Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 — Survival

(Continuing from last chapter...)

It looked just like a regular apple. It felt just like one too. Though it was smaller, it still had the same, vibrant red hue that our apples back home had. But, just like the trees this world has, it also feels weird-

APPRAISAL : Malus Indomitus, Ferox's Apple

Wha...

"What the fuck is this?"

I stared, dumbfounded that the blue window from when we fell from the sky, suddenly popped up again.

I checked the apple, spun it around and stuff to see if the pop-up would dissapear, but it didn't. Then, I tried to touch the pop-up itself, which expanded it and of course, I read it.

*See chapter two's notes

Whoa... This one apple does all of that?.. and there's a whole tree of it too?..

"Well, I better uh... Take some more.." I said to myself as I picked up one more apple before stuffing them in my pockets. I'm such an avaricious schmuck. (I just wanted to use that word lol)

Afterwards, I went on to foraging more stuff, finding out the names of the stuff that I gather and putting them all in my bag.

"Ooh, blueberries." I said as I stuffed them in my bag.

APPRAISAL : Vaccinium betulami, Birchtree Blueberry 」

"Ooh, strawberries." I said as I stuffed them in my bag.

APPRAISAL : Fragaria vesca-gradis, Large Wild Strawberry

I wonder how the guys are doing... I thought as I began wandering more and more away from our camp.

...

(Back at the "camp" the two were in...)

Lloyd was sitting on the log while Clyde was laying on his shitty DIY bed made from leaves and using his bag as a pillow.

"Man, Alex is taking a long time to get back here." Lloyd said in a bored tone.

"Yeah, where'd he even go?" Clyde asked as he took off his glasses and put them beside him. "Ow, pointy rock..."

"Dunno, he said he was gonna get some firewood for a fire." Lloyd replied as he laid down on the log.

"..."

The two stared at the purple sky as the sun sets. Stars started twinkling, the clouds became less visible and crickets started chirping.

...

"Hey, Lloyd..."

"Yeah?"

"What do you think our families are thinking right now?.. After we just suddenly disappeared like that?" He said with a bit of melancholy in his voice.

...

Lloyd turned his head to look at Clyde below him.

"... Well, my parents sure as hell won't care. But yours definitely would. Just have hope. Hope that we'll get out of here. Somehow. " He said as he turned his head back, looking back up at the sky.

"... What do you think will happen to us, Lloyd? If we don't get out of this world, I mean."

"... I'd rather not think about that right now Clyde."

...

Suddenly, a bush rustled which alerted the two.

Lloyd was already sitting up from his log and stared at the bushes all the while Clyde was still trying to put his glasses on as he struggled on the bed.

Is it an animal? Is it a person? Is it gonna kill us? Are we gonna die here? A million thoughts ran through Lloyd's head as he stood up from the log and grabbed a sharp rock.

rustle rustle...

"Clyde... Get up, and get a rock... Let's fuck this thing up." Lloyd whispered to Clyde as he started slowly advancing towards the source of the noise.

"O-ok!" Clyde whispered back as he grabbed a rock and sat behind the log.

"Clyde! Come here! What are you-"

Then suddenly...

"TADAA! It's me!- OOF!" I suddenly jumped out as I surprised Lloyd which caused him to smack my face with the rock.

"Owwww... What'd you do that for?!" I screamed.

"...Grr... You deserved it, dick! Why'd you think that was a good idea?!" Lloyd screamed back.

"Are you okay, Alex?" Clyde asked, worriedly as he stopped cowering behind the log before going to us.

"Yeah, I'm fine..." I said as I caressed my cheek. "Anyways, I found all sorts of shit out there!" I immediately came back to my senses as I excitedly started telling them.

"Come on, let's make a fire first."

...

After making a fire, we all sat in each of our places and I started going through my filled bag.

"Hey Lloyd, catch." I said as I lightly threw an apple to him.

"Two out of ten throw, too-"

He tried to say before a message popped up as I expected.

"-slow..."

APPRAISAL : Malus comiscuus, Common Apple 」

"Wha-"

"Whoa! That's cool!" Clyde screamed.

"I know, right?" I replied with a smile.

"Give me one, Alex!"

"Catch."

"Oooh!" Clyde caught the strawberry and a message also popped up for him.

"

"That's so awesome! These all have their scientific names matching with ours but the alst part is the only thing that's different!"

"Wait, really?" I asked in surprise.

"Yeah!"

"... Well, I don't care. I'm gonna eat these." Lloyd said as he started munching on the apple I gave him.

"Yeah, let's eat!"

"Mm... These strawberries are so sweet..." Clyde commented.

"Lemme have some." Lloyd said.

...

After that absolute feast, we laid down on our beds.

Wait, I don't even have a bed...

"Alright guys I'm just gonna-..."

They're already asleep...

I quietly left to get some sticks to make a good enough bed for me to sleep in.

"Hmm... The forest is really calm at night..." I said to myself as I walked through. "... I wonder if this world has elves... I mean, it has orcs, so there's bound to be some."

...

After grabbing a few branches big enough for a frame, I started walking back.

"...This forest is beautiful at night too."

I said as I stared at the trees being illuminated by the moonlight. The tree leaves whispering, the frequent chirp of a cricket and my footsteps being the only things that are audible.

...

"...yawn..."

"Oh man... I gotta get back before I get even more tired." After saying this, I started walking faster.

...

(At the grassfields we were in earlier...)

It was really dark and quiet. The footsteps of soldiers walking through the fields and crickets chirping are the only things audible.

"Stop." The hooded scout leader dressed in light armor commanded.

"This is the point where the heroes were summoned."

...

"Clint, track them." He said as he pointed at the grass with evident traces of people falling on it.

"Yes, sir." Another man in light armor said as he went to the site the leader pointed to.

"...O' God of Sight, Give us the power, to see the right, and guide us with your light, Track."

...

A path of light lit up form the ground, tracing our steps as soon as the soldier finished his chant.

"Sheris Patrol, follow my lead. Clint, stay here and keep the path lit up."

"Yes, sir."

...

(To be continued...)
