A New Day
The morning sunlight streamed through the classroom curtains, casting a warm glow. Outside, the chirping of birds mingled with the gentle breeze, filling the campus with a serene and beautiful atmosphere. Su Feiyan took a deep breath of the fresh air, feeling a wave of clarity wash over him. All the worries that had troubled him the night before seemed to be carried away by the morning wind.
As he walked into the classroom, he instinctively felt his way to his seat. The air carried a faint scent of sunlight, and he knew that today would be a brand-new day.
"Good morning."
Hearing that soft, gentle voice, Su Feiyan couldn't help but smile faintly. "Good morning."
It was Lin Xi, as expected. She always arrived earlier than him—it had become something of a habit. He put down his bag, carefully taking out his Braille textbook to prepare for the morning reading session. But as he reached into the desk drawer, his fingers brushed against something unexpected.
A bag? It was soft and slightly heavy. He paused, his fingers moving over the uneven shapes: a pack of jelly, a bag of candies, and a box of… yogurt?
"What is this…" Su Feiyan murmured, carefully taking the items out and placing them on the desk. His heart filled with curiosity. These snacks had clearly been prepared for him, but by whom? He had never received a gift like this at school—not even at the school for the blind. Other than his family or his piano teacher, no one had ever gone out of their way to give him anything.
While he was lost in thought, someone gently poked his arm.
"I left them there," said a soft voice.
It was Lin Xi.
Su Feiyan froze for a moment, surprised that the answer was her. He turned toward her, silently waiting for her to continue.
"I didn't know what kind of snacks you like… so I just bought the ones I like," Lin Xi said softly, her voice as light as the wind. As she spoke, she unconsciously lowered her head, tracing circles on the desk with her finger, as if unsure where to place her hands due to her nervousness.
Warmth surged through Su Feiyan's chest, but before he could respond, Lin Xi quickly added, "Also… if you have any trouble with math, you can ask me."
Having said this, she seemed to have used up all her courage, growing even more bashful. She didn't dare look at Su Feiyan and kept her gaze fixed on the desk, a faint blush blooming on her cheeks.
Su Feiyan was momentarily speechless. He knew that some boys had received surprises from girls before, but he had never imagined he'd experience it himself. He pursed his lips, wanting to say something, but it felt as though his throat was blocked. He lowered his head, gently feeling the candy bag with his fingers, and finally managed to say in a low voice, "Thank you."
He opened the bag of candy, took out a piece, and popped it into his mouth. Sweet! Unbelievably sweet. This candy seemed to carry a special kind of magic, filling his entire heart with warmth.
"Back at the school for the blind, I used to envy the boys who got surprises like this. But now, this candy makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world," he thought.
Sensing that Lin Xi was still anxiously waiting for his reaction, Su Feiyan took a deep breath and said, "It's really good."
Lin Xi, hearing this, lowered her head and softly replied, "Mm." A subtle smile seemed to play on her lips.
In that moment, even the air seemed to grow soft. Su Feiyan let the candy's sweetness dissolve slowly in his mouth, then pulled out his math textbook. He found himself more focused on studying than ever before. Every math problem seemed to speak to him gently, as if they, too, had been transformed by Lin Xi's care into something less daunting.
"Today's energy is through the roof," he thought.
The Afternoon Rehearsal
The morning classes passed quickly, and Su Feiyan's notebook was filled with pages of Braille notes. As his fingers ran over the pages, mentally reviewing the key points, he couldn't help but feel excited about the afternoon's rehearsal.
Inside the auditorium, the bright stage lights illuminated the space as staff members busily adjusted the equipment. The piano had been moved to the center of the stage, its lid slightly open, with the keys reflecting the warm glow of the lights. Su Feiyan sat down at the piano, confidently feeling for the keys. He played a few melodies, listening as the sound technician asked, "Is the sound okay? Do you need a microphone?"
"The sound is great. Let's keep it this way," the music teacher said with a smile, standing nearby.
Other students responsible for different performances moved back and forth, testing microphones and adjusting sound systems, creating a lively but orderly atmosphere in the auditorium. Though the rehearsal didn't take long, Su Feiyan felt a strong sense of ceremony about it all.
Once everyone had confirmed their roles, the rehearsal wrapped up quickly. Su Feiyan left the auditorium, silently making a promise to himself: "Tonight, I must give my best performance. I can't let anyone down."
