Chapter 2 - Childhood and knowing what your future is against

Ava is 18 years old with so many stories, and so many nightmares. She didn't have a great childhood, and neither did her brother James .

Yes, I know what you are asking; " Why didn't they had a great childhood?"

First, let me tell you about James.

James is tall and handsome. With his blue and green eyes, sharp features, and dark hair, he's everything a girl could ever ask for and more. He is very protective over Ava, and he loves her more than anything in this world.

He has been best friends with Jason Whitlock since they were five, but Jason is not like James. James likes to party, and sleep around with all of the girls in college. They're also two years older than Ava.

Jason is just different. He doesn't just sleep with any girl he sees. He has a type, and he's a multi-millionaire, or not yet. He's still in college, and will take over his father's business after he graduates.

Now the story about why they're childhood is so messed up.

They were the perfect family anyone could have imagined, but they're mother just changed so suddenly. She didn't want Michael, their father, anymore. They would fight 24/7. They divorced when Ava was six and James was eight. James lived with Michael and Ava with her mother, but things weren't the same anymore. Her mother was depressed and yelled at her the whole time about every little thing that she did.

One day, Ava and her mother sat outside as Ava played with her dolls. Suddenly, her mother just stood up and went inside to get her self a drink. When she got back, Ava tried to give her a doll so that her mother can play with her, but out of the blue her mother pushed her into the pool. Even though, she knew Ava couldn't swim.

It was a miracle that Michael came to give their mother the divorce papers to sign in that moment. James and Michael saw what their mother did to her, and luckily James jumped in and saved her.

Ava had been afraid of her mother since that day. She didn't want to live with her mother anymore, but she didn't have a choice.

Until the day when ava turned fourteen. Her mother had taken her own life that day, and it scarred her for life. To see her mother laying on the ground with vomit surrounding her, and empty pill bottles scattered around broke something inside of her.

Ava was broken. She wasn't herself anymore. At least she got to go live with James and their father, Michael. She finally had the love and support of her real family.

James had his friend Jason over almost every single day. They would play games while Ava went on with her life as best she could. She later became a photographer.

She was amazing at it, and she made a lot of money by doing what she loves. She wasn't going to let what happened in the past stop her from making her dreams come true.

Ava was busy at a wedding, taking the groom and brides' photos, and when she was done, she expected to arrive to an empty home like always.

When Ava arrived at her house, she found James sitting in the kitchen as always, eating away at her food.

"Hey, J. How was your day?"

James looked up from the bowl of spaghetti he was eating, quickly swallowing to answer her, "Hey, sis. My day was fantastic, as always. Jason and I just played games and swam. How was your day?"

"Oh, thank goodness Jason is at his own house for once!" Ava said teasingly. "Oh my day was awesome, thanks."

"Of course Jason is at his own house." He lies awkwardly, making Ava feel a little suspicious for a moment.

"Okay." She trailed off after a moment of just staring at him skeptically.

She went to the freezer to get her frozen water bottle, and when she turned around, she walked right into Jason.

"Oh! Sorry, Ava!" He said in surprise, his voice deep and gravely.

Ava just stares at him for a moment before looking at James with an accusing glare. "I thought you said that Jason was at his house, James?"

James just laughs, looking at her with a wide smile, completely ignoring her glare. "I was clearly lying, Ava! Duh!" He said in amusement.

James knew that she didn't like his friend, but sometimes, even she couldn't deny his attractiveness. You know when they say that your destiny is what you desire? Well, that's true. This year might just be the best year of her life, but only if she stays away from Jason. His middle name is trouble.

The only problem is that James is leaving this Friday to go study in Washington. He wants to be an architect, and while Ava supports him, she will miss him dearly. He was her only real support system since that faithful day with her mother, and now she'll have no one. Her father won't be of much help since he moved to Hawaii with his new wife, abandoning the children that reminded him of his deceased first love.
