In this dormitory, only the four-poster bed in the northwest corner contained the backpack that Lynn had previously placed in the train compartment, while the other three beds were very clean and tidy, without any luggage.
This surprised Lynn.
"Judging by the sorting ceremony just now, it seems I'm the last to enter Slytherin. Could it be that I'm the only one in this dormitory?"
Lynn thought to himself.
A dormitory can accommodate four young wizards. If the number of students sorted into Slytherin before Lynn is a multiple of four, then the additional Lynn would naturally be assigned to a new dormitory.
In other words, Lynn might have an entire dormitory to himself!
As for the three remaining beds, they were probably reserved for the three new Slytherin students after next year's sorting ceremony.
The night passed quickly.
The first class of the morning was Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall. To avoid being late, Lynn woke up early and ran to the Transfiguration classroom after breakfast.
However, those moving staircases in the castle really caused him a lot of trouble. It took Lynn almost half an hour to get from the auditorium to the Transfiguration classroom.
This time, Lynn understood why Harry and Ron were late to their first class in the original book.
Without a bit of luck and strength, you could spend half the day on these stairs.
This Transfiguration class was taught with Gryffindor and Slytherin together. When Lynn arrived in the classroom, a tabby cat was sitting on the podium.
Lynn knew that the tabby cat was Professor McGonagall's Animagus form, so he bowed to the cat and then sat down.
This made Professor McGonagall take another look at Lynn.
When the school bell rang, the tabby cat suddenly leapt forward and transformed into the human form of Professor McGonagall mid-air, causing all the young wizards to scream.
Professor McGonagall took two steps forward. She seemed very pleased with the students' reaction. She said, "I'm glad to see you all here, and I'm happy no one is late for our first Transfiguration class. Some of you may have already learned the art of Transfiguration, while others may know nothing about it, but regardless of whether you've learned it before, I need to emphasize one thing first: the basic law of Transfiguration, Gamp's Law of Transfiguration!"
"Gamp's Law of Transfiguration tells us that wizards can transform objects or create things. However, there are five main exceptions, one of which is food. We cannot conjure delicious food out of thin air, but if we know food is somewhere, and we have some food on hand, we can cast spells to change it or increase it."
"Remember, never try to turn other objects into food. There was once a wizard who turned a wooden table into bread and ate it because he couldn't find any food. He later died because the magic keeping the transformation went with time, and over time, the bread turned back into a wooden table in his body. So when they found his body, it was filled with wood splinters!"
"Transfiguration is the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts. No one is allowed to be mischievous in my class; otherwise, I will invite you to leave and deny you access to my Transfiguration classroom forever. Also, if this incorrect behavior harms other students, you will even be judged by the Ministry of Magic!"
Professor McGonagall said very seriously.
Everyone stopped talking, all of them scared by the consequences of what Professor McGonagall had said.
At that moment, Lynn suddenly raised his hand and asked, "Professor McGonagall, if a wizard has enough magical power to maintain the transformation spell until they age or die, would the transformed food always remain in the form of food without harming the wizard?"
Upon hearing this, Professor McGonagall shook her head and said, "Lynn, your question is very good. But I want to explain one thing: the magical power required to sustain a transformation spell will gradually increase over time. As far as I know, no wizard has the magical power to sustain a transformation for hundreds of years, not even Professor Dumbledore."
Lynn nodded thoughtfully. From this perspective, the relationship between the magical power consumed to maintain the transformation and time is not a linear function but rather an exponential one.
Professor McGonagall continued, "Not only that, but the magical power required to maintain the transformation is also related to the size of the object. If the object is large, the duration will be shorter; conversely, if the object is small, the duration will be longer."
"And what I need you to do in this Transfiguration class is to try to transform a matchstick into a needle!"
Professor McGonagall said, handing everyone a matchstick.
Lynn took out his wand and whispered the incantation.
The matchstick gradually changed under the control of his Transfiguration technique. First, one end became thinner, and its entire body gradually glowed with a silver light.
After completing the external changes, Lynn tried to change the texture of the matchstick from wood to metal.
But no matter how Lynn used his mind to control the matchstick, he could only make it look more like a silver needle, but inside, it was still a piece of wood.
Even so, Lynn's progress was already the fastest in the classroom.
Professor McGonagall approached and saw the matchstick that had turned into a silver needle in front of Lynn, and she couldn't help but praise, "Well done! Although it wasn't entirely successful, it's already impressive that the transformation reached this level for the first time! For your excellent Transfiguration, 2 points to Slytherin!"
"Thank you, Professor!" Lynn said.
For the rest of the Transfiguration class, Lynn continued to try to change the texture of the matchstick and finally completed the transformation before the class ended, turning the matchstick completely into a silver needle.
Without a doubt, this earned Lynn two more points for Slytherin.
After leaving the Transfiguration classroom, Lynn walked to the Potions classroom located underground in Hogwarts Castle.
As he passed the auditorium, Lynn ran into Fred and George.
"Hey, bro!" Fred walked over to Lynn and patted him on the shoulder.
George said from the side, "We didn't expect you to actually get into Slytherin. After all, in our opinion, you don't seem like one of those little snakes at all."
Lynn shrugged and said honestly, "The Sorting Hat said I have traits of all four main houses, but in the end, I was sorted into Slytherin."
Lynn didn't tell them that it was actually his choice to be in Slytherin.
Fred said regretfully, "What a pity you didn't come to Gryffindor."
George added, "It doesn't matter, Fred, we're still good friends after all, right? By the way, Lynn, are you free tonight?"
Fred continued, "If you're free, meet us in the Trophy Room after dinner tonight. We've got something good to show you!"
