Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: The Phantom’s Shadow

The tension in the mansion lingered long after the intruders had been subdued. Clara watched Benjamin pace the study, his expression a mixture of frustration and calculation. His hands clenched into fists at his sides, and his eyes darted to the windows as if expecting the shadows outside to move.

"Benjamin," Clara said softly, her voice cutting through the silence. "Talk to me. What's going on?"

He stopped and turned to face her, his features softening for a brief moment before the hardness returned. "It's not just a random attack. Evelyn traced the operation back to someone called The Phantom. He's been systematically dismantling powerful syndicates, and now he's targeting me."

Clara's brow furrowed. "Why you?"

Benjamin let out a bitter chuckle. "Because I'm a threat to his rise. The Phantom wants to control the underground, and anyone who stands in his way becomes a target."

Clara took a step closer, placing a hand on his arm. "We'll get through this, Benjamin. Together."

He covered her hand with his own, his grip firm but reassuring. "I won't let him touch you, Clara. No matter what it takes."

Elsewhere in the city, a dimly lit warehouse buzzed with activity. The Phantom, a tall figure cloaked in darkness, stood at the center of the room. His face remained hidden, but his presence commanded respect and fear from the men around him.

A subordinate approached cautiously, handing over a tablet with live footage from the failed attack on Benjamin's mansion.

"They were prepared," the man said, his voice trembling slightly. "Their defenses were stronger than we anticipated."

The Phantom studied the screen for a moment before speaking in a low, measured tone. "Benjamin is no ordinary adversary. He's calculating, ruthless. But he has a weakness."

The subordinate hesitated. "The woman?"

The Phantom's gloved hand tightened around the tablet. "Yes. Clara Hamilton. She's his Achilles' heel. If we exploit her, we can bring him to his knees."

The room fell silent, the weight of his words sinking into every man present.

Back at the mansion, Evelyn arrived with a folder of intelligence. She placed it on the table in front of Benjamin and Clara, her expression grim.

"The Phantom doesn't leave much of a trail," she said, flipping open the folder. "But I found records of similar attacks on other syndicates. He always starts with a probing assault, testing the defenses before launching a full-scale operation."

Benjamin scanned the documents, his mind racing. "We need to find him before he finds us."

Clara leaned over the table, her voice steady. "What about the man you captured? Did he say anything?"

Benjamin shook his head. "Nothing useful. But I have a feeling The Phantom won't stay in the shadows for long."

As they strategized late into the night, a chill ran down Clara's spine. She couldn't shake the feeling that The Phantom's gaze was already on them, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
