Chapter 2 - Geovanni Is Just A Decoy And The True Boss Of Team Rocket Is My Father!?

---

"Where am I?"

Zephyr groaned, sitting up on the bed. His body felt weak. Memories began to flood his mind.

"Wait, wasn't I watching Pokémon just now?"

The last thing he remembered was spilling soda on his computer. After that? Nothing.

"Am I... reborn?"

He glanced around. The familiar sight of Pallet Town came into focus—Ash Ketchum's hometown.

Memories of his new life intertwined with his own. Zephyr's father lived with him here, and just days ago, on his tenth birthday, his dad had handed him an empty Pokéball. His instructions? Catch a Pokémon on his own.

"What kind of nonsense is this?" Zephyr muttered, frowning. "Shouldn't Professor Oak be handing out starters like Bulbasaur or Charmander?"

---

[ Ding! Host has triggered the Villain System. ]

Zephyr froze.

[ Scanning... Host information detected. ]

[ Host: Zephyr

Identity: Son of Team Rocket's true leader (Giovanni is a decoy).

Pokémon: None

Points: Zero ]

"A system?" Zephyr muttered, blinking in disbelief.

[ Task: Catch your first Pokémon (Evil-type). As the future villain, you must begin with a fitting partner. Reward: 100 points. ]

Zephyr's eyes widened. "Wait, Team Rocket's leader... Giovanni's just a figurehead? And my father is the real boss?"

His thoughts were interrupted by a voice outside.

---

"Zephyr, are you awake?"

The door creaked open. A middle-aged man stepped in. His greasy hair and scruffy beard gave him a rugged look. He wore dusty overalls, more fitting for a farmer than a criminal mastermind.

Zephyr stared. This guy is supposed to be Team Rocket's true leader?

"Yeah, I just woke up," Zephyr said hesitantly.

His father grinned. "Good. The Pokéball I gave you is still empty, right? Go catch a Pokémon. When I was your age, I'd already caught twenty."

He lit a cigarette, his gaze sharp. "You won't learn anything staying here. Go out, find something strong, and start your journey."

Zephyr bit his lip. His body still ached from being attacked by Beedrill yesterday. Now his father wanted him out again?

Before Zephyr could respond, his father gave him a firm pat on the shoulder and left.

---

[ Ding! Growth task activated. ]

[ Task: Capture a Gastly. As a fitting villain, the host's first Pokémon must match their dark path. Reward: 100 points. ]

"Gastly, huh?" Zephyr smirked.

Memories of the night before surfaced. That Gastly had scared the life out of him but was the perfect choice. Ghost and Poison—a combination with great potential. Once it evolved into Gengar, it'd be a true powerhouse.

"Alright," Zephyr muttered, grabbing the Pokéball from his desk. "Let's catch that Gastly."

###

Viridian Forest, outskirts of Pallet Town.

Zephyr was walking along a muddy path, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings. His expression was calm but determined. Today, he was going to capture that Gastly from last night.

In Zephyr's memory, Gastly rarely came out during the day. It feared sunlight, preferring the shadows of the night. The anime even mentioned that in cities full of bright lights, Gastly populations were nearly extinct. That was why Zephyr chose to come out during the day.

"It's daylight now. If I find it, it won't be as aggressive. But if I wait until night, it'll attack from the shadows. One lick from that cold tongue, and I'll be too weak to fight back," Zephyr muttered.

His gaze fell on the bushes ahead. Rattata darted nervously between them, their tiny forms disappearing quickly. On the trees, Caterpie and Weedle clung to the branches, moving sluggishly.

[System activated: Detected Pokémon nearby.]

Zephyr's eyes lit up. "This system is incredible—like a radar for nearby Pokémon."

It provided precise details: the Pokémon's species, abilities, and even an evaluation of their strength. The combat power metric was especially helpful, giving him insight into which Pokémon would be worth training.

As he ventured deeper into the forest, Zephyr spotted something unusual—a dilapidated, abandoned house hidden within the trees.

He smiled. "Perfect. Gastly loves dark, secluded places like ruins or caves during the day. This has to be where it's hiding."

Approaching the broken-down structure cautiously, Zephyr noticed a faint purple glow flickering inside. His grin widened. "There you are."

[System activated: Detected Pokémon nearby.]

[10 meters away: Gastly

Type: Ghost/Poison Pokémon

Description: Born from cemetery gases, Gastly's form is a floating ball of gas. It often causes paralysis with its presence.

Skills: Lick, Hypnosis, Spite, Mean Look

Combat Power: 20 points]

"Not too strong," Zephyr muttered. "This is perfect for a first capture."

Gastly, though tricky to handle, had great potential. It just needed proper training.

Zephyr kicked open the door of the abandoned house. The wood creaked as sunlight poured inside, illuminating the dark corners.

Gastly hissed in irritation. The sunlight burned against its gaseous body, forcing it to retreat deeper into the house.

Zephyr smirked, tossing a small rock at one of the windows. "Hey, you! You're the one who scared me last night, right? Payback time. I'm here to catch you."

Gastly growled, its form shifting as it tried to stay hidden in the shadows.

Zephyr held up a Poké Ball. "See this? Either you enter willingly, or I'll keep this sunlight coming. Your choice."

He began tearing away wooden boards, letting more light stream into the building. Gastly flinched, its gaseous form quivering. The sunlight was too much. It hissed one last time before retreating into the Poké Ball Zephyr had left on the floor.

The ball shook once, twice, then stopped.

[System notification: Congratulations, host! You have successfully captured Gastly. Reward: 1,000 points. Point Shop unlocked.]

[Special reward: First Pokémon captured. Poké Ball modified with the System's power. Your Pokémon can now absorb energy from others to grow stronger.]

Zephyr's eyebrows shot up. "Absorb energy? That's new."

He released Gastly from the Poké Ball to inspect it. The ghostly Pokémon floated in front of him, its sinister grin as mischievous as ever.

[Updated data: Gastly

Type: Ghost/Poison Pokémon

Skills: Lick, Hypnosis, Spite, Mean Look

Special Ability: Devour—absorbs energy from other Pokémon to grow stronger.

Combat Power: 20 points]

Zephyr grinned. "Devour, huh? Looks like you've got some hidden potential. Let's see how far we can take you."

Gastly's grin grew wider, as if it understood.

"Alright, partner. Let's get to work."
