Chapter 5 - Chakra Perception

"Taijutsu and Water Release are my current strengths."

"Although I got the Genjutsu Basics and improved chakra control, genjutsu isn't my forte. The next step should be focusing more on Earth Release..."

Kyōichi planned silently.

The genjutsu reward was an unexpected bonus, not enough to be included in his main plans.

Earth Release was more important.

While Water Release was strong, it had geographical limitations.

Earth Release was essential to master.

Of course.

There was another important reason—

To be promoted to jonin, mastering two nature transformations was a prerequisite.

Otherwise, even with enough merit, Kyōichi could only become a tokubetsu jonin.

To secure a position in Konoha, being just a tokubetsu jonin wasn't enough.

Kyōichi stood at the doorway.

The Kanda family house was large, but there weren't many residents.

His parents died in the Second Ninja World War, and his grandmother had passed away years ago.

However.

There were still some "treasures" inside—

Some scrolls his grandmother had left behind.

The Senju clan was generous; when clan members married outsiders, they were allowed to take some items as dowry.

Those scrolls were what she brought from the Senju clan.

His previous self hadn't paid attention to them.

But.

Kyōichi felt there might be something useful in there.

He carefully searched through them.

Sure enough!

One scroll contained special content.

Some of Tobirama Senju's sword technique materials.

Though only a transcribed version without systematic sword techniques, it formed a complete sword system.

Konoha-Style Swordsmanship!

"This book is truly a treasure," Kyōichi marveled.

His grandmother's choice to copy this book instead of taking ninjutsu scrolls showed incredible wisdom.

If descendants had enough insight, they could develop a sword system from this book.

Unfortunately, his father seemed to lack that insight and didn't grasp its secrets.

Though he mastered some basic swordsmanship, it was superficial, and by his previous self's generation, it wasn't studied at all.

Kyōichi pondered for a moment and put the book away.

He'd study it carefully tonight.

He looked at the other books - they weren't ninja scrolls or secret manuscripts, just ordinary books recording family history.

But compared to the Second's sword technique notes, these family history books had been read many more times.

Well, time to start practicing.

After resting, Kyōichi had recovered.

He walked to the courtyard.

The next moment, he formed hand seals...

"Original, wouldn't practicing be more effective if you did it yourself?"

"I need to train my body, so sword practice will have to be left to you."

Kyōichi smiled.

The clone was speechless.

As expected.

How could a shadow clone ever get to enjoy life?

Better start practicing.

...

The next day.

Kyōichi arrived at school in high spirits.

He fully experienced power of the Senju bloodline today.

Not just the physical constitution.

Yesterday both his shadow clone and original body trained intensely, but after one night he was energetic with no fatigue at all.

As for Obito.

When Kyōichi got to the classroom, he could hardly hold back his laughter.

Obito arrived just in time.

By his appearance, he had rushed all the way here, using up quite a bit of chakra on the way, and now he was panting heavily in a disheveled state.

"Sensei, I... I'm not late."

Obito caught his breath.

Afraid of being late, he hadn't stopped running the whole way.

His taijutsu and Body Flicker Technique were already poor, and now he had almost no chakra left after running to school.

"As I said yesterday, you'll be the first to demonstrate the combined use of Clone Technique and Transformation Technique for everyone."

Kyōichi stood at the podium with a smile.

"Huh?"

When Obito heard this, his face instantly froze, then quickly fell.

He had forgotten about this part.

He had brought this trouble upon himself.

Or perhaps.

If only he hadn't taken Rin for ramen yesterday.

He took a deep breath.

Then, gathering his courage, he walked up to the platform.

He quickly formed hand seals.

Compared to Naruto, Obito's chakra control was considerably better, after all, he didn't have the Nine-Tails causing trouble inside him, but it had to be said.

His chakra control was just as terrible.

Soon after.

Chakra overflowed, and moments later, a crooked Kanda Kyōichi appeared beside Obito, collapsed on the ground.

"Exactly the same," Kyōichi remarked inwardly.

Obito wore a bitter expression.

He didn't feel embarrassed, but rather wondered if Kyōichi would punish him again for this.

This sensei... He was good, but as petty as could be.

"You have plenty of chakra, and your talent for ninjutsu and shuriken is good, but taijutsu and chakra control are your weaknesses. You need to work hard to improve them, otherwise you'll be a liability on the battlefield later," Kyōichi advised.

Obito quickly bowed and said, "Thank you, sensei!"

Previous teachers would just shake their heads.

But.

This Kanda-sensei showed no signs of looking down on him, and instead offered guidance, just this alone made Obito dismiss many thoughts from his mind.

"Tree climbing and water walking - practice them at your own pace," Kyōichi said flatly.

"Tree climbing and water walking?"

Many students below were confused.

Including Iruka.

Being civilians, before being assigned to a team and getting their genin sensei, how would they know about such things?

"Use chakra on the soles of your feet to climb trees, and as for water walking... it's using chakra to walk on water's surface,"

Kyōichi explained.

"I think I heard my father mention this."

"Have you practiced it?" Obito asked.

"No, I could do it without practice," Yūhi Kurenai shook her head.

"..."

Damn.

People with natural talent are so annoying, Obito grumbled internally.

"Sensei, could you explain in more detail..."

"Sure."

Kyōichi explained the tree climbing and water walking very clearly.

This kind of knowledge wasn't some secret technique.

However.

Knowledge itself had barriers, and without someone teaching it, those below wouldn't understand.

He mentioned these things hoping the civilian children could practice early, so they wouldn't fall too far behind others when they went to the battlefield, giving them more hope of survival.

Of course.

Perhaps the Third Hokage wanted this taught after team assignments.

But...

This was wartime, what jōnin had time to teach?

"Practice these often in your spare time. Alright, next..."

Kyōichi nodded, gesturing for others to come up.

Apart from Obito, others didn't consume much chakra and had good control, making the combination of transformation and clone jutsu not difficult.

Later, he requested they increase the number of clones.

This became more difficult.

But.

This time even Obito had recovered, and although two or three were failures, it was clear that Obito's own ability hadn't reached Naruto's level - earlier he had just exhausted his chakra and embarrassed himself.

Soon.

One class was finished.

"Easy!"

Kyōichi was starting to enjoy it.

The children of the ninja world were much easier to teach than the troublemakers of his previous life, each one very obedient, with the most mischievous students only being late or skipping class.

Moreover.

Since he took over, no student had left class early.

Back in the office.

Kyōichi looked at the system panel.

[Completed teaching 'Combined use of Transformation and Clone Jutsu', 'Tree Climbing' and 'Water Walking'.]

[Evaluation: Excellent.]

[Reward: Chakra Sensing.]

Chakra Sensing?

Kyōichi looked around, then mentally chose to accept.

Afterward, he placed his finger on the ground, and soon, his chakra extended out, and everything around him entered his mind.

"So it's this technique!"
