Chapter 1 - Reborn

Earth.

In a dimly lit room, a young man, barely twenty-one, sat hunched over his PC. His long black hair fell untidily over his forehead, and his dull gray eyes were glued to the screen.

"Damn it! Another 50/50 lost!" he shouted, slamming his mouse against the desk. In his frustration, the mouse slipped from his grasp and struck the monitor. A small dent appeared on the screen, distorting the image. The impact caused the monitor to wobble precariously before tipping backward and disappearing behind the table.

He didn't even glance at it.

For the past 24 hours, he'd been glued to the game, running on nothing but adrenaline and an unhealthy dose of obsession. Now, even anger couldn't keep him going. His limbs felt heavy, his eyelids drooping as exhaustion washed over him like a tidal wave.

With a final, shallow breath, he slumped forward, the weight of his fatigue dragging him into darkness.

He didn't wake up.

Not on Earth, at least.

Douluo Continent, Near Border of Star Luo Empire, Sun Moon Empire

Camp of Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion, it is one of the major legion of Sun Moon Empire entirely composed on females.

Near the camp is a small forest valley.

Suddenly, a streak of light shot down from the sky, illuminating the camp. Instantly, everyone in the Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion was on high alert.

Inside the commander's tent, an old woman with sharp, hawk-like eyes gazed in the direction of the phenomenon. Her expression remained calm, but her aura commanded authority.

"Shu Qiu," she called out in a deep, measured voice.

In response to her summons, a middle-aged woman clad in tightly fitted red armor appeared in an instant. She exuded an air of competence and discipline, standing straight as she bowed deeply. Shu Qiu was not just any soldier; she was the most trusted subordinate of Commander Luan Feng, the legendary leader of the Phoenix Soul Engineer Legion.

"Commander, you called?" Shu Qiu's voice was firm yet respectful.

"Investigate the source of that light," Luan Feng ordered, her gaze still fixed on the spot where the light had vanished. "If it's an enemy, eliminate them immediately."

"Understood, Commander." Without hesitation, Shu Qiu bowed again and left the tent, asking no unnecessary questions.

It took her only five minutes to return. However, she wasn't alone. In her arms, she carried a little child wrapped in a bundle of simple cloth. The child seemed to radiate an ethereal aura, otherworldly and pure, as though it didn't belong in the mortal realm. Its eyes were shut tight, and it appeared to be peacefully sleeping.

Luan Feng's eyes narrowed slightly as she rose from her chair, her imposing figure radiating power and wisdom accumulated over decades.

"Commander, I found no threats or signs of enemies," Shu Qiu reported, her voice tinged with embarrassment. "When I reached the light's location, several soldiers had already gathered. All we found was… this child."

She stepped forward, presenting the infant to Luan Feng.

The old woman studied the child intently, her sharp gaze scanning for any clues. She could sense something extraordinary about the infant, though she couldn't quite put it into words. The memory of the dazzling light from the sky lingered in her mind, stirring faint, half-formed suspicions.

Luan Feng glanced upwards briefly but dismissed the thought. She was a pragmatic woman. A lifetime of experience, as one of the oldest members of the Sun Moon Empire, had taught her to scoff at myths of gods or divine interventions.

Still, her gaze softened as she looked at the child. He was as delicate and flawless as a pearl, his peaceful face exuding a strange sense of calm. Luan Feng, who had never married nor borne children, felt an unexpected tug at her heart. Though she had no desire to be a mother, the idea of adopting this child as her grandchild began to take root.

"I will take care of him," she declared, stepping forward to take the infant from Shu Qiu's arms.

Shu Qiu offered no resistance, relieved that her commander had decided so quickly. She had two sons of her own and was content with her role in the Legion. Adding another child to her responsibilities was far from her mind.

Luan Feng cradled the child in her arms, a rare smile gracing her weathered face.

"Let's name him Luan Ningxue," she said softly, the unfamiliar warmth in her voice surprising even herself. It had been many years since she last felt this way—perhaps even decades.

For the first time in a long while, Luan Feng smiled not as a commander but as a human being.

While the child, now named Luan Ningxue, slept peacefully, his mind drifted into a vivid dream.

In the dream, he was someone else—a boy named Xue. Xue was the only child of his family, spoiled from a young age and accustomed to getting everything he wanted. His parents showered him with love and never denied his wishes, leading him to believe life would always be that way.

But Xue had never truly appreciated his parents. Their sacrifices, their care—all of it had seemed like an unending fountain of comfort to him. His grandmother had often scolded him gently, trying to instill in him the importance of gratitude and responsibility.

"Xue, you must learn to take care of your parents as they do for you," she had said. "And not just your parents—anyone who shows you kindness deserves your gratitude. One day, you'll understand."

That lesson only sank in after tragedy struck. His parents were killed in a car accident, and Xue was left to fend for himself. In his darkest moments, he realized how much he had taken for granted. The relatives who had helped him in the past, the friends he'd ignored, and the countless kindnesses he had dismissed—all of it weighed on him like a mountain of regret.

But when he sought help, no one came. Isolated and grieving, Xue turned to games, immersing himself in virtual worlds to escape his loneliness. For two years, he lost himself in gaming, playing endlessly with barely any rest, his real-life connections slipping further away.

He recalled the last time he had fallen asleep after one of his marathon gaming sessions. In his sleep, he encountered an ethereal figure.

"I caught you from the reincarnation channel," the figure had said, its voice echoing with a strange, soothing authority. "I hope—no, I want you to succeed in inheriting my legacy. I will bestow upon you my greatest creation. Carry it forward. This is the dying wish of an old man."

The figure paused, its form shimmering faintly. Then it added, "This will also help you in the future."

With a snap of its fingers, a brilliant white light pierced through Xue's body.

Luan Ningxue's eyes snapped open.

He blinked, disoriented, as he took in his surroundings. The ceiling above him was impossibly high, unlike anything he had seen before. The room had a rustic feel, its atmosphere entirely different from the modern world he remembered.

Looking up, he saw an old woman with wrinkles lining her face. Despite her age, her expression was warm and kind, radiating a comforting aura. She noticed his awakening and leaned closer, her eyes soft with affection.

"My grandson, you're awake," she said, her voice filled with gentle authority. "I will call you Luan Ningxue, okay? I don't know where you came from, but don't worry—I will take care of you from now on."

She smiled, reaching for a nearby bottle filled with milk and capped with a small nipple.

"Here, drink this. It's milk from a hundred-year-old Mountain Goat. I wanted to find a wet nurse for you, but we're on the border, and it will take time. For now, this milk will do just fine."

Her words carried an unfamiliar tenderness.
