-Background: Jelena was the daughter of a poor family. Her mother was sick and her father was a miner. The dad, Fangwan, continuously worked hard as a miner who dug up Topaz so that he could buy medicine for his wife, Melissa.
Through rough conditions and long hours, Fangwan worked. But an accident fell upon him which would kill him, a collapsing mine to be exact.
His tragic death would leave behind Jelena and Melissa behind by themselves with no one to provide for them.
Eventually Melissa died from her sickness, leaving behind Topaz by herself. Saddened by not being able to give her daughter anything, the least she could do before passing was give her a last name.
"Topaz", the gem her father mined.
To survive, Jelena would need to steal and pickpocket from any pour soul that would cross her way. Although all of that would change the night she stole from a certain man with long black hair.
Thinking she made a perfect getaway; she was eventually proven wrong when Meliodas caught up to her and got his money back. Of course, not before inviting her to the Tarot Card party as [The Tower]
