Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

It is two weeks before true winter, Light snow has started to fall. Endal is wandering about within the gray forest, His feet was buried beneath three inches of snow, leaving a trail of line as he walked, his hooded cloak was partially covered in snow.He was looking for a specific plant, The blue ivy for his experiments, It's been said that it can cure a particular sickness, and so Endal left the village to look for it.The sound of passing wind rustled the grey leaves, Endal turned his head at the direction where the wind blew, his hood coming off to his back by the wind, revealing his face, his skin pale as snow, his eyes dim with blue, his black laid back hair that extended to his neck."The winds...something is coming here." He said in a low toned voice. "I must hurry".He started to walk faster, glancing left and right, backwards and forwards until finally, he has found the blue ivy, dimming with blue light, at the side of a tall grey tree.He then wore a fur glove and slowly plucked the small plant, for the blue ivy is deceptively poisonous despite it's colorful appeal to the eyes.He then put it in his pouch. "Now i must hurry back before-" Before he could finish his sentence, a loud thunderous roar can be heard in the distance high above. The wind became more furious and rustling the leaves harder and falling from it's branch.Endal then started to run, The wind becoming ever more furious to the point that branches started to rip from the trees and flew everywhere.Flaps of wings can be heard, slowly it became louder.Endal knew that he cannot outrun from what is coming, and so he hid under the embankment at the side of a tree. Finally the cause of the furious winds can be seen, it is a wyvern.A light blueish two legged Serpent, with large bat-like wings, razor sharp like teeth and claws that looks like curved bladed ice, It's blueish scales was like blurry mirror. It landed near where Endal was hiding just behind the wyvern, it landed with such force that the ground shook breaking more branches from the trees and landing on the snow covered ground, some of it landed atop on Endal, fortunately most were thin and light, not enough to do serious harm. The wyvern slowly strode forward, a reddish scar can be seen, it appears to be wounded on the left side of it's abdomenAs it moves away, Endal slowly moved to the opposite direction from where the wyvern was heading, making small movements, the sound of snow rustling was not enough for the wyvern to hear.Suddenly a loud crack of a broken branch can be heard, enough to startle both Endal and the wyvern, a deer had stepped on a branch. As both turned to look at the deer, it ran away, the wyvern snarled at the deer, but at the edge of it's sight saw Endal. The wyvern turned and let out a deafening roar, so loud that the surroundings vibrated. It then arched back forth, the head extending upward, ready to let out a breath. In mere moments it drew a freezing mist breath in front, icicles forming from it's mouth and freezing the trees in front.Large cloud formed in front of the wyvern, shaking it's head on rotation after the attack. The cloud slowly settled and in front of the winged beast, there was a wall of ice, behind it was Endal, his hands extended forward, emitting blue light and snow swirling around his hands."Fruga" he spoke in arcanic tone, meaning frost. The blue beast let out another roar, and started to charge at Endal.Endal then stepped forward with one foot and extended his arms again, the icy wall in front of him shattered and forming into sharp spikes, flying head long directed at the wyvern's face, shattering at contact and nearly hits it's eyes. The wyvern closed it's eyes in panic and pain, it flipped frontward, Endal then dodged the out balanced beasts coming at him sideways, breaking trees as the beast rolled on it's back. The wyvern roared again as it rolled over to it's chest, Endal lifted his left arm upward into the air, large sharp tipped icicles formed upward from the ground in a cone like manner, directed at the wyvern, hitting the beasts but much of it broke due to it's sturdy scales, but pierced through it's skin from where the reddish scar was seen at the side of it's abdomen. The serpent roared in pain, it then extended it's wings, and flapped forward in the direction of Endal, the cone of icicles broke and sent Endal off his feet and he flew backwards, his back hit a tree and broke through it, and let out a painful grunt as he hit.Endal landed sideward on the snowy ground, he let out a gush of blood from his mouth, he slowly got up, dots of blood landed on the white snow as blood dripped from his face. The winged serpent then again began to extend it's head upward, obviously readying another breath attack, Endal knowing he can't dodge it this time, moved his hands into a locking position together, the snow surrounding the wyvern began to envelop the serpent, it tried to struggle, breaking some of the snow only to reform back, It kept struggling in vein until the snow completely enveloped the beast, forming a seemingly perfect sphere.Endal knowing that it would not be enough to slay the serpent, started casting another spell. The sphere started to slowly dissipate as bits of snow landed on the ground, the wyvern furiously swinging and writhing it's body all over, the sphere started to more and more disappear, freeing it's wings.A large orb made of light started to form from Endal's hands, slowly becoming larger and larger every second. The wyvern finally broke free from the white sphere it was in cased in, letting out a freezing breath directed at Endal.Endal finally finished his spell and threw the glowing sphere at the wyvern, breaking through it's icy breath, the orb exploded upon contact on the beast's face, covering it's entire head to half of it's neck in thick ice. The wyvern writhe and twist all of