After a while, both Kurumi and Kuroka arrived at the Mana Test Area.
This area had only one purpose; as its name suggested, it was for testing the Manas of New Awakeners.
Between 1-100 Mana Intensity was for E-Rank Hunters.
101-200 was for D-Rank.
301-400 was for C-Rank.
401-500 was for B-Rank.
501-800 was for A-Rank.
801-??? was for S-Rank.
In the whole of Japan, there were only a few S-Rank Hunters, while other countries had more than them.
After arriving at the Test Area, the receptionist talked with the staff person responsible for the testing machine.
The testing machine was a precious item for Japan. Because of this, they treated it with the utmost care.
"Who will start first?" the staff member said after dismissing the receptionist. Her tone was gentle yet professional, befitting an experienced staff member.
"You should start first~" Kurumi said as she turned her head to Kuroka with sweet words. Kuroka pouted at her for a brief moment before nodding solemnly.
She wanted to see Kurumi testing herself first before she would test herself. But Kurumi's words were like cold water for her; she couldn't refuse her too. Kurumi was her master after all.
Kuroka made her way towards the small ball that was supposed to test her 'Mana Intensity.'
As she made her way towards the small ball, Kurumi watched her curiously. She wanted to know how this small ball would detect their 'Mana Intensity.' Kuroka was a Nekomata while Kurumi was half-spirit, after all.
After Kuroka arrived in front of the small ball, the staff member said, "You only need to put your hand on the small ball."
And Kuroka did exactly what the staff member said. At first, nothing happened, but then the parameter that the staff member was looking for started to go up. It was 200 from the start, but it didn't stop there for a second and quickly started to grow more and more. In the end, it stopped at the '???' parameter, meaning that Kuroka's Mana Intensity exceeded the scale of this machine.
The staff member looked at the parameter with great shock and awe. This was her first time seeing an S-Rank after all. What's more shocking is that their country would probably gain another S-Rank!
She quickly informed Kurumi and Kuroka, who only nodded and said that they could wait for the Guild Leader to come.
Meanwhile, the staff member called the Guild Leader. Kurumi and Kuroka started to talk among themselves.
"Are we really going to register ourselves as S-Rank Hunters?" Kuroka couldn't help but ask Kurumi when she arrived next to her once again. She couldn't understand why they should register themselves as S-Rank Hunters or come here in the first place.
"Ara~ Of course, Kuroka-chan~ I need this for my plans," Kurumi said with her sweet tone and smile. When she is dedicated to something, she would never back down, no matter what. Even if it meant her death.
Kuroka, seeing the determination in Kurumi's eyes, couldn't help herself and gave a tired sigh. At this action, Kurumi gave a small chuckle while covering her mouth with her right hand. There was also a white bandage on her left eye, making this posture more attractive than normal.
...
They didn't need to wait long as both of them felt another presence with the staff member. This presence was more powerful than the staff member yet was weak by their standard.
One could say that the Guild Leader was at a higher level than Rias by 2x. But in Kurumi's and Kuroka's eyes, this much power was weak.
Both of them waited until the Guild Leader stopped in front of them with a small smile on his old and wrinkle-filled face. It was gentle and warming, like how a grandma would smile at their grandkids. Even Kurumi felt affected by it for a brief moment before composing herself.
"Hello. I heard from my staff that both of you are new S-Ranks? My name is Go Gunhee. Nice to meet you," Go said with his smile as he lifted his hand for a handshake.
'Dangerous...' Kurumi thought inwardly but didn't show it on her face. She felt small danger from this weak man. Perhaps in his prime, he would have been 'worthy' of a fight. But now? He was getting weaker because of old age. But it was not the reason why Kurumi felt small danger from this man. It was his way of talking and expression; it was the same as how manipulative people would manipulate their opponents.
Though Kurumi didn't think of this man as evil, he was only someone protecting his country with everything he could do. But this also meant that he was easy to manipulate when something included his country, aka Japan.
Kurumi could use everything for her own gain. Even if the person she used or killed was an innocent and nice person, it only meant more useful 'toys' for Kurumi.
"Hello, Mr. Gunhee. My name is Kurumi Tokisaki, and my friend's name here is Kuroka. Nice to meet you," Kurumi said after organizing her own thoughts in a matter of seconds and extended her own soft arm to shake hands with Gunhee.
Gunhee, of course, felt the powers both girls held; his experience as a veteran S-Rank Hunter was screaming at him that they were more dangerous than the monsters he had seen in his whole lifetime. This made him more nervous than he already was.
When he heard two new S-Ranks had appeared from his country, he felt something he hadn't felt in a long time: 'hope.' A hope for his country to rise in ranks again and hold their head high with pride. After all, an S-Rank hunter was no joke matter. It was a big matter enough to give new S-Ranks the best treatment ever, maybe even better treatment than the president itself gets. They needed—no, had to keep them in their country. They had already lost 1 S-Rank to America; they couldn't lose 2 more.
This already made him nervous when he rushed here, but now feeling their 'newly' awakened power this powerful and opposing made him more nervous and... somewhat fearful.
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Tokisaki and Ms. Kuroka. I heard both of you got S-Rank scores from the Mana Test. You probably know why I'm here, but I will say it to make sure: I'm here to invite Ms. Tokisaki and Ms. Kuroka to the Japan Hunter Guild. As you know, our country has a small number of S-Ranks compared to other countries. As a result, we have to do anything to get our country's S-Ranks to ourselves, not getting captured or stolen by other countries," Go explained his coming here and reasons without hesitation. He knew lying here would only make his first impression on them worse, so he decided to be truthful.
He also covered some important messages with good words, but he was not sure if they bought it or not.
'Ah... I see, 'anything' he says...' Kurumi said with a smile in her mind. If it's 'anything,' why not take advantage of it, right?
"If so, it's our pleasure to join our country as new S-Ranks. But of course, we only have one condition," Kurumi said afterward, not waiting even a minute to respond back as she had already come here with this in mind.
Hearing this, Go's ears perked up. Instantly giving his full attention to Kurumi, this was an opportunity that he couldn't miss no matter what.
"Of course! Just list it, and I will try my best to meet your expectations, Ms. Kurumi," Go said with a genuine smile on his face this time. As long as her condition was not overwhelming, he would do it without hesitation. But who was he in the situation of refusing if they asked for something excessive?
Only Kurumi's words was gonna decide that.
...
..
.
"Me and My Friend here want to creat our own guild instead of joining Hunter's Guild. Is it okay?" Kurumi said after a small pause, Her glove covered right hand was still covering her mouth like a elegant lady as she spoke with Go. (I don't remember his name, don't hate me)
It would be lie if Go didn't expected this somehow. After all Kurumi and Kuroka looked really prideful to work for someone else.
"Yes, Of course. You can do as you see it fit. You only need to sign a contract that makes sure that you will not go to another country, the Contract will be made by a Awakener with a contract skill so don't worry about It's insecurity." Go said hurriedly, not wanting to wait Kurumi any longer as they look uninterested after the last words.
