As Sokka and I walked to the village, he asked, "So, are you a bender or something?" I looked at him and responded, "Yes, I am. I don't have much training because my parents and grandparents weren't benders." He looked at me and said, "Huh, just like my sister." "You have a sister, and she's a bender? I thought all the Southern Water Tribe benders were captured. That's what the royal family said, anyway. I always hoped they were wrong."
"Yep, but they did kill my mother in their search," he said. I looked down and said, "I'm sorry for your loss." "Thanks. My dad left to fight in the Earth Kingdom about two years ago," he said with a sad smile and continued, "We miss him every day. Now it's just me, Katara, and our grandmother."
"Should I expect a not so friendly response to my arrival to the village?" I asked. He thought and said "Maybe but as long as you prove that you can be trusted then you should be okay... probably". I looked at him and said "that's not very comforting you know". "Sorry but it's true" he replied.
As we arrived at his igloo his sister came out and proceeded to attack me with water. I didn't even dodge I figured it would help them trust me more. "Katara wait he comes in peace" Sokka said. "He's from the Fire Nation why are you not pointing your spear at him" she said.
"I did and he didn't resist and he is on the run from the Fire Nation because he didn't agree with them about the war" he said. "It's true I have no loyalty to the Fire Lord he could drop dead and die for all I care" I said. "Then why are you here, why not go to the Earth Kingdom?" she asked. "Because I thought I could help some of the people who have suffered because of this atrocious war, I figured that I would start with the Southern Water Tribe because of the raids" I said.
She lowered her arms and the water receding. "You're too stiff with your movements by the way" I said. "What?" She asked. "Your movements they are to stiff you need to be more loose" I replied. Sokka looked at me and asked "how do you know that ". "I had some water bending scrolls before I had to run but I enjoyed studying them" I answered.
"Do you know any techniques that I could use?" She asked. I thought and said "I know more about some of the sources of water and water bending theories than techniques but I'm happy to help any way I can". "Don't worry I want to help any way I can" I said.
Two Months Later
After two months, I have been accepted by the village by helping out around. Also helping Katara with her water bending she will still need a proper master but it should help her out in the long run. I have also helped fortify the village as well.
I was meditating in my tent when gran gran asked to speak with me. "Child me and my grandchildren would like to speak with you if you would be so kind" she said in a soft and kind voice. I got up and replied "ok must be important if all of you need to be there". "Yes it is please come to our igloo when you have a chance" she said with a warm smile. I walked into the igloo to speak with them little did I know how much it would change my life in this new world.
"Zen thanks for coming we have some good news for you" Sokka said. I raised an eyebrow and replied "and what news is that my friend". Katara, Sokka and Gran Gran looked at one another with warm smiles on there faces then gran gran spoke "we decided to adopt you into the family". My eyebrows shot up in surprise I then asked "what?". "It's true Zen me, Katara and gran gran talked about it and we decided to make you part of the family these past few months you have helped not just the village, but also our family in so many ways" said Sokka. "You helped me improve my water bending and with chores around the village and you have been nothing but kind, compassionate and loving to our family and everyone in the village I would love to call you brother Zen" Katara said. With a teary eyes and a warm smile I said "I would love to be apart of your family nothing would make me happier in the whole world".
"Then welcome to the family my grandson" Gran Gran said pulling me and my new siblings into a warm hug. After that there was a lot of hugs and tears afterward we went outside to share the good new with the rest of the village. There was much congratulations and well wishes, as well as welcoming me to the tribe. I cried more than a few tears of joy that day because it has been a long time since I felt the love of a family and now that I had a family I had even more reason to fight to end this war.
One Month Later
It has been a month since my adoption into the Southern Water Tribe and into Katara and Sokka"s Family, I have since then upped my training to be able to fight to end this war. I've been preparing a lot of supplies for the journey and helping Katara with her water bending so she can protect herself.
Right now me, Katara and Sokka are currently spear fishing. "Zen, Katara watch and learn how it's done" Sokka said. This caused me and Karara to shake our heads and roll our eyes at his attempts to prove his masculinity. Katara then took off her gloves and started water bending a sphere of water with a fish in the center which caused her to say "Zen, Sokka look". "You've gotten better good job" I said. "Shh you'll scare dinner, I can almost smell it cooking" he said. "But I caught one" she said. after that Sokka pulled back his spear right as the water ball was over his head causing it to pop getting him wet and to make me laugh at him. "Why is it every time you play with magic water I get soaked and Zen laughs" he said. "It isn't magic it is an..." she said before he interrupted by saying "Yeah, Yeah it's an ancient art native to out tribe, I just wish you could keep your weirdness away from me". "Your calling me weird I'm not the one who flexes every time I see my reflection" she said as he was doing us that. I piped up and said "she has a point I'm in better shape than you and not even I do that.
Before anyone could say anything we ended up getting pulled into a water current Katara then told Sokka "Left, left, go left". To which he didn't listen to her resulting in us getting stuck on an ice raft and wrecking our canoe he then said "figures leave it to a girl to ruin everything". Which ended up infuriating Katara before she started yelling at Sokka saying "You are the most sexist ... immature ... I'm embarrassed to be related to you" while flinging her arms back and forth causing the iceberg behind us to start cracking he saw this and said "Katara calm down" trying to cool her off to no success. I just kept my mouth shut because I knew one she got going nothing could stop her until she was done. "No from now on you are on your own" she yelled throwing her arms back one last time causing the iceberg to finally break. "You've gone from weird to freaky Katara" Sokka said. "You mean I did that" she said. "Yeah that was scary, but very impressive" I said. Right in front of me and my adopted siblings was an iceberg with a giant six-legged creature and a boy in the lotus position with glowing arrow tattoos and then he suddenly opened his eyes and at that moment I thought to my self 'it has begun'.
