Chapter 9
Walking out the house she headed straight into the mountains. The mountain belonged to them so there were few people walking the path. The children were not at home neither their father too. Making use of that opportunity she jogged into the mountains to look for any prey.
Looking around the path she was walking on she noticed no footprint which was strange considering that her cheap husband had already come into the mountains. Narrowing her eyes she felt it seemed suspicious. The only conclusion she could come up with was that her cheap husband never entered the mountains. At this thought a smirk emerged on her lips.
"Interesting"
She had already suspected his extraordinary aura which was akin to that of those in the military especially one who has been to a battlefield and shed blood. Another thing she noticed was that everytime he came back from hunting there was no creases on his clothes or they smell of blood. It was more like he bought a killed prey and carried home. With all this she noticed it was weird for her not to suspect that he had another identity.
Pushing the thought out of her mind she ventured more into the mountains. As she walked deeper the surroundings became more quiet and desolate making her feel more disappointed.
"Ah. Is my luck so bad that I can't even find a pheasant egg for dinner." Su Ying lamented as she looked for a place to sit down.
Suddenly she had clucking sounds. At first she thought she was hallucinating but as she listened she heard the noises and from the sound she could tell it was heading towards her directions. And the surprising thing was that it was three pheasants. Quickly hiding she waited for the pheasant to approach. Gathering four stones she aimed at the pheasants. Her first shot accurately landed at the pheasant legs make it wail out in pain which alarmed the others.
Not wasting time she aimed at the other two taking them down at once. She emerged from the tree grinning like a fool. As she looked at the pheasants lying on the floor wailing she was delighted. She had already imagined countless way to kill them. Braised pheasant, boiling them or even frying me all which sounded delicious. She almost couldn't control her drool. She found a rope and tied the pheasants together throwing them into her basket.
As she walked through the paths where they pheasants came from she sighted their eggs barely covered. Happily she took it all. Counting it she found out it was actually 10 eggs all which were bigger as compared in the modern times. She placed them in a leaf she made into a nest and placed them carefully into the basket.
Looking at her basket she decided to head back home to cook the pheasants deciding to come back tomorrow to look for more things. Walking back she saw a red fruit hanging on a tree looking very tempting. Without hesitation she walked to the tree only to find out that they were ripe jujube fruit. Elated she started plucking those near to her. Tasting one her eyes lit up in delight and the freshness of the fruit.
Controlling herself she found out she had eaten almost 15 jujube fruit. The rest she started putting into her basket for the kids at home and of course her own. Happily plucking she decided it was enough. Su Ying then marked the spot deciding to come back there again. Satisfied she started descending the mountain back home with her bountiful harvest.
