Chereads / System: Falling For A Demi-god That I Am Meant To Kill / Chapter 12 - 12. The reign of the demigod

Chapter 12 - 12. The reign of the demigod

Within the blink of an eye, a week passed and Anna didn't experience any other notable conflict within the castle, everything just went the way that anyone would expect it to, and she did her job as an assistant maid to the princess so well.

Avoiding the king was easy especially because the king himself was aware of his wife's threat to her, so he always spoke with Anna only when she was absent, and acted very indifferent toward Anna in her presence.

Another thing she noticed within the past week was that the king brothers were nothing short of perverts, and this has earned them a very bad name in the kingdom. Turn out that the rumours were true.

All the princes, three of them, were not married but had a record number of babies with servants and maids within the castle, none of which was worthy of an inheritance.

The maid with whom he had a child is often sent out of the castle with the child and is given some money to fend for herself, while in some cases, she would stay back in the castle, no longer as a servant but one of the many mistresses to the Prince.

On the second day after she was taken into the castle, Anna encountered the second Prince named Charles, his long black hair with a few white stripes and his perfect smile made him appear like a potential love interest.

He is the most handsome of all the late King's sons, making him the most dreamy among the maids. Anna was indifferent when he approached her, a perfect smile plastered to his face as he attempted to lure he with charming words.

He made numerous promises which Anna thought were just foolish and baseless, and thanks to all the rumours, she knew to back away and not give him a chance. Her biggest fear was being forced into doing something that she didn't want to, he's a Prince after all and there are usually no consequences for those immoral actions.

Day after day, Charles tried to talk with Anna but she completely ignored him which was a first for him. Anna had once told him that she would rather be killed and hung for public displays than to sleep with him and these words hurt him so much that he began plotting to take her out of the castle.

So much for not experiencing any notable drama, isn't it? But knowing who his brothers were, the King always had Anna's back, he is the most reasonable of all the late King's sons, and currently the most stressed.

Anna always wondered what he did, he left the castle by day and sometimes didn't return till sunset, and he always looked half dead. The weight of the entire kingdom was on his shoulders and he certainly couldn't share them with anyone else, or perhaps he chose not to.

Today, there was a grand preparation going on within the castle, everyone was busy, either cooking, moving wines from the store to the dining, or getting the princesses and the Queen ready, everyone was occupied, but Anna was yet to know the occasion.

"What is happening today?" She manage to ask the maid whom she has assisted since the beginning of the week. They were in the little Princess's room together trying to get the little girl's hair done, but she wasn't cooperating with them because everything was a distraction to her.

"Oh, sometimes I forget that you just got here," She said with a smile,

"We are preparing for the demigods coming."

Anna's eyes widened in shock as she watched the maid chase after Clarion who got distracted after the cub climbed into her room through the open window.

"Demigod?" Anna muttered as she tried to recall what the system had said about him.

"Who is he?" She asked, but the maid could barely hear her.

"Who? The demigods?" The maid inquired,

"How don't you know who the demigods are, aren't you from around here?" She finally caught up with the princess who was now riding on the cub's back, and started to braid her while she was on it.

"I am," Anna replied,

"But I genuinely don't know anything about him, probably because...

"I don't care to know the reason," the maid cut her off but with a smile,

"I'll gladly tell you who he is so that you can be terrified just like the rest of us. Judging by your age, I'm pretty sure you were a child when it first happened."

"What happened?" Anna asked, her voice dripped with curiosity.

The maid replied, her hand skillfully weaving through the Princess's hair,

"The reign of the demigod."

"It was years back, he was quite the terror, and he still is, to be honest. He demanded that the late King give him his daughter to be married and bear him sons, to which he agreed. But the King's daughter bore no child.

He got upset for something that wasn't the woman's fault. And to appease him, the King gave his second daughter against her wish, but the demigods killed her after she bore him a daughter.

He no longer wanted to be appeased and took his anger out on the villagers, sending a mighty storm that killed so many people and destroyed so many homes."

The maid paused as she finished the tip of the braid and started a new one,

"So," she continued,

"He also sent plague to the land, all animals died at the time, and so many locusts destroyed the crops."

"I don't know how the King managed to appease him at the time, but ever since then, he visits the castle once every two months, some people say it is for renewal of his contract with the King, but we don't know for sure."

"Hmm," Anna's heart was troubled as she heard this tale, she wondered why he couldn't make himself a son if he was such a demigod.

"Do you know what he looks like?" She asked.

"Handsome, too handsome is what I can say. You will see him for yourself today."
