Chapter 38 - Chapter 37

The journey to the mountains was fraught with challenges. The team moved under the cover of darkness, avoiding populated areas to minimize the risk of detection. The weight of their mission pressed heavily on their shoulders, but their resolve was unshakeable.

As they trekked through dense forests and rugged terrain, the temperature dropped, and the air grew thinner. Seok-jin led the way, his keen senses attuned to any signs of danger. "We should be nearing the foothills soon," he said, his breath visible in the cold air.

Hana, who had taken up the rear to ensure no one was left behind, glanced at Maeve. "How are you holding up?" she asked, her concern evident.

Maeve gave a weary smile. "I've been through worse," she replied, though the fatigue in her eyes betrayed her words.

The team finally emerged from the forest, the towering mountains looming ahead. The ancient temple was hidden somewhere within their peaks, and finding it would be no easy task. They paused to catch their breath and assess their surroundings.

Ji-Hoon spread out the map on a flat rock. "According to the legends, the temple is located in a hidden valley, accessible only through a narrow pass," he explained, tracing the route with his finger. "We'll need to be cautious. The Void may have set up defenses to protect its source."

Soo-min, ever vigilant, kept watch while the others rested. "We're being followed," she said quietly, her eyes scanning the treeline.

Everyone tensed, their hands instinctively reaching for their weapons. "How many?" Ji-Hoon asked, his voice low.

"Can't tell for sure," Soo-min replied. "But they're close."

Seok-jin nodded. "We need to move, and quickly. We'll use the cover of night to our advantage."

The team set off again, their pace brisk but cautious. They moved in silence, the only sounds being the crunch of leaves underfoot and the distant calls of nocturnal creatures. The narrow pass that Ji-Hoon had mentioned soon came into view, a rocky trail that wound its way up the mountainside.

As they ascended, the terrain became more treacherous. Loose rocks and sheer drops tested their endurance and nerve. Hana's demonic senses tingled with unease. "Something's not right," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Moments later, a shadowy figure leaped out from behind a boulder, its form twisting and unnatural. It was one of The Void's minions, sent to stop them. "Ambush!" Ji-Hoon shouted, raising his weapon.

The team reacted with practiced precision. Soo-min fired her rifle, the shot ringing out in the still night. Maeve and Hana took defensive positions, their powers at the ready. Seok-jin and Ji-Hoon charged forward, engaging the enemy head-on.

The battle was fierce and chaotic. More minions emerged from the shadows, their eyes glowing with a sickly green light. The team fought valiantly, their determination fueling their strength. But the enemy was relentless, and the terrain made the fight even more perilous.

Hana's eyes glowed with demonic energy as she unleashed a blast of power, sending several minions tumbling down the mountainside. "Keep moving!" she urged, knowing they couldn't afford to be delayed.

Ji-Hoon and Seok-jin led the way, their strikes precise and deadly. Soo-min provided cover fire, her marksmanship keeping the enemy at bay. Maeve channeled her energy into protective barriers, shielding her teammates from harm.

Despite the intensity of the battle, the team managed to push through the ambush. They reached the end of the pass, breathless but victorious. "Is everyone alright?" Ji-Hoon asked, his eyes scanning his comrades for injuries.

"We're fine," Maeve replied, though exhaustion was clear on her face. "But we need to keep moving. The temple can't be far now."

The team pressed on, their steps determined despite their weariness. The narrow pass opened into a hidden valley, and there, nestled among the peaks, stood the ancient temple. Its stone walls were weathered by time, but a powerful energy radiated from within.

"We've found it," Hana said, her voice filled with awe and relief.
