Chapter 24 - I Am Sorry, Too.

It was quite late into the night, and Diane was still waiting for Diego. She had dosed off quite a few times, but she was still determined to stay awake. She had gone to see Morris, Leonia, and even said hello to Dorothy and Alice. Now she was currently sitting In the room, with a lizard running and playing In between her fingers. "Diego, might be right. You really just entered the adult stage." She told it. "We are quite similar. I entered that adult stage, a few months back, too." She gave a small smile. The lizard just nodded its scaly head on her hand. 'Digeo, I hope he is okay' No sooner had the thought come to her head, than the bedroom door got pushed open, and a man came Staggering in. "Diego! Are you Okay? Diego!" Diane who saw the state he was in, immediately abandoned the lizard and ran up to him, catching him just before he fell. "What's wrong?" She asked. He remained silent. That was when she perceived the fragrance of the 'sweet smelling perfume' "Were you out drinking?" She asked. "It's none of your business." Was the curt reply. "How much did you drink?" She asked. The reply was the same. Gosh! This man is being absolutely impossible! She managed to help him sit on the bed, and was helping him take his shoes off when she saw how flushed his face looked. She was no doctor, but won't your body tell you when it's had enough?! "Hey, Don't sleep. I haven't changed your clothes yet." She said, when she noticed him as she saw him swaying from one side to the other. "I had a long day today." He said, as if that was a good enough explanation. "But you still had spare time to go drinking." Diane said. "Be quiet." Diego ordered. Diane nearly lost it. Who should be the one to keep silent here?! You barely have any control of what you are saying!

"Whew." Diane exhaled after getting him changed. Diego was currently leaning forward against her where she stood. "Hey! Don't lean against me, Do you know how much you weigh?" She asked him, trying hard not to fall. "Be quiet." He repeated himself. Diane was speechless. How much did this man actually drink? "I won't have changed your clothes, but I can't sleep with that stench." She said, as she roughly laid him down on the bed. "I would rather sleep on the roof!" She said. How it happened, she couldn't satisfactorily explain, all she knew is one moment, she was trying to tuck him in, and the next, he was towering over her. "Diego." Diane began as quietly as possible. "What do you think you are doing?" She asked. Surely, this man couldn't possibly want an heir from her, right here, right now? She doesn't want to do it with him I his drunken state! "Diane Lewis, I really feel like strangling you right now." Diego began. "Do you know how my day went because of you?" He asked. "I could ask you the same, Diego Raymond." She said, insinuating 'Two can play this game.' "Besides, how could your entire day be ruined because of me? I didn't show up in your place of work or anything." She added. "You didn't,.but I wish you did." He said. "I kind of missed how you pick a fight with me over every slight provocation." Diane's mouth was agape at this point.. This man, really isn't in his right senses! "Diego, How about you go to sleep now? You are tired, and you have a long day ahead of you right? So let me go and go to sleep, we will talk tomorrow okay?" Diane said, trying to sound as sweet as possible. But the man didn't let her go. "You.." He began. "Do you really hate me?" He asked. Diane was astounded. Did he look... sad? For a splitsecond, Diane saw the scene of the boy she saw in her dreams, and how lonely he was. "I don't... hate you." She replied, as she looked away from his eye contact. "I only said that on the spur of the moment. I don't like you keeping things from me. Couples won't get closer if they keep hiding things from each other." She said. "You don't?" Diego asked. "I don't." She replied without hesitation. "Do you really mean it?" He asked again. "Yes!" She responded, with a grunt of frustration. Damn it, Diego, it's 3am and she hadn't slept all day! "I am glad." He said, as he slowly let her go, rolling to his side of the bed. "I am glad that you don't hate me, like they did." They? Nevermind, better still if she doesn'task. "But you do act in a despicable way, at times." She said. "I am sorry. I will try to improve upon myself from now on." Diego answered in a low tone, as his body could no longer fight the sedative effects of the alcohol. "I am, also equally sorry." Diane said, not sure if he actually heard her or not. "You must have been quite lonely." She added, but all she heard in response was a gentle snore.
