Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

I stared at the phone. He's never once called me before. Why now? Despite my doubts, I picked up the call anyway.

"ASHLEY," Andrew shouted from the other side of the phone. "Why the hell are you at at that man's house," he demanded.

"I'm living with him from now on," I replied.

"...what the hell," he wispered. " What do you mean you're living with him now?! Who said you could just go off and live with that man! What about mom? She'd never accept this!" He exclaimed.

"Ha..haha," I laughed, the irony of those words...

"Why are you laughing? Do you seriously think this is funny?" He asked.

"Oh Andrew Andrew Andrew, don't you know? Why would I ever choose to leave my own home and move across the country to live with this man?" I asked. He didn't reply.

"That's right, Andrew. I never left. I was kicked out, by our mother no less," I hissed.

"What?... That can't be true. She'd never do such a thing...." he trailed off.

"I don't care if you believe me or not. Besides, isn't it just great for you all that I'm finally gone? Atleast now you won't have to put up with little miss princess," I growled.

"Ashley, thats not-" I hung up the call. I was hungry and not in the mood to talk.

I pinned my hair out of my face with a blue clip so it'd stay out of my eyes. Somehow my hair looks even more beautiful than it did before. The purple and blue colour was more vibrant within the black and when the light touched my hair it looked like stars glittering in the night sky.

My blue eyes had a little bit of gold inside the blue, swirling around in circles within my irises. I stared at myself in the mirror. How on earth did that happen? My father hadn't noticed my change of appearance yesterday, but he was sure to notice now.

Sighing, I walked downstairs and out the door. I got a call as soon as I was out the house. Andrew was calling again. I picked up the phone and started walking towards the stores.

"What is it?" I ask, not even bothering to hide the annoyance in my voice.

"It's about what you said earlier. You said mom kicked you out, I was wondering if you knew why." He asked.

"No, I don't. I'm pretty sure it's because of Noah," I replied. Just barely avoiding getting run over by a huge cart a man was pushing. Most of the roads here were made of brick, and there weren't any vehicles on the street, just lots of people.

"But why would Noah want to kick you out? He's such a nice guy, I don't see why he'd ever do that." Andrew reasoned.

"Nice to you, maybe. But not to me. He hates my guts and I know it." I countered. I stopped walking, having arived at a supermarket.

"What? But why would you think he hates you?" Andrew asked, clearly confused.

"Sigh. Whatever. You can think what you want. I don't care anymore. If you haven't picked up on the fact that everyone in that house hates me, including you, might I add, then I won't waste my time talking to you about it. Anyway, I have to go, bye." I stated.

"W-" I cut the call. Again. I walked into the store and goyt to shopping.

....

By the time I got home, it was already 2pm. I decided to buy some books, new sheets and pillows for my bed as well as some frozen food. I feared I would not be able to cook in such conditions.

I placed my bags on the kitchen counter top and put the frozen meals in the fridge. I'd try to get my own fridge to keep in my room but until then this would have to do. I took the rest of the bags and went upstairs.

The wardrobe in my room was huge with many partitions and all my clothes only took up half of the thing. I put the rest of the food, instant coffe, and other drinks opposite my clothes near the door.

I went back down stairs and grabbed a frozen pizza from the fridge. The microwave was really old and sounded like it'd explode while microwaving my pizza. I half expected it to actually explode.

I grabbed my food and went upstairs to my room to eat. Grabbing a strawberry and banana drink I went to go sit at the table in the corner to eat.

Taking a bite out of pizza I took out my phone and checked the notifications. There were several missed calls from Andrew, as well as a few messages pleading with me to pick up the phone. I stared at the messages on my phone.

This was the same Andrew who wouldn't bat an eye at Mia and Micah's constant insults at me. The same one who couldn't spare me a glance while we were living in the same house. So why, why is he suddenly so interested in me?

I decided to ignore him for now, instead I ate my meal while looking through the news. Nothing interesting was on so I instead shifted my focus to school.

Since I failed to get into any hero schools I'd need to find a new school before school was set to reopen. I thought about it before and already decided I wanted to study mechanics. There are loads of schools that teach mechanics, but none in this area. The best option for me would be online school but I don't know if my father will allow it.

I sighed. I'd talk to him tonight and get it sorted. I was already full so I took the rest of the pizza back down stairs and into the fridge for later. I looked at the time. 3:30pm. I decided to go back upstairs and read one of my newly bought books.

I went back up to my room and changed into a shirt and comfy shorts before crawling up onto my bed with my book.

.....

It was near midnight when I heard the door creak open.

I got out of bed and went downstairs. My father was sitting sitting on the couch, a bottle of vodka in hand. He looked up to the sound of the stairs creaking with my weight. I expected him to yell at me for being up so late but he just went back to watching tv.

Huh. I guess he really meant it when he said he doesn't care what I do. Taking a deep breath, I went down the stairs and made my way towards the couch. He raised his brows and stared at me. I stopped a few feet away from the couch and looked my father in the eye before I spoke.

"We need to talk."
