Following Muyan's expulsion from Biggs University, he knew his life was taking a different turn now, when he got home he couldn't enter into the house as he was unsure of how his mother will react when she learns of his expulsion. So he sat outside and waited for his younger sister, Ara, to come back home.
After a while, he heard her voice and as soon as she saw her brother she began to feel sorry for him, she could tell he really wasn't himself and wished all these never happened.
"Who will now be my shield from all these bullies", she thought to herself.
"Welcome home Ara", he said to her.
"Thank you brother", she responded and urged him to follow her into the house but he was reluctant,
"Why don't you want to get in?", she asked.
"I.... honestly don't know how to break the news of my expulsion to mother and it's best I do so before she hears it from outsiders. I know she'd be disappointed in me I'm so sorry", Muyan said sadly.
Ara couldn't say anything, she held her brother's hand and took him into the house thinking of what he said. Truly, his expulsion was the talk of the school and she knew it had made she and her brother popular for the wrong reason.
"Hi mother", they greeted. Their mother had stayed back home that day for reasons best known to her.
" Welcome home my children", she replied then she noticed their downcast faces and she asked
"What is making you both unhappy, is there anything wrong?", she asked worried.
"No mother ", said Muyan, he denied but Ara wasn't having any of that because she didn't want an outsider to tell her mother what had happened at school.
"Err mother, something bad actually happened today at school ", Ara said
"And what is it?"
"Muyan got expelled mother "
"What!", said their mother dumbfounded, "Suspended or expelled? ", she queried.
"Expelled mother", Ara responded
Muyan's mother's face turned red with anger and disappointment. "You're a disgrace!"she shouted, her voice echoing through the house. "You've brought shame to our family!" She paced back and forth, her hands trembling. "I won't have you staying here, reminding me of your failure every day." She stopped in front of Muyan, her eyes blazing. "You'll go to your aunt's place in the village. Maybe she can straighten you out."
Hearing this, his heart dropped like a bomb as the thoughts of him becoming a medical doctor had shattered before his very eyes. He would be going to the village where he'll farm all day and take care of the domestic animals his aunt had. He'd become isolated again, away from his family and all the things he loved.
"What?! Mother, you can't send him away like this please ", Ara fell on her knees and began to beg "Please mother don't send my brother away, my brother didn't steal, I know he was framed please let him stay here even if it means for him to learn a skill just don't send him away. Mother please"
Furiously, Mrs Nato walked into her bedroom. Muyan knew things would take turn for the worst. His dearest mother had called him a failure just like everyone else, what could be worst than that, at this point he already knew his life would take a different turn.
Ara went after her mother to plead on her brother's behalf, she knew she was going to be lonely, "please mother don't send my brother away". Mrs Nato although still furious only managed to say "I've heard you"
The house was gloomy for the remaining hours of that day as they all weren't in a good mood.
The next day only managed to be better, "Good morning mother", Muyan said.
"Good morning Muyan. How was your night?", she replied.
"It was fine ma"
"Alright. So I thought to myself at night. Since you're no longer attending school, do you mind waiting for an extra year before I enroll you in another school or how do we go about it? I want you to still go to school and gain knowledge although I don't have the resources for it right now".
Hearing this, Muyan felt delighted and was convinced his mom had eventually calmed down.
"Yes mother I'll wait. But while I wait I'll find a skill to learn or little jobs to do so it can fetch me small money". Hearing this she felt delighted and said, "You're so smart my boy, if that's the case then there's no problem. I'm off to work and have a nice day ahead".
Now Muyan left all alone, went to the kitchen and began to do the dishes after that he swept and mopped the whole house and removed the few cobwebs he saw. He was doing his best to be on his mother's good books. After everything, he laid down on his bed to wait for his mom. Once she's back then they'll head to the market to get some food stuff so he could cook for the house, whilst doing nothing except waiting for his mom and sisters to come home Muyan eventually slept off.
It wasn't long after he slept off that he felt a little tap on his back.
"Good afternoon brother", Jojo said.
Slowly, Muyan opened his eyes and saw his little sister.
Grinning, he said "Welcome home Jojo", he immediately sat up on the bed and gave Jojo a warm hug.
"Where's Ara?", he asked.
"Still on her way home, I ran home that's why we didn't come back home together today", Jojo replied.
Laughing a bit, he asked "why did you run home?"
"I'm hungryyyyy", she said stressing the word "hungry".
He placed his hand on her back and began patting her, "Don't worry you'll soon eat, just chill till mom comes home first then we'll head to the market and you'll see food".
Just at that moment Ara and their mother entered the house. Immediately Jojo heard her mother's voice she ran to hug her mom shortly afterwards Muyan joined her.
"Welcome home mom", Muyan and Jojo chorused.
"Good afternoon my babies. How was school today?. Muyan how did you cope staying all alone today?", Mrs Nato said.
"School was fine mother".
"Not bad mother. I used my free time to do some cleaning so it kept me busy for a while till I slept off".
Mrs Nato took a second look at the house and truly it looked better than she had left it before leaving for work.
"Thank you so much my boy. May God bless you".
"Amen mother, God bless you too", Muyan said with a feeling of joy. He was glad his mother had forgiven him for his expulsion although she didn't say it but at least she appreciated his efforts.
"Are we still heading to the market mother?", he asked.
"Yes yes, we're going there now", Mrs Nato said and shortly afterwards they left the house.
The market had a bubbly atmosphere, it was filled with different people buying and selling different items varying from food stuff to clothes and toys and others, different traders were calling Mrs Nato and her son to patronize them but Mrs Nato already had a budget she was adhering to and Muyan kept on seeing different things he wished he had. "I'll work hard and get all these someday", he silently said to himself. Just when he was lost in his thoughts of affording what he wanted, a woman disrupted him.
"Hey you", the woman called out to Muyan rudely. "Good afternoon ma. How may I help you?"
Noticing the woman's strange behavior, Mrs Nato quickly approached the woman in a bid to shield her son.
"Yes. How may he help you?", Mrs Nato responded.
"I don't need his help. Aren't you the student that was expelled from your school for stealing. You're not here again to steal, are you?", she said harshly.
Hearing these people began to block Muyan from being close to their wares thinking he was truly a thief.
"How dare you harass and accuse my son of stealing?!!", Mrs Nato said almost attacking the woman. "Don't you ever call my child a thief again!!! if you try it I'll call the police to lock you up!! You don't go about accusing a child of something you know nothing about!! Muyan let's go!".
Just as she was about to drag him away, he felt another firm grip on his arm, he turned to see who it was and lo and behold, it was his long lost dad!
