Yoruichi's group was seated in the front row, something that caught him by surprise.
But after thinking it through, it made sense. Representing the Senju clan naturally gave him such recognition. After all, the Senju were Konoha's foremost clan, at least in reputation.
The entire room's attention fell on Yoruichi, who sat near Uzumaki Mito. He could hear the murmurs around him.
"Is that Yoruichi? He's here too?"
"Have there been any updates on the top positions in the administration department?"
"Is Hokage-sama planning to reform the Root organization?"
The names being discussed were familiar. Aside from Danzo, members of the Shimura clan were practically non-existent in the anime. Yet here were key figures like the eldest son of Hiruzen Sarutobi and Asuma Sarutobi's older brother.
Kushina Uzumaki explained the situation. Among Konoha's prominent clans, the Senju, Hyuga, and Uchiha stood at the top. Other respected families like the Sarutobi and Shimura clans also held weight due to their long history dating back to the Warring States period.
Sarutobi Sasuke, Hiruzen's father, was a renowned ninja of that time and one of Konoha's founders.
Most people attending this meeting came from the 38 major clans of Konoha. Listening to Kushina's explanations, Yoruichi began piecing things together.
The 38 students handpicked by the Second Hokage represented these families. The so-called "Will of Fire" seemed to revolve around these bloodlines. If you weren't part of these clans, your chances of rising to Konoha's upper echelons were slim.
Occasionally, exceptions like Minato Namikaze happened. But even Minato's rise wasn't purely based on his merits. His wife, Kushina Uzumaki, was the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and a key figure of the Uzumaki clan. He followed the elders' guidance, which aligned with the political structure of the Will of Fire.
In contrast, individuals like Sakumo Hatake, despite their strength and contributions, found themselves politically marginalized.
Yoruichi thought to himself: if he hadn't awakened the Senju clan's unique abilities, he probably wouldn't have been seated here, part of Konoha's elite society.
The conference hall grew silent as the door opened. Hiruzen Sarutobi entered, flanked by several Konoha ninjas. All eyes shifted to the Third Hokage as he made his way to the podium.
Standing tall, Hiruzen scanned the room before announcing, "I bring good news!"
The room leaned in, waiting.
"Under Danzo's leadership, our delegation to Kumogakure has achieved a significant breakthrough. Kumogakure has signed a 20-year peace agreement with us! For the next two decades, Konoha and Kumogakure will maintain peace."
The room erupted in murmurs of approval. Smiles spread across the faces of many attendees.
For years, they had seen the cost of war. This agreement with the most militant of the Five Great Nations marked a milestone in Konoha's pursuit of stability.
Members of the Shimura clan beamed with pride. Their leader, Danzo, had returned as a hero, not as the shadowy figure many painted him to be. Even after being ostracized, he contributed to Konoha's future.
Yoruichi couldn't hide his surprise. Danzo… a diplomat? Already paving his way back into favor? Politicians, man. They play the game on a different level.
Next to him, Uzumaki Mito frowned slightly but said nothing. She'd never been interested in politics, which had contributed to the decline of both the Senju and Uzumaki clans.
With the big news delivered, Hiruzen shifted to the main agenda.
"Today's focus is on restructuring within Konoha's administration."
He outlined the appointments one by one.
Akimichi Takekaze, an old friend of Hiruzen, was named the interim head of the Administration Department.
Uzumaki Mito and the Hyuga clan head were appointed as special advisors.
Tsunade took charge of the Medical Corps, with Orochimaru as her deputy.
Jiraiya was assigned as the principal of the Ninja Academy, with Minato Namikaze as his vice principal.
The reassignments were met with murmurs. The return of the legendary Sannin to major roles stirred excitement.
Meanwhile, the Uchiha clan retained control of the Konoha Police Force. However, their authority expanded due to the dissolution of Root.
Listening to the announcements, Yoruichi wondered if his name would come up. He doubted it. No way they'd throw me into anything big…
But before the thought finished, Hiruzen's gaze fell on him.
"Yoruichi," the Third Hokage said firmly, "for your contributions during Kushina Uzumaki's rescue and exposing Root's illegal activities, you are promoted to Special Jonin. You will also serve as the vice principal of the Ninja Academy."
The room froze for a moment. Then whispers erupted once more.
