Chapter 38 - Chapter -38 The Death Eaters have returned!

Chapter -38.

Lester approached the two Aurors stationed at the guard desk with a composed demeanor.

Today was Monday, the busiest day at the Ministry of Magic. Thus, following the throng to the guard station went unnoticed.

The guard station serves as the sole entry point into the Ministry of Magic, where two Aurors inspect visitors' wands to ensure security before granting access.

Before long, it was Lester's turn to present his wand for examination. One of the tall, slender Aurors regarded Lester, who wore a fierce expression, with a patronizing look and coldly inquired, "So, what brings you to the Ministry of Magic?"

These Aurors, hailing from pure-blood families, may lack many skills, but they excel at reading people. Despite Lester's intimidating appearance, it was evident he was not a wealthy noble, leading the two pure-blood Aurors to hold him in low regard.

"I'm just here to take care of some business at the Auror office," Lester replied in a deep voice, with a touch of sincerity in his tone.

"What's the matter, have you been wronged in the wizarding world?" The tall, slender Auror raised an eyebrow and regarded Lester with keen interest.

As the only agency in the magical realm that oversees matters like violence, Aurors possess the authority to use force against crime and also have the discretion to decide whether to intervene.

Being a pure-blood wizard himself, the tall, slender Auror is well aware of the nature of the pure-blood bureaucrats ensconced in their offices.

If a Muggle-born wizard commits an offense, they would promptly dispatch Aurors to apprehend him, and without any trial, simply toss him into Azkaban.

But if a pure-blood wizard commits a crime? Sorry, the Auror office would engage in discussions lasting up to six months before deploying Aurors.

These discussions would center around how to "swiftly" capture the criminal pure-blood, and this dialogue would continue until the criminal pure-blood paid a substantial bail to the officials at the Auror headquarters.

Then, the case would be immediately dropped, becoming unresolved.

Observing Lester's current stance, it was clear he was eager to head straight to the Ministry of Magic on Monday; what else could it signify but being wronged?

"I suggest you don't go; it would be futile, and you might even face humiliation," the tall, slender Auror kindly cautioned him, looking at the somewhat simple-looking face of the man.

If this individual became agitated and began arguing with those pure-bloods in the Auror office, it was likely that those pure-bloods could eliminate him right there in the Ministry of Magic, and no one would ever know.

Lester: "."

He regarded the still-chatting slender wizard with some irritation; although he recognized the good intentions, the Auror seemed to have a vivid imagination.

He merely wanted to find a way to reach the elevator; how did this tall, slender Auror come up with so much?

While Lester was feeling annoyed, another Auror interjected.

"What's there to discuss with a Mudblood?"

Another Auror, displaying a hint of arrogance, directly pointed at Lester and commanded, "Hurry up and hand me your wand; you can't enter the Ministry of Magic without inspection."

He was indifferent to whether Lester would be harmed by the pure-blood officials after entering; in his view, it was these lowly Mudbloods who took jobs in the magical world and forced him into the door-guarding position.

"Okay, okay, here's my wand."

Upon hearing the pure-blood's haughty remarks, Lester frowned but still handed over his wand.

The wand had been given to him by Carson, and since not every prisoner entering Azkaban could walk out alive, Carson had quite a few ownerless wands, and Lester simply grabbed one to put on display.

The slender Auror sighed in exasperation upon witnessing this; why wouldn't this guy heed advice?

"Tch," the pure-blood Auror responsible for checking the wand scoffed derisively as he took the wand from Lester.

As if handling some trash, the pure-blood Auror immediately tossed it into the wand inspection slot.

"Who knows what these Mudbloods do with their wands!" The pure-blood Auror's eyes were filled with contempt, but due to work obligations, he still directed his gaze to the display results.

Comparing with the test results, the pure-blood Auror muttered impatiently, "Ebony, snake heartstring." [Dragon]

After stating that, the pure-blood Auror looked at Lester strangely and, in a barely audible voice that Lester could still hear, remarked, "The choice of Mudbloods, to appease the noble pure-bloods, even the wand material has to be imitated."

With that, the pure-blood continued to sift through the records to check what spells had been cast with this wand.

First, a flash of green light appeared before his eyes, radiating boundless killing intent; even through the detection machine, the Auror instinctively broke out in a cold sweat.

And it didn't stop there; the display panel indicated that this wand had been used for thousands of killing curses over the past twenty years, with countless instances of the Cruciatus and killing curses.

Among them, the most distant killing curse dated back to more than a decade ago, during the time of Voldemort's upheaval.

"What the hell!" Gazing at the continuously displayed usage records on the screen, the previously arrogant Auror felt as if he had plunged into an icy abyss, his entire body chilled, and he couldn't help but shiver.

"Sir, do you have business at the Ministry of Magic?"

The faces of these pure-blood Aurors turned pale with fear as they looked at Lester, trembling and unable to articulate a complete sentence for an extended period.

It wasn't that he was overly cowardly; it was simply that Lester's identity was somewhat intimidating.

Death Eater!

Though he was young, he had also lived through the tumultuous times of Voldemort.

During that period, Voldemort, supported by old pure-blood families, claimed to want to eradicate Muggle-born wizards, but what was their true aim?

Wasn't it to suppress those emerging pure-blood nobles who had gradually gained power thanks to the backing of Muggle wizards?

His own family controlled the Ministry of Magic, which had already impacted the interests of those old pure-bloods.

Thus, under such conflicting interests, Voldemort's attitude towards these Ministry of Magic wizards was not much better than his attitude towards Muggle wizards; he would kill one if he saw one, and if he saw two, he would eliminate both.

The Death Eaters launched terror attacks on the Ministry of Magic daily, casually casting Killing Curses on the Ministry's personnel. These newly risen pure-bloods, lacking old family backgrounds, could only dare to be angry but not voice their discontent.

Until Harry Potter appeared out of nowhere and defeated Voldemort, the old pure-blood aristocrats suffered significant losses and had to pay substantial compensation after the war, allowing these emerging pure-blood families to gradually thrive.

But now, just a few years into their prosperous days, the Death Eaters have returned!
