Chapter 3 - The Book

Sep 32nd

8:00 A.M.

As both of them plopped themselves into their chairs, both of them felt the room go starkly quiet compared to the actual noise and volume of the room. This was not due to anything supernatural but the work ethic and focus these guys put into their jobs, actually just Ash. Blink sat in his office chair playing some stupid game that Ash always tried to stop him from playing. Since it was Leap Day, Ash didn't care at all and was fully focused on the book that lay in front of him.

The book was the color of a coffee ground and smelt like... Why did the book have a unique smell Ash wondered. Most books he read either smelt like freshly printed paper or had lost their paper smell and gained the neutral smell most objects had. This book smelt like something he had never smelt before. But if had to put a name on the aroma, he would call it 'mystery,' even if he knew its origins.

Paying attention to the words on it instead of its smell, Ash finally noticed something that would help his understanding of this unknown book. The title of the book was in stark yellow offsetting the deep brown of the cover. The title was...

Your Fantasy

This title inspired a hope in Ash's not even fully developed brain as he generated a myriad of possibilities for the plot of this book. But considering the simplistic title Ash couldn't stick to ten not to mention one concrete idea.

He thought of magic, knights, portals, different worlds, spirits, floating castles, dungeons, countless monsters, dragons, giants, elves, golems, complex machinery, elements (fire and water, not carbon you nerds), vampires, werewolves, legendary artifacts, powerful gods, and an infinite amount of fantasy elements.

As Ash was lost in his own fantastical thoughts, something completely magical happened right in his cubicle on Review Floor 17 in the Silos and Aristocracy HQ in NYC in the U.S.A. in the North American Continent in planet Earth. This was not the first magical thing to happen on earth and it technically wasn't the last, but it was the most impactful.

Had Ash opened the book before thinking about what its content would be he would have noticed a completely blank book. The second Ash saw the title and started formulating ideas, words began to spring onto the page faster than any writer could ever imagine. Despite the book being of average size and seeming to have around 500 pages the book could hold an infinite number of words as Ash's imagination had yet to end.

Everything Ash identified as fantastical entered his mind and subsequently the book. Ash had never thought a book could rearrange his thoughts into a complete story as that would be unreasonable considering that the idea of magic on Earth wasn't 'realistic.'

Your Fantasy, without Ash's notice had subtlety gained an author and a works cited in the last page. The author read The Author, and the works cited page read, "The Author's Imagination."

Ash would remain in this immensely fast thought process for his entire workday and then the clock struck. This would be the last time this clock struck at 4 P.M. as it would break by tomorrow at 3 P.M.

...

Sep. 32nd

4:01 P.M.

Blink finally blinked his eyes after staring at his phone for wayyyyy tooooo long. While he was moistening his eye for the first time in eight hours, he noticed that Ash had this blank look on his face. Blink not wanting his only friend to rot in the boring office for eternity gave him a wakeup call.

Smack!

"JESUS BLINK!" screamed Ash. Of course, these friends of 7 years had plenty of experiences exactly like this in this past, most had to do with Blink smacking his only friend.

"i did what i had to," Blink stated.

"I know," Ash had been through lots of odd conflicts with his best friend over the years but this unique relationship is the one of the few that could not shatter unless something godly intervened to split two friends apart.

Blink wanting to go home, started to urge Ash to forget about his weird obsessions and go home.

"aassssshhhhhhhh, can you take me home? i can't eat alone again. i will die."

"Yes, do you have an idea for what you want?"

"sir ronaldz."

Ash had dealt with Blink's terrible diet for their entire friendship, and he has dissuaded it multiple times, but old habits die hard so it was out of his control.

The two friends then left the building and took a cab to the closest SirRonald's chain from Blink's apartment which was in east-side Brooklyn. Blink got a good lease with utilities included so he lived happily in his dark abode which he usually kept unlit for no reason other than his own preference.

Arriving at the apartment Blink got some odd stares as his appearance was not your average. Blink was a short man around 5'5" with unkempt long black hair. His face was not ugly as he had a sharp jawline with high cheekbones, and unfathomably dark eyes. Ash once said staring into them was like looking into the abyss. Ash got slapped. He was very skinny and pale as he rarely left the house other than for work and occasions where he and Ash would hit the town. There is a lot of funny interactions between this hilarious duo, but I digress this is not what I'm here for.

Trekking up the absurdly long stairs up to the 20th floor, Blink got his key and entered his peaceful abode and set up the table to eat the amazing turkey nuggets along with a ham and cheese sandwich while Ash decided to just eat a salad as well as Blink's leftovers.

While putting down his bag, Ash saw Your Fantasy and decided to tell Blink about it.

"Yo, Blink check out this cool book I found."

"is that the unnamed one you found yesterday?"

"Yea, but turns out I just missed the title, It's Your Fantasy."

"my only fantasy is sir ronaldz rn."

And so, the book wrote more.

Ash then realized he had never actually opened the book due to his extended stupor from thinking to much, so he decided to open Your Fantasy."

As he turned the first page he saw the warning, "Once you turn this page fantasy will become reality. Turn only if your fantasy is worth reality."

Now this made Ash's gears turn. He knew he valued reality just as he valued fantasy so why doesn't he try and imagine both?

And so, the book wrote more.

Resolving himself, Ash turned to page one, and then Earth disappeared.
