Chapter 18 - Mock Battle

After spending another eight hundred energy points to station the three storm serpents in the labyrinth, Axel suddenly got the idea of conducting a mock battle with his monsters. He wanted to test the efficiency of the three types of monsters working together. And their opponent? Sylva, of course. Axel knew he would struggle against just the golem alone, let alone the trio of void crawler, golem, and serpent.

"Hey Sylva, want to have a battle?" Axel asked the little blob resting on his shoulder.

'Siiil!' Sylva responded cheerfully. Despite her small size and cute appearance, Sylva craved battle and blood, as hinted by the ominous aura when she was first summoned. She kept her urges in check when with Axel, but the thrill of combat was always close to the surface.

"I'll have you practice with the others in the labyrinth. Be careful not to kill them, okay?" Axel warned. He had full confidence in Sylva's power. He could never forget the overwhelming pressure he felt when she first awakened from her evolution.

"So, Sylva, you'll be fighting against these three for now," Axel said, pointing at the golem, void crawler, and storm serpent standing before them. "And you three, give it your all to defeat Sylva. Got it?" The three monsters nodded in unison.

"Alright, go wild, but no killing each other!" Axel gestured for them to begin.

The storm serpent was the first to act, hurling a lightning orb toward Sylva. Sylva dodged with ease but was slowed by the lingering sparks.

Simultaneously, the stone golem advanced with the serpent moving closely behind. The void crawler blinked to Sylva's rear, aiming its venomous attack at her senses.

Despite the lightning-induced sluggishness, Sylva swiftly dodged the venom and exited the lightning field. She immediately targeted the golem, skillfully leaping over its slam and latching onto its arm, draining its life force.

The serpent reacted by launching a barrage of lightning at the golem's arm, though the stone structure rendered the attack largely ineffective.

Sylva sprang off the golem to avoid the lightning, countering with a focused energy beam directed at the serpent. Unable to dodge in time, the serpent took the hit directly to its head, knocking it unconscious.

With the ranged support neutralized, Sylva quickly subdued the remaining two opponents. The golem's slow attacks were easy to evade, allowing Sylva to target its blind spots. The void crawler, hindered in close combat by Sylva's ability to latch on, found itself pressured by her energy beams. Constant blinking wore it down, and when it slowed, Sylva seized the chance, landing a decisive shot and knocking it out.

'Siiil!' Sylva returned to Axel's shoulder with a proud expression.

"Haha, great work, Sylva! They're no match for you," Axel praised, stroking the little blob. While Sylva was clearly too strong for his monsters, the synergy between the golem, void crawler, and storm serpent was evident. With their teamwork, they could definitely overpower enemies, as long as those foes weren't vastly superior, like Sylva.
