and you can find out more about them."
Like a teacher facing curious students, Alex answered their questions patiently. It really wasn't easy; the Trainer Beginner's Manual needed to be created.
"The reason why Vulpix's Ember didn't seem to do much damage to Charmander before was because attributes have mutual strengths and resistances," Alex continued.
Hearing this, Ethan and Lily were instantly enlightened.
"Charmander is fire-type, and fire-type Pokémon are resistant to fire-type moves, so the damage Ember can do to Charmander is naturally limited."
At this point, Alex glanced at Hannah, who was listening intently. So how unfortunate is Charmander? To be forcibly knocked out by Vulpix using Ember...
"Hey, boss, your eyes are very rude! It's so unfair to be like this! Don't underestimate my Charmander!" Hannah exclaimed, catching Alex's look.
"Mmhmm," Alex nodded in agreement, somewhat perfunctorily.
Hannah clenched her fists, feeling a surge of determination. Thirty years in the east, thirty years in the west! Wait, it doesn't have to take that long, does it?
She blinked, realizing she might be overthinking it.
"So, my Squirtle?" Lily asked, thinking of her little turtle.
"That's right, Squirtle is Water type, and Water resists Fire. At your current level, Squirtle should be the strongest among the three Pokémon," Alex explained.
"Squirtle! Squirtle!" Squirtle jumped out at just the right time to assert its presence.
Ethan: "..."
"Boss, we can't buy more than one Pokémon here, right?" Hannah suddenly asked Alex.
"Of course, but all three of you have already drawn for free. If you want to draw Pokémon next, you'll need to pay extra," Alex replied, feeling a bit bemused by Hannah's current enthusiasm.
"Money is not a problem! I'm going to draw now!" Hannah declared, waving her hand confidently. Didn't her friends know she was known as the 'RMB Warrior'?
She was short of everything except money!
Lily couldn't help but facepalm, knowing her friend's old habit had resurfaced.
"Please!" Alex handed his store manager Pokédex to Hannah, his words ringing with encouragement. After all, this girl was a big customer.
"Hmph! I'm going to draw a dragon straight out!" Hannah said, wiping her hands on her shorts with a sense of ceremony.
Once the draw was complete, she would teach that fox who bullied her Charmander a lesson! Relying on a Flash Fire Ability to be so arrogant!
Ethan touched his chin, watching Hannah about to draw a Pokémon, and fell into deep thought.
He also wanted to draw again, but his pocket money was almost gone. After all, he had borrowed some money from his cousin for Vulpix.
Cousin...
Ethan pondered how to ask his cousin to lend him more money...
"Give me a dragon system..." Hannah clicked 'go' solemnly, and shadows began to flash across the Pokédex rapidly.
Lily leaned in curiously, wondering which Pokémon Hannah might draw this time.
"Dragons are not so easy to draw," Alex observed, shaking his head at Hannah's nervousness.
For eight generations of Pokémon, dragon-type Pokémon were rare, definitely one of the attributes with the fewest Pokémon.
Soon, the shadow of Pokémon on the store manager's Pokédex began to freeze.
What would it be?
