Chapter 67 - Chapter 67

Valeria's POV

The light that had emerged from within me felt foreign at first, like a forgotten language that I had to relearn. It pulsed through my veins, spreading warmth into the cold, dark void I had been trapped in. The shadows recoiled, like a beast scared of the light. But I didn't feel safe. The Trial hadn't relinquished its grip on me. The darkness was still there, swirling around the edges, taunting me.

I could feel Adrian's presence now—stronger than ever. It was like his energy was intertwined with mine, pulling me forward, out of the suffocating shadows. His voice was an anchor in the chaos, his words echoing in my mind. "I'm not giving up on you, Valeria."

The shadows screeched in protest as I moved closer to him. Every step I took toward Adrian felt like walking on the edge of a cliff, my feet unsure, the abyss threatening to pull me back into its grasp. But with each breath, with each inch forward, the light inside me grew stronger. The darkness seemed to lose its hold.

"I'm here," Adrian's voice said again, now right beside me. His presence was undeniable, like a beacon in the storm. I reached for him, my fingers trembling as they brushed against his. The moment our hands connected, the dark mist around me seemed to recoil, as though the mere touch of our combined power was too much for it to bear.

His eyes met mine, burning with intensity. There was no fear in his gaze—only a quiet strength that made me realize just how much I had come to depend on him. He had been a part of my world, my life, for so long now that I couldn't imagine facing any of this without him.

"You've always been strong," Adrian said softly, his voice steady as ever. "You've been through worse, Valeria. This… this is just another test. But you won't face it alone."

I nodded, taking in a shaky breath. The darkness still loomed, but with Adrian beside me, I felt an undeniable surge of courage. It was as though his confidence in me had reignited something deep within my soul—a spark I had nearly forgotten. I had been hiding for too long, afraid to confront the truth of who I really was, but now… now I had to face it.

A low rumble echoed through the void, a reminder that the Trial wasn't finished with us yet. The shadows around us twisted violently, and the figure—the one that had spoken in my mind, the one I knew was part of the Trial—emerged once more. But this time, I wasn't afraid.

"You think you can escape?" the figure hissed, its voice venomous, dripping with disdain. It towered over us, its form twisting and shifting, flickering in and out of existence, but its eyes—its eyes were constant, dark, like black holes that sucked in everything around them.

"No," I said firmly, stepping forward, my power flaring with defiance. "I won't escape. I'm facing it. I'm facing everything."

The Trial—this being, this force—seemed to falter for a moment, as if taken aback by my resolve. The shadows around us thickened, and the air crackled with a sudden surge of malevolent energy. But the darkness, this creature, wasn't what I feared anymore. The real trial was within me—the one I had been running from for so long. It was time to stop hiding.

I took Adrian's hand again, squeezing it tightly as the shadows writhed around us. The temperature dropped, the air grew heavy, and the figure's form loomed closer, its presence suffocating.

"You think this will be enough?" it sneered, its voice like the rasp of metal scraping against stone. "You think your love, your bond with him, will save you? You're weak, Celestial. You're a prisoner to your own guilt."

The words struck me like a physical blow, but I didn't flinch. The creature was right. I was weak, once. I had built walls around myself—walls of lies, of avoidance, of denial. I had told myself that the power I held was the only thing that mattered. I had sacrificed so much, all in the name of survival. But now, Adrian had shown me something else—something that went beyond mere survival. He had shown me the possibility of living.

"I'm not weak," I said, my voice steady despite the tempest inside. "I've faced worse than this. You don't know me."

A deep, resonating laugh filled the void, and the shadows closed in tighter. But this time, I wasn't alone. Adrian stood beside me, unwavering, and I could feel the bond between us strengthening with each passing second. The light inside me had been kindled, and I wouldn't let it fade again.

The figure's expression twisted with rage, its features distorting into a grotesque mask of fury. "Then face it, Celestial," it spat. "Face the truth within you. You cannot hide from it anymore."

I felt it—the truth. It slammed into me, an overwhelming flood of memories, emotions, and regrets. The faces of those I had hurt, the choices I had made, the lies I had told to protect myself from the storm inside. My power—my curse—wasn't just a gift. It was a burden. It was my undoing.

But then, as the flood of truth surged through me, something else happened. I wasn't alone in it. Adrian's presence—his unwavering support—grounded me. I could feel his love, his belief in me, and it steadied me. The truth was harsh, but I could handle it. I didn't have to face it in isolation anymore. Not with Adrian at my side.

The shadows recoiled again, their form flickering. The Trial wasn't as strong as it had been when it first appeared. The figure's form seemed to be unraveling, its power weakening in the face of our united strength.

"You cannot defeat me, Celestial," it hissed, but its voice was weaker now, trembling with uncertainty. "I am the Trial. I am your reckoning."

"No," I said firmly, my voice a steady declaration. "You're just a part of it. The Trial is within me. And I'll face it—all of it."

The shadows began to dissolve, the darkness lifting as I confronted the truth of my power, my choices, and the person I had become. The figure let out a final, anguished scream before it evaporated into the void, leaving nothing behind but the stillness of the air.

I exhaled slowly, the tension in my body finally beginning to release. Adrian's hand tightened in mine, his thumb brushing the back of my hand gently, grounding me. I was still shaking, my body exhausted from the weight of everything I had just faced. But I wasn't defeated.

"You did it," Adrian said, his voice soft but full of awe. "We did it."

I nodded, my breath coming in uneven gasps. "Yeah," I whispered. "We did."

The void around us had begun to fade, the edges of the darkness melting away into light. I could feel the energy of the Trial shifting, no longer suffocating, but slowly releasing its grip on me. The world I had known—my world—was returning. And I was still standing...
