As soon as the massive Onix emerged, Pikachu was startled by its huge body and the cold, disdainful look it gave the small Pokémon.

"Pika! Pika! (I am out of this sh*t)" Pikachu exclaimed, trotting back to Ash, tugging on his jacket, and trying to press the buttons on Ash's other Poké Balls, hoping to swap itself out for another Pokémon!

"Hey, hey!" Ash picked up Pikachu with an exasperated expression. "Pikachu! Don't try to switch out with Pidgeotto on your own get back out there and battle!"

With Ash's encouragement, Pikachu reluctantly returned to the battlefield.

"Pika! Pi.."

The Electric-type hit the ground, preparing itself…

In the stands, Kai chuckled softly. He knew Ash didn't fully grasp type matchups yet and often relied on sheer creativity to win battles.

This could be both Ash's weakness and his strength. It was this unpredictability that sometimes let him defeat powerful foes.

But for now, his lack of experience was obvious.

Shaking his head, his Pokédex fetish started to work on him Kai pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it at Pikachu.

The Pokédex spoke: "Pikachu, the Mouse Pokémon. An Electric type. Its cheeks contain electric sacs that store electricity. When it gets angry, it unleashes a powerful electric shock."

Kai then turned his Pokédex toward Onix.

"Onix, the Rock Snake Pokémon. A Rock- and Ground-type. Its body is made up of boulders that resemble a snake, and it tunnels underground at 50 miles per hour."

As Brock gave the command, the battle began.

"Onix, use Tackle!" Brock called.

In the arena, Onix twisted its massive body and hurled itself head-first toward Pikachu.

Overwhelmed by Onix's intimidating presence, Pikachu darted around in fear, not even trying to counterattack.

Soon, Onix seized the chance and ensnared Pikachu tightly with its tail.

"Good, Onix! Use Bind!"

Seeing Pikachu struggling in Onix's grip, Ash became anxious. "Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!"

"Pikaaa!Chuuuuuuu..!!"

At Ash's command, sparks gathered on Pikachu's cheeks before releasing a powerful jolt of electricity.

But despite Pikachu's effort, the attack seemed ineffective against Onix.

Brock crossed his arms and smirked. "Trying to beat my Onix with an Electric attack? That's a rookie mistake."

"Darn it!" Ash clenched his fists, his frustration mounting.

Seeing Pikachu unable to break free and struggling in pain, Ash finally shouts, "Please, stop! I surrender!"

Brock nodded, and Onix released Pikachu, who slumped to the ground. Ash quickly rushed in to pick him up.

"Are you okay, Pikachu?"

As the battle ended, Kai made his way down from the stands, unsure how to comfort Ash.

But he knew Ash's determined personality he would bounce back soon.

Reaching the trainer's area, Kai said to Brock, "Alright, that was the warm-up. It's my turn now."

Brock recalled Onix and took out another Poké Ball. "You're a different opponent altogether, I see."

"Yes," Kai said, smiling. "Though he's a bit inexperienced now, I believe Ash has the potential to become a great Pokémon Master."

Ash, holding Pikachu, looked back in surprise. This was the first time someone had recognized his potential, and he felt a swell of emotion.

This person… believes in me?

"Go, Geodude!" Brock shouted, releasing the next Pokémon. In a flash of red light, a round rock with muscular arms appeared before Kai.

Ahhh...Pokédex

Kai pointed his Pokédex at it.

"Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. A Rock- and Ground-type. Commonly found in mountainous areas, it often buries itself partially underground, camouflaged as a rock. People frequently trip over it without noticing."

Kai turned his gaze to his own Pokémon choices, eventually deciding, "Bulbasaur, it's your turn!"

"Bulba, Bulba!"

Both Squirtle, a Water-type, and Bulbasaur, a Grass-type, could easily exploit the quadruple weakness of Rock- and Ground-types, so either would make this battle manageable.

In the stands, Misty patted Pikachu and teased Ash. "Unlike you, Kai knows his type matchups well. He's got the makings of a skilled trainer."

Surprisingly, Ash didn't argue back. Instead, he carefully observed Kai's every move, still touched by Kai's earlier encouragement.

As both Bulbasaur and Geodude took their positions, the battle began.

"Geodude, use Tackle!"

Kai commanded, "Bulbasaur, show them our new move Razor Leaf!"

"Bulba!!saur...!!!!"

Before Geodude could get close, sharp leaves glowing with a green hue appeared around Bulbasaur and shot toward Geodude.

"Geodude, dodge it!" Brock ordered.

But Razor Leaf was too fast; it hit Geodude directly, causing a super-effective impact.

After the dust cleared, Geodude was clearly in pain. Brock responded quickly. "Geodude, use Rock Throw!"

Geodude raised its arms, summoning several large rocks that hovered momentarily before hurling them toward Bulbasaur.

The area of attack was wide, and Kai knew Bulbasaur wouldn't dodge in time. He gave a quick command: "Bulbasaur, aim for those rocks with Razor Leaf!"

"Bulba!"

Bulbasaur's leaves shot out, shattering most of the rocks, though a few smaller fragments still struck it. Despite the hits, Bulbasaur stood firmly, unfazed by the pain.
