The library was enormous. 

No, enormous wasn't quite the right word, it was colossal, the kind of place that felt like it had no business existing anywhere but a storybook. Q stared up at the towering shelves, her neck craning so far back she nearly toppled over. They stretched toward the ceiling in an endless cascade of polished wood and neatly arranged books, every single one gleaming as if it had been dusted that morning.

Back home, Maddy's library had been the closest thing to this, and even then, it was like comparing a mouse to an elephant. Maddy's collection had been smaller and mismatched, a room tucked next to her bedroom where books leaned against one another like tired friends. This, though—this was the kind of library that made you feel like you'd need a treasure map just to find your way out again.
