Chapter 3 - Officer Amelia

5:30am, October 9th, 2024.

The sounds of car horns and sirens filled my ears as I got out of bed. Going to my bathroom for a quick bath, to prepare myself for today's stress.

"Time to get to work,"I muttered, putting on my office uniform and heading to my kitchen to make some toast and a cup of coffee.

I grabbed my walkie talkie on the table in the living room and wore my boots, going back to the kitchen to gobble my toast.

I poured my coffee into a cup and walked out of my house.

Locking my door and putting the keys in my pants pocket.

Walking down the stairs to get to my car while taking small sips of my coffee.

"Good morning officer."and elderly man greeted me with a smile. I took a short glance at him and continued my walk to my car.

"*Sigh, things are going to get busy now."I whispered, mainly to myself as i got to where I parked my car last night.

Unlocking it and going in, sighing for the nth time as my palm squeezed the steering.

After being promoted 4 times, I still can't arrest my 'dad'

How does he do it? I know he's the one who killed mom, but why can't I find any strong evidence against him.

I sighed and started the ignition, reversing and driving towards the destination of my station.

"Too bad for working everyday."I cursed under my breath as I parked my car, coming out and going into the station, right after I locked my car.

"Good morning officer,"some of my workers greeted me and I just nodded, walking straight to the captain's office.

Opening the door and going inside, sitting on his chair was Captain Nick. The head of our police department.

Ever since I joined the police dept, Captain Nick has been like a father to me. Teaching me, sometimes feeding me, his daughter, playing with me when I was down.

I only feel at home when I'm with her and Captain Nick.

"Good morning captain,"I saluted.

"Morning dear, how are you doing this fine morning?" Nick asked, speaking with all enthusiasm.

"As always, the usual me."I muttered, walking closer to his desk. Sitting down and waiting for my next mission.

"Hmm, I see."he rested his arm on the table and clasped his hands together. "Let's just get to the chase Lia. We've just gotten a report of theft in the New York city bank. Don't know much about the case but I'll ask Tilda to help you out."

I sighed, waiting for a new stress-filled chase.

"I know this is getting hard for you, I'll try to help out in some way or another. I'm always here for you."he assured but that wasn't my problem.

My problem was how I was going to get enough evidence against my father. I know he killed my mom but I don't have any solid evidence. And that was what was bothering me, and is still bothering me.

All my years of investigation, thorough investigation, I still can't find any clue.

That must mean I'm a bad cop, even though I've caught hundreds of criminals. It just feels so frustrating.

"That's fine captain. Just tell me when Matilda comes. I'll go ready my car."I muttered, standing up from my seat.

I'll just have Matilda investigate annd I'll do the chase.

With a nod, I left his office and went to mine, heaving a sigh of what I do not know exactly. I took my tool, my gun, my device so I would be able to communicate with the others and maybe Matilda.

This is basically a simple task for me, 4 times of promotion and more than a hundred criminals caught and still counting but I can't even find evidence since I started in the station.

I was about to take my things to the car when captain Nick called me.

"I just called Tilda, pick her up from her school on her way."

I nodded and walked off to my car. Turning on the ignition and heading to Matilda's school.

Matilda is just the opposite of myself, in introverted, she's extroverted. She's social, I'm not. She like parties, clubs, makeup, anything fun and noisy while I'm just boring, always focused on my work and nothing else.

I just like my quiet self, my quiet home, my quiet life and how anti social I am. No friends, no media, no attention, no problems.

Right now, what was on my mind was my dad. I know he's alive and I still know where he lives. I just needed to get evidence that he killed my mom, I'll be the most happiest person in the galaxy.

I pulled up at Matilda's school, she was waiting for me by the gate and jumped when she saw me.

"Officer Amelia!"she saluted, her high pitch voice almost breaking my ear drums. She hopped in and couldn't stop squealing. "May dad called, said there's a new report and I should accompany you."

Sometimes I wonder how Captain Nick lived in the same house as her when she was a kid, well, kid is understandably but right now. Ehh. If I was her mom, I'd beat the shit out of her and get rid of her noisy character.

"Yeah, just need you to track and I'll arrest,"i muttered, taking a turn to the right, driving to the destination of the bank.

"You're so boring Lia, you don't even smile. You know, you look pretty when you smile."Matilda grumbled, while typing on her laptop which she just brought out from her back pack.

Of course I was, with a traumatic childhood and a lonely teenage day, I couldn't blame myself.

And the worst part of it all was no one even cared to ask about how my mom died, my dad would just say 'she had a disease and she didn't tell us until it was too late' and they wouldn't say more, but at my teenage age, i knew it wasn't just a disease that could make her lie in her own blood.

And it isn't just a coincidence that when we left the house, she just had the disease and died. I knew and I still know that my dad belongs to a cult or something or maybe he doesn't love his family and wants to get rid of us but all I know is he was the one person who planned her death, even though he didn't kill her himself.

I still heard that faithfully day I was about leaving for college, he was clearly on the phone talking to some woman, I know, I know, 'i've killed her already and my daughter is about to go to schools so I have you all to myself '

That was the day I decided to be a cop and fight injustice, to make all criminals pay for their wrong deeds.

"Done!"Matilda exclaimed, bringing me out of my thoughts. "He lives downtown and he doesn't have any stable job. Today he's working in a small shop, next in the mechanics. But right now, he's at a place called Handy Wares, maybe a workshop or something. He stole the $80,000 from New York City bank this morning." She detailed and I frowned.

If you don't have a job, why not have a skill? People in this town are so fucked up.

" Alright, let's do our job then." I muttered and headed for Handy Ware. " Do we have a picture?"

" Yup, pretty ugly."Matilda said with a disgusted tone.

I don't care whether he's fine or not, I just want to get this over with and go home and rest, maybe if I'm given a patrol, I'd rest in my car.
