Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Speed Enhanced to the Extreme

In just a few seconds, Haku was electrocuted by the Lightning Style technique, his body scorched inside and out. He collapsed to the ground, darkened by the intense electrical discharge.

At the same time, Zabuza leapt out of the flames, his condition not much better than Haku's. His Executioner's Blade had suffered significant damage, with one corner blown apart. The explosion of the explosive tag, which had been affixed to the blade, had dealt a critical blow to the weapon.

Now holding the broken Executioner's Blade, Zabuza glanced at the unconscious Haku lying nearby. His face grew darker with anger and frustration.

Two against one, and their opponent was just a Leaf Village Genin a kid. Yet it was his own ally who had been taken out first. This was a humiliation unlike any he had ever endured.

Clenching his teeth lightly, Zabuza thought bitterly about the situation. The boy hadn't even used that insanely fast technique yet. If Sasuke unleashed it, Zabuza wasn't sure he'd last.

His original plan had been to rely on Haku's Ice Style to disrupt Sasuke if the boy used that speed-based technique, preventing him from landing powerful attacks. The goal was to stall until Sasuke's chakra was depleted, at which point Zabuza would strike back.

But that scenario was now impossible.

As Zabuza stood there, racking his brain for a solution, Sasuke had no intention of waiting. He raised his hand, drawing another kunai. This time, Sasuke aimed to end the fight completely.

Without any interference, Sasuke wanted to test a new move he'd been working on not a new jutsu, but a new technique.

"Lightning Style: Godspeed!"

Crackle Zap!

The sound of electricity filled the air as lightning erupted from Sasuke, accompanied by a massive surge of chakra. The overwhelming energy made Zabuza's face pale.

As expected, the kid was preparing to use that technique. The question was whether Zabuza could hold out until Sasuke's chakra was depleted.

Just as this thought crossed his mind, Sasuke smiled.

"I bet you're wondering if you can outlast my chakra, right?"

Zabuza didn't reply, his silence confirming the truth of Sasuke's words. He remained still, carefully adjusting his stance and preparing himself.

Having witnessed the terrifying speed of Lightning Style: Godspeed before, Zabuza knew just how unstoppable Sasuke's next attack would be. The only strategy left was to endure endure until the boy's chakra ran dry.

"However! This time is going to be different!"

Sasuke smiled.

This time, Sasuke had no intention of activating Swift Thunder.

There was no need for it.

With his base speed now significantly enhanced, Swift Thunder was unnecessary.

To deal with Zabuza as he was now, a move like Lightning Flash would suffice.

Although Lightning Flash was not as fast as Swift Thunder, the gap was not significant compared to his previous speed with Swift Thunder.

In this state, Sasuke could move freely according to his will.

Which meant...

Suddenly, Sasuke raised one hand into the air.

In an instant, countless streaks of lightning gathered in his palm.

"Chidori!"

The sound of thousands of birds chirping erupted instantly.

In just a few breaths, Sasuke successfully activated Chidori.

At the same time, the lightning flashing across his body became noticeably softer and more controlled.

"Lightning Flash!"

A slight smirk tugged at Sasuke's lips.

As expected, activating Godspeed did not hinder Sasuke from using other jutsu.

The combination of Godspeed and Chidori would undoubtedly form a deadly strike.

Chidori, which already enhanced speed, paired with Godspeed, which pushed speed to its peak!

The speed boost from combining the two wasn't simply a matter of one plus one equaling two.

Additionally, Chidori's destructive power was immense, but its flaw lay in needing to land a direct hit on the enemy.

No matter how powerful an attack was, if it couldn't hit its target, it was futile.

But with the boost from Godspeed, missing the enemy with Chidori would be nearly impossible.

"Are you ready, Zabuza-san?"

Sasuke's voice rang out.

At that moment, Zabuza felt his entire body shiver, his hair standing on end.

And in the blink of an eye...

Zabuza barely had time to blink before

A brilliant streak of lightning flashed past him.

At the same time, the sound of thousands of birds chirping echoed by his ears.

"This is... Kakashi's... Raikiri?"

That Sasuke could use Kakashi's jutsu wasn't surprising to Zabuza.

What puzzled him was what had just happened in that instant.

The Sasuke in front of him had disappeared.

All he could see was a lingering streak of lightning cutting across his vision.

Then, Zabuza turned his head to look behind him.

At some point he didn't know when Sasuke had already appeared at his back.

The moment Zabuza saw Sasuke's silhouette, a sharp pain erupted from his chest.

Slowly, he lowered his gaze.

At his chest, a massive, gaping wound had appeared without his realizing it.

Blood gushed out uncontrollably.

And soon, Zabuza felt his strength rapidly draining away.

To be precise, his very life force was fading.

"So... fast..."

He hadn't seen it at all.

When did Sasuke strike?

When had he been hit?

The speed was so great that even the pain hadn't registered until it was too late.

That such a speed could belong to a mere genin kid!

"Monster!"

"A monster from Konoha!"

Thud!

Zabuza collapsed to the ground, his breathing ceased.

At the same time, the lightning surrounding Sasuke's body dissipated.

He looked down at his right hand.

Crimson cuts ran along his arm, and sharp pain radiated from his legs.

"The speed was too much for my body to handle," he muttered.

"It seems this move can only be used as a finishing blow definitely not something I can use casually."

Otherwise, the enemy might survive while Sasuke himself would be crippled.

Training was absolutely essential. If his body could endure the strain, then handling such speed would no longer be an issue.

"Z-Zabuza... sir..."

Haku's trembling voice broke the silence. Sasuke glanced toward him.

Zabuza had been instantly killed by Sasuke's attack.

Yet in Haku's eyes, the light of life seemed to fade as well.

Dragging his injured body, Haku slowly crawled toward Zabuza.

When he reached Zabuza's side, lying in a pool of blood, a smile appeared on Haku's face.

"At last... you can rest now... Zabuza-sama..."

By then, Sasuke had already turned and left.

What Haku wanted to do or how he chose to act was his decision to make.

Though Sasuke felt some sympathy for him, another's life was theirs to control.
