As the last day of middle school begins, you notice that people aren't usually this happy. However you take it as people are just excited for summer. Once you reach your desk a familiar face comes and greets you with her long pink hair and perfect makeup. "Good morning Hinata!" Greeting me with a smile. "Good morning to you too Asahi" I said smiling. "I hear there going to have a lecture on runes later today! I can't wait to figure out mine!" Asahi said very happily. "To be honest I don't know how I feel about this rune thing. It feels like we're playing God!" I said with a concerned voice. A tall man with graying hair walks in the classroom. He sets his papers down on the teacher's desk. The old man clears his throat and begins his lecture. "Hello! I'm professor Oakland. I will be here today to help your teacher explain the recent phenomena that is runes. Runes are our new way of life! Everyone has one even you kids! What benefit do runes have for us? Well they give us super powers for one! Depending on your rune you will be given certain powers from that rune. It was once thought that they came from the gods as a gift to humanity. Later today we will try to awaken your runes so you can use them. Anyways I'm off to another class! See you guys later when we awaken your runes." professor Oakland monologuing not letting anyone get a question in. "I wish we could get a word in I have so many questions!" I said. "Let's all head to the gym where the awakening will be taking place" said the teacher.

In the gym there was various machines sat up with various sizes and complexity. "I'm terrified" I said trembling. "Why? Today you get to figure out your rune!" Asahi said with a smile. "Because this looks like a mad scientist's lab and I'm still iffy on the whole rune thing" I said sweating. We line up in front a machine and wait for our turn. Asahi was in front of me and I fear for her me and Asahi have been friends for a long time. I've known her since elementary school! "Hey Hinata I'm back!" Said Asahi. "Huh you left?" I said confused. "Yeah while you were daydreaming away I got my rune awakened, I got Sagittarius's bow. Like look at this!" Asahi said as a bow made of light materializes in her hand. "That's awesome! It's my turn now isn't it" I said with a scared voice. "Yep, now move dummy!" Asahi playfully pushes me forward unaware of any fear I have. Once I reach the machine I read a label with instructions on how to awaken my rune. All it says is to put my left hand on the machine and it will be awakened. I hesitantly put my palm on the machine and expecting pain or any sensation a robotic voice said the words "Your rune has been awakened, you have the rune Everlasting Flame. Home room will provide a handout for all known information around your rune". "Well that was anticlimactic..." I said to myself almost crying in shame.

Near the end of the day me and Asahi sit next to each other in home room. "I've been reading the handout they gave me about the Everlasting Flame rune. Seems strong but I can't figure out to use it. How on earth were you able to summon your bow right there?! I have no idea how you managed to do that!" I said very frustrated with myself. "Well... You know we don't need to use fancy machines to awaken our runes... When we are at our lowest they awaken to help us through it..." Asahi said embarrassingly. "Hold on a second! What!?" I said with the most concern in my life. "Nevermind you heard nothing! I didn't say anything your just imagining things. Your just going insane!" Asahi said hastily not taking any breaths in her speech. "No what happened! You implied you were at your lowest at some point and are trying to cover it up so it sounds recent. I have the right to be concerned. Please tell me what's happening!" I said in an upset and tone. "I said nothing! You absolute moron!" Asahi snaps leaving everyone in silence. The bell rings and we go our separate ways. "I really hope I didn't mess things up with Asahi... We've been through a lot and I hope I didn't go to far. I was just trying to help her." I thought to myself as I walk myself home sad at the absence of Asahi.
