Chapter 15 - You’re on top of the car?

After breakfast, Karan, with a curious expression, turned to Yuvika and asked, "So, what's your plan for today?"

Yuvika smiled, a hint of determination in her eyes. "I'm going to take over the company that my grandmother left me. It's time to step into the role she had always envisioned for me."

Arjun, who had been quietly sipping his coffee, looked up and nodded approvingly. "That's a great decision," he said with a smile. "You've got what it takes, Yuvika."

Yuvika gave a small, appreciative nod, the weight of her grandmother's legacy settling in her heart. She stood up, ready for the day ahead, and soon, she and her three lawyer friends—Kapoor's loyal team—were on their way to the company.

Arjun had offered to drive, and Yuvika accepted, enjoying the quiet comfort of the ride. As they approached the car, Karan instinctively moved toward the backseat, eager to sit beside Yuvika and continue their conversation. But to his surprise, Priya swiftly slipped into the seat next to her, making herself comfortable without even a glance in Karan's direction.

Karan raised an eyebrow. It wasn't like Priya to pass up a chance to sit near Arjun, especially when she had always found excuses to be closer to him. But today, something felt off. Priya wasn't taking her usual position beside Arjun in the front seat. Instead, she chose to sit beside Yuvika, avoiding any close interaction with Arjun.

Karan, with his usual sharp perception, immediately recognized the shift in the atmosphere. He knew Priya had feelings for Arjun, and she'd always taken any opportunity to get closer to him. But now, it was different. She seemed distant, her attention focused entirely on Yuvika, and even though Karan gave her a chance to join him in the backseat, she remained resolute in her decision to sit beside Yuvika.

As the car began to roll forward, Karan couldn't resist making a lighthearted, yet pointed comment. He leaned back casually in his seat, eyes flicking between Arjun and Priya. "Funny, isn't it? The quietest of us often make the loudest decisions," he said cryptically, his gaze resting on Priya for just a moment before he looked out the window.

Both Arjun and Priya knew exactly what he meant. Arjun's eyebrows furrowed for a brief second, but he said nothing, sensing the tension hanging between them. Priya, on the other hand, simply ignored Karan's remark, choosing instead to turn to Yuvika and engage her in light conversation about the plans for the day.

She smiled and chatted with Yuvika, her voice steady, but her eyes avoiding Arjun's gaze. It was as though she was doing everything she could to maintain an emotional distance, something Karan noted with growing interest.

Karan leaned back further, his sharp mind already piecing things together. He had a feeling the tension between Arjun and Priya was only the beginning of something more complex. But for now, he would let them figure it out.

Yuvika, deep in thought as the car cruised along the road, suddenly felt a familiar presence, her heart aching with longing. Without speaking aloud, she asked in her mind, Grandma, are you with me?

Grandma's voice echoed softly in her thoughts, filled with an unexpected childlike excitement. Oh, I'm with you, dear. I'm sitting on top of the car, watching the road. It's so exciting! In this ghost form, I can do all the crazy things I've always wanted to do. It's like a new adventure every moment!

Yuvika, taken aback, blinked rapidly in disbelief. What? You're on top of the car? she thought, half-expecting her grandmother to respond with a laugh.

But before she could process the thought further, Yuvika blurted out loud," What do you mean you're on the top of the car?"

Her sudden outburst startled everyone in the car. Arjun, caught off guard, slammed on the brakes without thinking, jerking the car to a sudden stop. The force of the stop threw everyone forward, their bodies lurching against their seatbelts. Karan, who was in the back, gripped the seat in front of him, his face contorting with surprise. Priya, too, was thrown forward, her hand instinctively grabbing the dashboard.

The car came to a screeching halt, the tires squealing as the vehicle rocked back and forth.

Karan quickly turned to Yuvika, his voice laced with concern, "What happened? Who's on top of the car?"

Before Yuvika could explain, Karan, his eyes wide with urgency, bolted out of the car and raced around to the roof, checking frantically. But when he reached the top and looked around, there was nothing. No one. Just the clear blue sky above and the empty rooftop.

His confusion deepened, but there was no sign of anyone or anything unusual.

Meanwhile, Yuvika sat frozen in her seat, her heart pounding in her chest. She felt as though she was caught between two worlds, the reality of the car's abrupt stop and the surreal conversation in her mind. Grandma? she thought, half-expecting a response. But all she heard was a faint giggle, like a mischievous child.

Suddenly, a soft thud echoed, followed by a sharp, almost theatrical cry that filled the air. Yuvika's eyes widened in shock. Her grandmother, still in her ethereal form, had somehow lost her balance from the top of the car and tumbled down.
