Chapter 17 - From Desire to Ruin

The city burned around them, the flames licking at the heavens as shadows danced in wild, chaotic patterns. Kael Draven stood at the heart of the inferno, his silver eyes blazing with fury and unrelenting hunger. Before him loomed the Void, its form towering and ethereal, its glowing eyes fixed on him with a mixture of anger and sorrow.

"Kael," the Void said, its voice resonating with the weight of a thousand lifetimes. **"This must stop. You cannot go on like this."**

Kael's laughter was sharp and bitter, cutting through the crackling of the flames. "You don't get to tell me to stop," he snarled. "You're mine. You said it yourself. I'll burn every city, every life, every star in the sky if it means keeping you."

The Void's presence grew heavier, its form shifting and solidifying as it stepped closer to him. **"Your obsession has blinded you. You are no longer the man I chose to champion my power. You are a creature of madness and desire, and I cannot allow this to continue."**

Kael's smirk widened, though his hands trembled at his sides. "Then stop me," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "If you think you can."

---

The battle began with an explosion of power that shook the burning city to its foundations. The Void moved with the grace of a celestial being, its form shifting and flickering as it unleashed waves of energy that tore through the streets. Kael countered with his own dark magic, the shadows surging around him in violent, writhing tendrils.

The clash of their powers was apocalyptic, their attacks colliding with enough force to send shockwaves rippling through the earth. Buildings crumbled, the ground cracked, and the very air seemed to scream with the weight of their conflict.

"You think you can deny me?" Kael shouted, his voice raw with fury. "You think you can leave me? You're mine, Void. You'll always be mine!"

The Void's glowing eyes narrowed, its voice cutting through the chaos. **"You do not own me, Kael. And I will not be bound by your madness."**

Kael let out a roar of frustration, his dark energy surging outward in a wave that engulfed the Void. But the Void countered with a burst of pure light, shattering his attack and forcing him back.

---

The fight raged on, the destruction spreading far beyond the burning city. Kael's desperation fueled his attacks, his magic growing darker and more unstable with each passing moment. But no matter how hard he fought, the Void remained unyielding, its power an impenetrable wall that he couldn't break through.

"You think this will stop me?" Kael growled, his silver eyes blazing. "You think I'll give up?"

He surged forward, his magic coiling around him like a living thing as he closed the distance between them. The Void prepared to counter, its form glowing brighter as it gathered its power.

But Kael didn't attack.

Instead, he grabbed the Void, his hands trembling as they closed around its shifting form.

---

The Void froze for a moment, its glowing eyes widening in shock. **"Kael, what are you—"**

Kael's smirk returned, though there was no warmth in it. "You said we're one, didn't you?" he murmured, his voice low and dangerous. "Then let's be one."

Before the Void could react, Kael pulled it closer, his grip unrelenting. His body pressed against its shifting form, and he forced their connection into something physical, something primal.

The Void's energy surged in response, its form flickering wildly as it struggled against him. **"Kael, stop this!"** it shouted, its voice trembling with both anger and desperation. **"You're crossing a line you cannot return from!"**

But Kael didn't stop. He couldn't.

The hunger inside him had taken over completely, driving him to claim the Void in the only way he knew how.

---

For a moment, the world seemed to stand still. The flames of the burning city flickered and dimmed, the shadows grew silent, and the air grew heavy with an unbearable tension.

And then, the Void acted.

Kael barely had time to react before a surge of energy exploded from the Void, tearing through him with unimaginable force. His body convulsed, his silver eyes widening as pain unlike anything he had ever known consumed him.

"You brought this on yourself, Kael Draven," the Void said, its voice cold and final. **"I warned you. I begged you to stop. But you refused to listen."**

Kael fell to his knees, his dark magic dissipating as his strength left him. He looked up at the Void, his expression a mixture of anger, confusion, and betrayal. "You can't do this," he whispered, his voice trembling. "You're mine..."

The Void's glowing eyes softened, but there was no mercy in its voice. **"You were mine, Kael. But you lost yourself. And now, you must face the consequences."**

---

With a final burst of energy, the Void struck Kael down, its power ripping through his body and soul. His vision blurred, his strength fading as he felt himself slipping into darkness.

But death was not the end.

Kael's consciousness lingered, trapped in the void between worlds. He felt his body unravel, his soul reduced to a fragment of what it once was. And then, he was reborn.

When Kael opened his eyes, he wasn't standing in the ruins of the city or the shadowed halls of the Void's domain. He wasn't even standing at all.

He was crawling.

---

Kael's vision was hazy as he looked around, his body weak and alien. He tried to move, but his limbs were small and sluggish, his movements awkward and uncoordinated.

"What... what is this?" he muttered, his voice faint and distorted.

The answer came not in words, but in the faint, mocking laughter of the Void.

Kael looked down at himself, his silver eyes widening in horror as he realized what he had become. His once-powerful body, capable of wielding immense magic and striking fear into the hearts of gods, was gone. In its place was the fragile, slimy form of a small worm, wriggling pathetically in the dirt.

"No," Kael whispered, his voice trembling. "This can't be happening. This isn't real."

The Void's voice echoed in his mind, its tone both cold and amused. **"This is your punishment, Kael Draven. You allowed your obsession to consume you, and now, you are less than nothing."**

Kael tried to scream, but the sound came out as a pathetic squeal. He writhed in the dirt, his mind racing as he struggled to process what had happened.

"You can't do this to me," he whispered, his voice trembling. "You can't leave me like this."

**"You did this to yourself, Kael,"** the Void replied. **"You allowed your desire to destroy you. And now, this is all you are."**

---

Kael's thoughts spiraled into madness as he squirmed in the dirt, his once-great power reduced to nothing. The hunger inside him remained, sharper and more insistent than ever, but he had no way to satisfy it.

The Void was gone, and he was alone.

Far above, in the celestial sanctum, the gods watched in silence.

"It is done," one said, their voice filled with relief.

"Kael Draven has been reduced to nothing," another added. "His reign of terror is over."

But the leader of the council frowned, their gaze fixed on the writhing worm below.

"Nothing is ever truly over," they said. "Kael Draven is dangerous, even like this. And if he finds a way to rise again, the realms may not survive."

The heavens trembled as the gods prepared for what was to come, knowing that Kael's story was far from over.

---

Kael squirmed in the dirt, his mind a whirlwind of rage, despair, and unrelenting hunger. He had lost everything—his power, his purpose, his connection to the Void.

But even as he writhed, a single thought burned in his fractured mind.

"I'll come back," he whispered, his voice trembling with determination. "I'll come back, and I'll make you mine again."

And so, the cycle began anew.
