Chapter 1 - The interview

Eva's alarm blared to life at 9am, jolting her out of bed. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and swung her legs over the side of the bed, her feet searching for the soft carpet. After a quick stretch, she got up and padded to the bathroom, the cold tiles a shock to her warm feet. She combed her hair, the tangles falling away as she worked out the knots. She had her bath, dressed and was ready to leave. The interview loomed in her mind, but she pushed the nerves aside and focused on the task at hand. She grabbed the picture of her late parents and stared at it

" I'll pay them back for what they did to you both" Eva said. With a deep breath, she headed out the door.

Eva hailed a taxi with a sense of urgency, her voice rising as she called out to the passing cabs.

"Taxi! Taxi!"

She glanced at her wristwatch, her anxiety spiking.

"Oh no, I'm late!"

A taxi finally pulled up, and the driver leaned over to ask, "Where can I take you, ma'am?"

"Westwood," Eva replied, her mind already racing ahead to her destination.

She slid into the back seat and began scrolling through her emails, her eyes fixed on the message from Maesar Inc. confirming her interview.

The words blurred together as her nerves took over, her mind rehearsing all the possible questions and answers that could make or break her chance at the job.

Eva arrived at Maesar Inc, her eyes widening at the imposing structure. She paid the taxi fare and stepped inside. A tall blonde receptionist, Solan, approached her. "Good morning," Eva said, receiving a curt "Yeah, go that way" in response, Solan's eyes fixed on her phone screen, her tone dismissive.

Eva headed to the waiting area, joining other applicants awaiting their turn. She sat patiently, observing the bustling office environment, her eyes scanning the space with interest.

Rosa, a suited secretary with brown hair and blue eyes, stepped out of her office and called out, "Eva Blakely!"

Eva stood up, signaling her presence.

Inside the office, Rosa reviewed Eva's CV, nodding in approval.

"You didn't mention your pack affiliation," Rosa said with a hint of teasing.

Eva adjusted her collar, "How did you know?"

Rosa smiled, "The marks on your neck gave it away. We prefer our own kind; no humans need apply. So, which pack do you belong to?"

Eva replied, "I'm from a Parisian pack, but I'm starting fresh here."

Rosa scanned Eva's CV, "You've never worked in customer care, but your credentials are impressive. What did you do in Paris?"

Eva replied, "Nanny jobs and hospital secretary work."

Rosa concluded, "We'll be in touch, Eva. Thank you."

Eva thanked her and left the office.

As Eva departed the office, she took in the company's dynamic atmosphere, wondering who was at the helm. Her gaze drifted across the staff, noticing their focus and interactions.

Lost in thought, she collided with a staff member, sending his files tumbling. Apologetic, they gathered the papers together, their eyes locking in a peculiar glance.

"Hi, I'm Alex," he introduced himself, adjusting his glasses.

"I'm Eva, sorry again for the mess," she replied, her cheeks flushing.

"No worries, I've endured worse," Alex said with a smile, taking the remaining files. " Are you a new staff member?" He asked.

"Not a staff member yet, just here for an interview," Eva replied to his query.

"Hope you get the job, you're charming and have a lovely voice," Alex complimented, making Eva blush.

"Thank you, she said.

"I've gotta go Eva, these files won't sort themselves out, goodbye Eva!" Alex said.

They parted ways as Eva continued towards the exit.

Eva strolled through Davon city, heading to her favorite lunch spot, "Davon's Eat n Drink". She smiled as she approached the familiar restaurant, glad it was within walking distance. Inside, she waited briefly before a waiter greeted her. "What can I get for you?" he asked. "Two burgers and a coke, please," Eva replied. Soon, her order arrived, and she dug in, savoring her burger while scrolling through her phone.

Eva's phone buzzed with an urgent message. She swiftly switched from social media to the text, her eyes widening as she read the words:

"Company name: MAESER INC. CEO: Mason Everton."

Her mind raced as she realized it was the same company she had applied to work for. "This can't be a coincidence," she thought.

Eva quickly dialed her best friend, Kris. "Hey, girl!" Kris answered, her voice cheerful.

"Guess what, Kris?" Eva asked, her tone serious.

"You got a new boyfriend?" Kris joked.

Eva laughed dryly. "No, it's much bigger than that. I finally found out who killed my parents, and it's the CEO of the company I applied to work for - Mason Everton."

There was a pause at the other end of the line before Kris responded, her voice laced with concern. "Oh my God, Eva, that's huge. Are you sure you want to pursue this? I mean, I know you're hurt, but your parents would want you to move on."

Eva's laughter was cold and determined. "You know me better than that, Kris. I take revenge seriously."

Kris sighed. "Just be careful, babe. I don't want anything to happen to you."

Eva got up from her seat, dropping some dollar bills on the table and signaling the waiter to get the payment. "I'll talk to you later, boo," she said, ending the call with a determined glint in her eye.

Eva rushed home, seeking the comfort of her bed, and collapsed onto the soft pillows with a sigh of relief. Her long blonde hair cascaded around her like a golden halo, framing her heart-shaped face and piercing blue eyes. At 23, she stood tall at 6 feet, her slender figure exuding grace.

The memories of her parents, Kira and Lukas, still weighed heavily on her mind. She had been in Paris when she received the devastating call - her parents, respected leaders of their pack in Davon city, had been brutally murdered. The shock still felt like a fresh wound.

As she lay in bed, Eva's thoughts shifted to her lackluster love life. A string of short-term relationships and fleeting hookups had left her feeling unfulfilled. She yearned for something meaningful, something that would fill the void within her. With a sigh, she reached for her phone and began scrolling through Tinder, searching for the perfect match.

Just as she was about to message her latest match, a notification from MAESER INC popped up on her screen. Eva's heart skipped as she hesitated to open the email, her mind filled with uncertainty and dread. She felt a chill run down her spine as she struggled to muster the courage to face whatever news awaited her.
