Chapter 2 - Stepping into my city.

I looked around the gas station for an hour to see if there was anything worth taking, but I found nothing, and I don't think I need money for food. I smiled and thought, "I will just walk the streets and pick someone to eat."

I left the gas station and began to walk, and this time, I was only walking for a few minutes when I saw the outskirts of my city. I can see many different kinds of dead; some looked normal, while others can be seen to have died in some horrible way. I even see some with them holding their heads in their hands. This will take some time to get used to, I sighed mentally. I try not to touch anyone while making my way to my home.

After what seemed to be hours, I reached my home and opened the door to see three men sitting in chairs, smoking. They looked over at me and began to laugh.

"If it isn't the punching bag, we didn't know when you would arrive. Your sister's boyfriends did a number on you. Beating you while degrading you has a man. Not that your sisters have excellent taste in men. But you're pathetic."

Another one spoke up as he gave me a snarky look.

"If it isn't the pathetic cracker, from now on, I think we should call you by what the people that killed you would address you. After all, you are pathetic, not wanting to fight back, hoping they would leave you alone. You're a coward that died like one."

The third one stood up and started to walk towards me. He had a shit-eating grin on his face as he was about to place his hand on my head to degrade me some more with his friends. I grabbed his arm, and he began to scream as he fell to his knees and looked at me in horror before fading away as his two buddies stood there frozen in fear.

"I will never be the nice and harmless James anymore. This world and the living in due time will belong to me. I will make the laws of the land."

The first one that spoke looked at the front door area and started to run towards it, but I tackled him to the ground and started to absorb him as his screams echoed in the house. Slowly fading along with him, the last one still hadn't recovered. While I began to walk towards him, this made him snap out of it.

"Wa-i-t, we can talk this out; the house is yours. I won't bother you anymore; I will leave. You won-"

Before he could finish, I grabbed him by the mouth, and he swung his arm, hitting me, but I felt nothing. I guess spirits really can't hurt one another. This worked out for me; as I finished absorbing him, the house looked less hazy, and I could see the outlines of people and hear a light voice. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but I knew who they were my family and those fuckers that tormented me.

In time, I will drag them into the land of the dead to eat them and use them for power. I will let those in the living world know that paying no heed to someone being tormented. Will breed a monster that they wish they never made.

I walk out of the house and into the next one; I want to eat and eat until I can interact with the living world how I see fit. I see a family sitting at the table. They look burnt. I do remember that ten years ago, a family died in a fire on this plot of land.

"James? Oh, my dear boy, you have died. It is sad to hear you were a good little boy. It looks like you are around seventeen now. It's a shame; come sit down and talk with us."

I struggled with what to do with this family. I remember the lady; she was kind to me and their son. I would play with him because he was my age, but we weren't that close, as even back then, I was a loner and liked to be by myself. I breathed in and steeled myself for doing what I must. This is the road I have picked, and I can't be soft as I grabbed her arm.

"I am sorry... But I need your energy."

She begins to scream as her husband grabs their son and runs to the back after the woman fades away. I break out, running after them as we run through the back streets. I corner them in a building as he stands before the boy, shielding him from me.

"Why!"

"For power, I can absorb the dead. As I get stronger from it, I need more to make my dream real, and you three are my stepping stones. I don't know how many I will need to absorb, so I can't let go of you three only to have to come back and do it. I will bite this bullet here and now to get it over with."

The man looks at me with hate; I bet that's how I looked at them. You either die the hero or become the monster; that saying never rang truer than right now for me. The man tackled me, telling his son to run, but the boy stood there.

"Run! Why aren't you running!"

"I am tired here, Daddy. I don't want to be in this place anymore. I wish to disappear, and if I can also help James, then I am okay with it."

His father's body went limp as I began to place my arm on him. He didn't make a sound and just let it happen. Fading out of this world to where I don't know, but I don't need to know. The boy walked up to me and held out his hand with a smile.

"Thank you."

I take his hand.

"You're welcome, and I hope that you will find peace somewhere, and I hope for a better life after this for you and your family."

I lift my head and sigh as I turn around and begin to wipe out the dead on my block, one house at a time, growing stronger and stronger with everyone absorbed. As I finished, I returned to my home, and I could now see their faces, and rage started to build inside me. I jumped at Jasmine, my sister, wanting to rip her apart, but I went right through her in a fit of rage, their lights beginning to flicker.

"Jasmine, is there something wrong with the lights? I am trying to do my nails here."

"I don't know Samantha. Mom, did you pay the power bill?"

I hear them talk as my sister Samantha calls out to our mother, but knowing her, she is in her room with her boyfriend. My rage builds up again, and this time, the light busts, sending glass everywhere as all the lights in the living room, dining room, and kitchen blow out.

My sisters scream at the top of their lungs as my mother runs out of her run in her underwear without a bra on as her boyfriend flows behind her. My vision goes red as I jump at him, but this time, I can push him back, not by much, but he notices, which freaks him out.

I feel somewhat drained, but I can also feel it slowly returning. I smile as I am one step closer to justice, my justice. This fills me with a greater drive, and I pull myself off the ground and go to my room as I need to rest and get my mind right before starting again.

I walk to my room and open the door. As I stopped in my tracks, they changed my room; it had workout equipment. THEY CHANGED MY ROOM TO A HOME GYM! I yelled at the top of my lungs, opening the kitchen cabinets and scaring my family more.

My chest began to burn as I bared my teeth at them.

"Is it me, or did the room get colder?"

I asked my mother, and my sisters nodded their heads, trying to figure out what was going on. My head started to get hazy, and I fell to the floor and drifted off to sleep. I think I used too much energy too fast, and now I am paying the price.

Where am I?

Wake up; you have a purpose to fulfill.

My eyes slowly flutter open as I look around and see no one. As I pick myself off the ground, I look over myself and feel my energy back to normal. As I sit and sigh, I look at the room before me. What went wrong in my life? Our family was doing great when I was younger. Why did it have to fall apart? Why did my mother have to be so selfish?
