Chereads / Revenge of the fallen angels / Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

It was the middle of the night when Alison was awakened by a noise coming from the basement. Jack wasn't with her, so she figured it was him doing something, since he didn't need sleep to function during the day. To be sure, she decided to check it out, so she went downstairs, taking a heavy object with her in case she required something for self-defense. Now that she wasn't an angel, she didn't have any powers, so she was just as weak as other people. She required strength and dexterity to deal with her attacker.

She pressed on the handle, but the basement door was locked. Furthermore, she was frightened when she heard the noise coming from downstairs again. She put her ear to the door and focused on any sounds. She opened her eyes wide when she heard a quiet muttering.

What if it was Jack? He was a fallen angel, but he had worthy opponents. Raphael was also strong, and since Jack had decided to protect Alison, he had drawn his ire. Now they were enemies, and she could expect anything from him. Even as an angelic son, he was not one of the most loyal guards. That's why he so easily descended to the dark side, by the way, dragging Jack with him, whom he tricked into thinking that this would allow him to form a relationship with his beloved. No hiding, no bans....

They tried to do the same with Alison, but in due course she realized that she was betraying God, so she turned them in. She could no longer be an accomplice, hiding the crimes they were committing. By doing so, she was giving up being an angel, betraying the others, who were children of God.

Maybe that's why Jack forgave her? Perhaps he finally understood why she acted this way? After all, she didn't betray them for her own sake, she did it for a good cause. She wanted to protect Jack from committing more crimes, as she and Rafael terrorized the entire town. They crept into the heads of the residents and messed with their minds, causing people to kill each other and others to commit suicide. Raphael was allied with demons who could not appear on earth, so they needed angels who would turn away from God to fulfill their whims.

From the basement, she heard muttering again. She had the impression that someone was trying to shout, but something was preventing them from doing so. She looked around the room, searching for a way to open the door. If she were an angel and still had powers, everything would be much simpler. As a human, she was rather average.

We'll see how much strength is left in me, she thought, stretching her muscles. She shook her shoulders and tried her best to hit the door with her foot with all her strength. She hoped the lock would let go, and she would be able to get inside. The door didn't look solidly made, rather it was poorly fastened, given its poor condition.

She didn't succeed the first time, but she noticed that the hinge from the handle let go a bit. Only after the second kick did the door open, and she rubbed her hands together, satisfied with her strength. However, she was not as weak as she looked.

She rushed downstairs and stood as still as a brick when she noticed who was in the basement. Tied to a chair, Henry was lying on the floor with tape taped to his mouth, and opposite him was painted a sign that weakened angels and took away their powers. Alison remembered this guardian very well. He was the one who was most suspicious of her and Jack. He watched them after he once caught the lovers embracing each other. Love between angels was strictly forbidden by the Archangels. They could not be in a relationship because they were created to protect humans, so nothing else could distract them. She and Jack were the only ones who broke this prohibition.

They were tired of hiding all the time, so Jack started looking for a way they could be together. That's why he made a deal to go to the dark side and dragged her with him, reiterating that once they lost their halo, then no one would control them.

At first, Alison followed him, not seeing the world outside of him, but eventually, she realized what was happening and couldn't stand it. She was too good to watch someone else's pain.

Now she was standing over an angel who had caused them a lot of trouble. She didn't understand why Jack kept Henry in the basement, but he had always hated him. He must have had a reason, and the girl was going to find out.

She set him down along with the chair and peeled the tape from his mouth, and he looked at her with semi-conscious eyes. Because of the mark drawn on the wall, he was very weakened, fatigue was visible on his face.

- Alison," he said quietly, and she squinted, looking at him carefully. Although she had never liked him because he caused trouble, he was a son of God and she could not hate him.

- Why is Jack keeping you here? - She asked, crossing her arms on her chest. - I won't say it's nice to see you because I've never been fond of you. I remember the last time bringing Jack out, you were willing to become his guard. I know I turned him in myself, but I did it for a good cause, and you always wanted to see him fall. I'm not surprised that he finally got you.

- What did he do to you? - He asked in a weak voice, and Alison shrugged her shoulders.

- He forgave me. Probably that time confined did its job, and he stopped his revenge when he realized that I wanted to do right by him.

- That's not what I mean. He took away all your memories. When you were human, you trusted me," he whispered. - I protected you, Alison. I wanted you to be safe and stay away from Jack. He pulls the wool over your eyes, that's why he keeps me here. He didn't want me to be an obstacle to his revenge. Jack has not forgiven you, he still wants to destroy you.

