He glanced at Falcon, then back at Jovana. "Milady, I regret to inform you that I can't be of any assistance in your personal matters. I have to escort Lord Ridley to the royal palace."
"Escorting Lord Ridley? Are you seriously implying that a young and strong nobleman is more in need of an escort than a defenseless lady? I'm sure that my fiancé, Lord Caspian Clifford, would disagree," Jovana said, and at the mention of Caspian's name, the guard's anger vanished completely.
He shifted closer to Jovana, looking humble and beaten. "Milady, please, be reasonable. The commander ordered me to bring Lord Ridley in and said he had to sign some papers. I don't know what those papers are about, but he said that my future as a guard is tied to this assignment. So, please, Milady, my hands are tied."
Jovana sighed and gracefully rolled her eyes, dramatically bending her head back. "Then go. I'll find the assistance I need elsewhere."
