Kaecilius clapped his hands, drawing their attention. "Enough chatter. Take your positions and focus. Remember, the key is not just power but intention. Clear your mind and let the mana flow naturally."
Mia and Michael positioned themselves a few feet apart, standing on glyphs engraved into the floor. They closed their eyes and began to concentrate. Mia quickly slipped into a state of focus, visualizing the golden orb she had summoned earlier. She extended her hand, and a faint glow began to form in her palm.
Michael, meanwhile, tried to call upon the mana he had already mastered sensing. Energy crackled at his fingertips, but it fizzled out almost immediately. He frowned, muttering under his breath, "Why isn't this working?"
"Because you're forcing it," Kaecilius said, observing him. "Mana isn't a hammer; it's a stream. Flow with it, don't try to control it like a tool."
Michael sighed and took a deep breath, 'Just activating skills is easy' he thought, as he focused, letting Kaecilius's words sink in. He adjusted his stance and tried again, this time focusing on the sensation of the mana rather than the result he wanted. Slowly but surely, a small, flickering spark appeared above his hand.
"Got it," Michael said, a hint of pride in his voice.
"Good," Kaecilius said, nodding. "Now sustain it. The longer you can hold it, the stronger your connection becomes."
Mia, meanwhile, had progressed further. The glow in her palm had grown into a small, radiant wisp that hovered steadily above her hand. She smiled, clearly pleased with her progress. "Not bad for a 'rookie,' huh?" she said, glancing at Michael.
Michael snorted. "Show-off."
Kaecilius raised a hand to quiet them. "Enough banter. You've both done well for a first attempt, but this is just the beginning. The constructs you're forming are fragile and basic. With time, you'll learn to create more complex and durable forms. For now, focus on refining your control. Tomorrow, we move on to defensive spells."
The session continued for another hour, with Kaecilius offering guidance and corrections as Mia and Michael practiced. By the time they finished, both were exhausted but exhilarated by their progress.
As they left the chamber, Mia couldn't help but smile. "This is way better than I thought it'd be," she admitted. "I might actually enjoy learning magic."
Michael chuckled. "I'll admit, it's kind of fun. But don't think I'll let you outshine me."
"Dream on," Mia replied, rolling her eyes.
Kaecilius watched them with a small smile. They're quick learners, he thought. 'No wonder seh approved them easily' he wondered as he lft.
For the next few months, it was just everyday training for them. Mia informed Michael's mother that she was accompanying him on his travels, but she didn't mention anything about magic, lest she bring up the drug addict issue as well.
Thankfully, Michael's mother gave her permission, and she was easily able to accompany him.
"We've got a task," suddenly, Kaecilius entered, appearing beside them.
"What is it?" they asked as he showed them an image.
"She stole an artifact we need to retrieve," Kaecilius said as Wong and another woman entered.
"She's Master Tina Minorou, and he's Master Daniel Drum. You all know Wong," Kaecilius added.
"There's a theft in the London Sanctum. A witch stole the Dark Scepter. It's a powerful tool, and it's dangerous in the wrong hands," Kaecilius explained.
Wong, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. "The Scepter is not just any artifact. It can manipulate and control the flow of dark energy, which is why it cannot fall into the wrong hands."
Mia frowned, processing the information. "So, what exactly is our role in all of this?"
"Nothing, you are just accompanying us to see how Masters work," Kaecilius said as Michael chimed in.
"But I can fight toe to toe with you," he said, confidently.
Kaecilius looked at him with a raised brow. "Yeah, but you're not a Master yet."
Michael sighed, a bit deflated, as Wong just shrugged and patted his shoulder. "Don't worry, a month or two, and you'll be a Master too," he said encouragingly, and Michael nodded in response.
They prepared for their mission, with Kaecilius opening a portal to their destination. It turned out, the easiest part was not the fighting—it was finding the witch. The Dark Scepter, without its owner, had a unique aura that continuously emitted its power. It was this aura that led them straight to her.
Once they found her, they quickly surrounded her, ready to act.
"So, she's there?" Michael asked, glancing at Daniel Drumm, who nodded. The group stood on top of a building, observing the floor of the building across from them.
Master Tina and Mia were on the opposite side, while Wong and Kaecilius positioned themselves on the left and right sides of the building.
"Together," Kaecilius said, and they all nodded. Then, in unison, they began chanting slowly, their hands resting on the ground. A dome of energy formed around them, transporting them and the witch in the building to the Mirror Dimension.
"This is how we keep things secret while catching criminals," Daniel Drumm explained as Michael nodded and jumped after him. They leapt into action, attacking the building. The witch emerged, bursting through the roof, glaring at them.
"So, this is what Ancient Ones have come to... Four grown-ups and two kids," she said, her eyes locking on them. Michael immediately released a dark bolt, which the witch countered with the Dark Scepter, briefly stopping the attack.
"Nope, it's Death Magic," Michael said, smirking as the bolt blasted toward her face. At the same moment, Kaecilius performed a swift movement, launching an orange sword of Vishanti at the witch. But the witch skillfully countered, using the Dark Scepter to release a massive dark ball of energy, sending it hurtling toward them.
"just watch" Kaecilius said as Michael was about to attack another spell.
He shrugged though his gaze went on the Dark Scepter as it is calling him, 'It seemed compatible with me' he wondered as he looked at the Scepter in her hand.