- Stop it! - She raised her voice, looking at him with piercing eyes. - If he wanted to do that, he would have gotten rid of me long ago. He really forgave me, he understood that I did it for his sake.

- So, why did he take away all your memories since you were reborn as a human being? Alison, many things happened during that time, and as a human, you didn't fully trust him. He knew that when he regained the old you, you would forget everything that had taken place and believe in his miraculous transformation because you love him very much! - he said, raising his voice at her.

Out of anger, she clenched her fists and bit her lip.

- I know him. I can see that he has changed. He is not the same as when he was consumed by darkness. I managed to save him. He loves me and would never be able to hurt me. You were always against us and scheming what to do to make life difficult for us! - she shouted, and Henry shook his head. - Jack regrets what he did and tries to protect me from Rafael. Stop messing with my head because he's the one I trust, not you. I never had any sympathy for you, I only respected you because we were children of God.

- He will hurt you, Alison. This was planned from the beginning. He's not your Jack anymore. Since he committed all these crimes he has shed his feelings. He doesn't love you, he only harbors a desire for revenge. You have to believe me," he said quietly, but the girl was not going to listen. She was furious that he spoke about her beloved in such a way. Maybe Jack actually wasn't as innocent as before when he was an angel, but she still saw him as the same man.

- If that were the case, he wouldn't have kept you in the same house. After all, he would be afraid that I would find you and tell me the truth, so stop lying. It's not right for an angel to do so, it's a sin.

- I don't lie, Alison. I never did. This is all an ambush. He pretends to be innocent, and it's all a plan. He knows perfectly well that you won't believe me. That's what this is all about," he announced, and she snorted under her breath. - The darkest is after the lantern.

- Oh no. I won't let you mess with my head. I trust Jack and I know he loves me. Rot in this place, I don't care what he does with you. You deserved the worst," she said through clenched teeth.

She left the basement and returned to the bedroom, but Jack was still not there. She lay down on the bed and, staring at the ceiling, contemplated Henry's words. Maybe there was a grain of truth in it, but she wasn't going to believe it.

She didn't want to.

She lifted her eyelids, feeling a pleasant touch on her face. She smiled at the sight of Jack leaning over her. He was incredibly handsome and had belonged to her for centuries.

She was the only woman he wanted, and he was the only man she loved. There was an unpleasant period in their lives that separated the lovers, but they were able to be together again, trying to rebuild what they had lost. She believed that he would never allow her to be hurt. They shared an incredible feeling that had lasted for centuries, and besides, he had promised repeatedly that he would never let her go, that she would always belong to him....

- You are so beautiful when you sleep. Now as a human woman, you are vulnerable and innocent. I feel like protecting you even more than when you were an angel," he whispered, looking at her with caring eyes. He stroked her cheek with his thumb, and she smiled again.

It reminded her of the times when they were happiest. They were both angels, hiding from others to protect affection. For many centuries, they managed to do this, however, since they were caught by Henry, things began to get complicated. They were afraid that he would eventually report them to the Archangels, so Jack began to look for a way to prevent them from being separated. He had a right to hate him, as did Alison.

- The most beautiful sight is you waking me up in the morning," she said quietly, looking at his handsome face. Jack sent the girl a charming smile, then leaned in more and kissed her on the lips. She felt a pleasant tingling in her stomach. There were pleasant chills on her body, caused by his touch, but this beautiful moment was interrupted by Rafael's loud voice from outside.

- Bravo, Jack! You locked the princess in a house I have no entrance to! Let's see how long you keep her there! Her parents are dead, and her grandparents are still searching, so your princess will eventually have to get out of there! She won't last long!

Shocked, she looked at Jack, in whom a slight embarrassment appeared. He moved away from her, so the brunette rose on her elbows, looking at him suspiciously.

- What parents? What is he talking about?

- Rafael killed your parents, so I took away your memories, that's why you don't remember anything from when you were human. I apologize, but I wanted to spare you the pain of losing them," he explained, and the girl opened her eyes wider. She felt that something was wrong, especially since she couldn't remember by what means she had freed Jack from that place. Was he hiding something else? - Alison, you have to stay here. He is trying to provoke us. I'll be right back to you and explain everything to you," he said, walking to the door. - Just don't move from here, okay?

Jack left the room, and she went to the window and noticed an amused Rafael, who was standing in the middle of the yard, staring out the window from the bedroom.

Spotting Alison, he nodded to her and sent her a provocative kiss.

What if there was more truth in what Henry was saying? Perhaps Jack didn't take away her memories just so she wouldn't suffer after losing her parents? Perhaps there was more at stake here....