it's body to free it's head in cased in thick ice, breaking nearby trees and sending it flying at every direction. It then extended it's wings and started to fly, debris from shattered objects started to fly everywhere, and even started to directly fly at Endal.Endal casted another wall of ice to block incoming debris. The winged serpent flew just above the trees but not too high up, it tries to shake it's head to remove the thick ice covering it's face, he flew everywhere, hitting trees as it go, then crashing sideways at a cliff side, half the ice covering it's head shattered, it then crashed on the ground. The wyvern was staggered, having trouble to get up on it's feet, obviously in disarray, Endal then run towards the serpent before it could recover, despite his own injuries, he formed a icy spear on his hand as he ran, he went at the side of the wyvern's abdomen and thrust his frozen spear through it's exposed abdomen caused by his earlier attack. The wyvern then writhe in pain, it's head smashed through a thick tree shattering the remaining ice from it's face, it then flew in the air again, Endal was dragged upward with it, as he did not want to let go of the spear that was still stuck at the side abdomen of the serpent, he wanted to thrust it deeper to finish off the beast.Gush of blood splattered Endal as the wyvern started to bleed furiously, still Endal held on to the spear, the wyvern crashing through several trees while it flew, it then started to fly upward, higher and higher.Endal was slipping from his blood covered spear, he then froze his hand to the weapon as to not let go, the wyvern still climbing upward to the sky, it's movements started to become sluggish, it began to flap it's swings slower and slower. The air becoming thinner, Endal started to lose consciousness but still held on, the wyvern's wings was slowing down and then it stopped completely, the serpent has also started to lose consciousness. They stopped mid air, and the wyvern began to fall on it's back, as it fell blood still gushed from it's abdomen but they were falling faster than it's blood, leaving dividing red trail of blood in the sky.Endal lost consciousness as they were falling downward, His spear started to dissipate and then vanished to small dust, separating him from the wyvern. The serpent crashed though a frozen lake, creating a huge icy splash as it hit, Endal followed through. Both Endal and the wyvern started to sink deeper into the lake, the serpent was still, it was finally dead, bled to death, Endel was also still, his eyes was open, blankly staring at the serpent that is sinking and fading into the dark abyss.Endel started to see visions, he saw a dark gigantic rectangular obelisk in the distance surrounded by an ocean of snow, the sky was dark, yet the ground was still bright of white, as if the black sky did not affect it.He was standing far away from this obelisk, he wanted to get closer to the titanic structure, but his legs was frozen on the ground, no matter what he did, his legs would not budge. This was not the first time he saw this dream. As far as he can remember, every time he slept he dreamt this exact specific scenario, but he never got close. The obelisk emitted a dark aura, yet Endal did not felt any dread, in fact he felt like he needed to get closer to the black structure, he felt that he must reach it.He could hear a single voice, always this voice, the sound of a whispering plea, as if begging him to come, always coming from a distance, seemingly coming from the obelisk itself. It kept saying "Return".The obelisk started to fade, a rush of bubbles covered his vision, Endal woke from his dream and started to drown, he began to swim upwards into the light, finally making it out and his head just above water. He was gasping for air, he then swam to the nearest shore, once he reached it, he crawled further inland just at the side of the shattered frozen river. He was still gasping for air, breathing deep and exhaling just as much, he then turned and laid on his back. His breathing started to finally slow, resting a bit, his clothes were very wet.He slowly started to get up and took off his clothes, leaving only his loincloth that covered his groin, he then squeezed his wet clothes to dry it, a small pouch dropped to the ground.Endal suddenly rushed to open the pouch, worried that the blue ivy was destroyed during his fight with the wyvern, he was relieved that it was not damaged, despite from the intense battle."Frilgen" he gently uttered, it meant fire.A small orb of fire emitted from his hand, enough heat to dry his clothes, an hour has passed and his clothes were finally dry, he then wore it back on.Despite the freezing temperature of the environment, Endal was never affected by it, in fact all his life he never really felt cold. At first it never occurred to him that it was not normal not to feel cold, yet as he grew he noticed that others were not like him, the villagers felt the cold, they shivered when it was freezing, surrounded close to the campfires.Despite wearing thick fur clothing, he only wore it because he thought it was just tradition to his tribe's culture, he only found out when he asked the others as to why they wear it.He had asked the elders and village seers as to why he couldn't feel cold, none of them could really explain, and simply said he was gifted, granted by faurgus, God of winter, the patron god of Aesgar. When he asked his mother, she merely ignored it, swept it aside with other conversations, since then he never asked again nor did he try to find out, the village accepted him as for he is, despite his difference. After he was ready, he began his journey back home, it took several hours to make it back to the village down to the southwestern shores from the northern regions at the foot of the whispering mountains.Endal was finally home at sunset, before the sun fell from the horizon.
