Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Mending fences

MEGAN'S POV

"You don't have to do that. My cousin is going to come and pick me up." I refused Liam's offer of taking me back at my home. The unexpected person called Mia suddenly came and said. "Liam you can go ahead, I will take care of Megan." I heard her voice but due to my intoxication, I couldn't get a good look at her. Is she now becoming nice to me? Or is this the way she's trying to mend fences? "Alright, I'll help you with her, Liam said, his tone insistent." As I was drunk and unable to walk, Mia and Liam assisted by holding my hands, with Mia on the left and Liam on the right. As Mia and Liam held my hands, my phone slipped out of my grasp and fell to the ground. Despite my efforts, I was too drunk to bend down and pick it up, my legs feeling weak and unsteady.

"My phone... I sighed softly...it's down there... I start stammering... I wanna get it...I whispered...but I don't think I can..." "It's fine, I'll get it," Mia said calmly, her tone implying that nothing was amiss between us. "Hey Liam, can you keep an eye on Megan for a minute? I'm going to call her cousin to come take her home," said Mia.

As Mia went for a call, I was overcome with weakness, my intoxication hitting me hard. Feeling nauseous, I collapsed onto a couch beside Liam, waiting for Mia's return. My mind was a blur and I couldn't make sense of anything. At some point, I must have leaned on Liam's shoulder but I had no recollection of it, my drunkenness clearly getting the better of me. Mia quickly wrapped up her phone call, then turned to Liam. "Her cousin is waiting outside for her," she said. "We need to carry her carefully." Together, they grasped my hands, trying to steady me as they helped me up.

As soon as Mia spotted my cousin

Steven waiting outside, she discreetly whispered to Liam, "Her cousin is here." Mia

then approached Steven and quietly said, "Steven thanks for coming. Here's Megan." Steven replied, "Well, thanks guys" as he helped me into the car. Steven offered, "Mia, you're welcome to come along, besides it's getting late and I think your parents must be worried about you. I can drop you off at your house." Mia accepted, "Ok, thanks Steve," as she got into the car. As Steven started the engine, Mia waved goodbye to Liam. I think Mia is accepting my cousin's offer because she wants to maybe apologize to me on what she did earlier. I dozed off in the backseat and Mia was sitting beside me. My drunkenness kept me oblivious. After dropping Mia off at her home, Steven continued driving us to our place. Once we arrived, Steven woke me up, but I was still disoriented from my intoxication. He carefully helped me out of the car, holding my hands for support. Unfortunately, as he assisted me, I threw up on his clothes, which was extremely unpleasant. However, Steven didn mind, being my cousin and feeling responsible for taking care of me. He then helped me to my room, laid me down on my bed, removed my shoes and covered me with a blanket.

Steven helped me set up my alarm so I could wake up on time for my lectures. When I woke up, my head was throbbing, likely due to a hangover. I stumbled downstairs to grab a glass of water, still trying to piece together the events of the previous night. All I could recall was Mia speaking condescendingly to me. I didn't want to disturb Steven, so I got ready for campus on my own. After putting my outfit and makeup, I headed out with my driver.

Upon arriving at campus, I made my way to the economics department room, where I found Mia already seated. Still upset with her chose to sit elsewhere. Mia glanced at me with a look of pity, but I ignored her and focused on preparing for the lecture.

After the lecture, I walked out and Mia followed me. I didn't wait for her to speak, but she persisted, eventually grabbing my hand. I shook her off, but she called out my name, "Megan!" I stopped and turned around, and she approached me tears streaming down her face. Mia held my hands and apologized profusely. "I'm so sorry for what I did yesterday. It won't happen again, I promise." I looked at her, puzzled. "Why did you behave that way? Did I upset you?" I asked, remaining her that we'd been friends since childhood. Mia confessed. "I was jealous when I saw you with Liam." I scoffed,"Liam? Why would you be jealous of me? I coincidentally met him, and I didn't expect you to think I'd pursue someone you're interested in."

Mia knelt down, apologizing again. "I'm so sorry, Megan. Please forgive me." I helped her up and replied, "I'll think about it." With that I departed.

As I walked to a nearby diner, I ran into Liam, but I ignored him and continued on my way. At the diner, I ordered lunch and thought about how to respond to Mia's apology. We'd be friends for a long time and I valued our friendship, but I wouldn't let it be compromised by her behavior over Liam. Lost in thought, I didn't notice someone calling my name until they repeated it. I looked up to see Harris, and my face lit up with a smile. "Hey Megan," he said, approaching me. "May I join you?" I nodded and he sat down flashing his charming dimples. Harris noticed my distant expression and asked if everything was okay. I brushed it off, but he encouraged me to open up. "It's just that I had a fight with my friend Mia," I admitted, tears welling up in my eyes. Harris offered words of comfort, wiping away my tears. "If you want to forgive her, follow your heart." he advised.

Just then, Mia walked into the diner and spotted us. She came over, asking if she could join me. I agreed, and Harris excused himself, leaving us to talk privately. Mia and I discussed our issue and eventually, we resolved our conflict. I forgave her and we shared a heartfelt hug.
