Chapter 17 - Breakthrough and Beyond

Alexander sat next to Eryndor in a round table at a courtyard. This was Eryndor house. He didn't belong to any clan but his father was a powerful man at the Elite apex stage. They waited for a while until a group of eight people their age came to the yard. The newcomers sat on the vacant seats around the table. There was a total of five boys and three girls. As the sat and waited Alexander stood to his feet.

"Before this meeting begins, I would like to inform you that I will be the leader by default. If you have a problem with that then leave now." After a few minutes three people left. Leaving now three boys and and two girls.

"Okay, so now we can really begin. All of you already know why you are here, so state your wants and let's see what will happen." Alexander said and turn to the first person who was a sword user with wind magic.

"I want teeth of every single creature." Cole the sword user said. Everyone looked at him with a weird look.

'Of course there would be weird people in this group.' Alexander thought with a sigh. "Okay that can be arranged."

Everyone stated what they wanted and those who's request was too overboard negotiated and came to an understanding.

After a few minutes of discussion they all left and went their separate ways including Alexander.

A few weeks later inside the safe zone of the east side, a battle was coming to an end. A group of corrupted dogs were battling a group of kids in a nice battle formation.

Eryndor jumped high and smashed his great sword to ground and a pit opened under three corrupted dogs. Cole, using the opportunity jumped in the air.

*Wind swipe*

Three swipes of his sword went into the pit and killed the dogs. He landed next to a girl who was in the centre and was using wood magic. She was a bow user. Due to her rank she couldn't control any plants in the area but she could use them as her eyes and saw the whole battle through them.

"There is a total of seven dogs remaining excluding the boss which Alex is fighting." Mimi said as he removed her hand from the soil and grabbed her bows.

"I still can't believe that guy is fighting that animal on his own. It's close to the 1st form for crying out loud." Cole said as he rushed to help Eryndor.

"Don't be that surprised." A dagger flew from the shadows and hit a bog in its shoulders giving Eryndor that chance to end it. The on in the shadows came out. It was a guy with a mask around his face. He was also a wind mage and a dagger user. He was training as an assassin.

They kept battling for a few minutes before the four remaining dogs felt something and retreated. Cole sighed and sat on the ground.

"There goes all those teeth." He said with a sorrow expression.

"Shut up you creep." Eryndor collapse on the ground, his mana almost up.

"Should we go and find him?" Mimi suggested as he looked in a particular direction.

"You should understand why the dogs decided to run away, Mimi." The assassin boy came out and retrieved all his daggers. Just as everyone was being claim and collective, a boy appeared out of nowhere. Alexander stood and watched his comrades with a small.

"Well done, all of you." Alexander said.

"Says the guy that defeated the boss." Cole exclaimed.

Alexander only smiled and walked towards the exit of the forest. With everyone having no choice but to follow. They came out and entered the town. The got to a point and stopped.

"Same time tomorrow?" Cole asked as he was ready to go home.

"See you." Eryndor said as he also left.

Everyone bid farewell with Alexander saying nothing and only smiling. He got home and took a bath. He took his robes and climb on his bed.

With a smile, "Show me."

Over the couple of weeks Alexander had used his new 'friends' to grow stronger. Training with them and battling powerful corrupted at the edge of the safe zone had helped him grow stronger faster than expected. In ten months he had grown powerful and was now going through his first break through.

He closed his eyes and went deep inside his consciousness. A dark red aura came out his of his body. In his consciousness he felt his aura raising but suddenly hit a wall. With a lot of effort he kept hitting the wall trying to break it. He kept trying and each time he felt like it was close to breaking and just needed a small amount of effort. He didn't dare to stop as he feared that he wouldn't get the same opportunity again. He kept going trying to break the wall he felt getting weak again and again until...he finally did it. He broke the wall and his aura suddenly felt free. He felt like a was trapped underground for decades and finally escaped and saw the sun. He felt refreshed like a long day of working under the sun and finally taking a well deserved bath.

Slowly he opened his eyes and through his window he saw the sun raising. It had taken him the whole night to break through. With a smile he opened the screen.

{Congratulations for breaking through to the warrior rank}

{Shadow skills have been unlocked}

{You are ready to face the second trial of the Shadow Monarch}

{Dash and Light step do not suit the user with his shadow attitude. They have been turned into skill points}

{Total skill points: 25}

"A little bit disappointed that I lost dash and Light step but at least I got skill points fo them." Alexander nodded in agreement. "Well since I can go through the second trial why not do it now."

He closed his eyes again and focused deeply in his consciousness once again. He appeared inside his consciousness and saw the temple once again. He exhaled and walked forward. He stepped on the stairs in time and went up. He got to the front of the temple and pushed the doors open which was surprisingly easy to do. He entered and saw nothing. Taking a few steps forward, the environment changed into a grand hall.

The hall was huge with giant pillars all around. Alexander's breath was taken away with how beautiful the hall looked. The hall was truly beautiful with nice designs all over. Suddenly in front of him shadows started to move at the centre of the hall. A few seconds later and a figure was formed.

The figure stood tall, its presence radiating an aura of dark majesty. It was a knight, crafted entirely from shadows that seemed to writhe and twist like living darkness. Its armor was a deep, foreboding black, with edges that seemed to blur and blend with the surrounding air. The knight's face was hidden behind a helmet with a visor that seemed to absorb the light around it, making it impossible to discern any features. Despite its ominous appearance, the shadow knight exuded an air of quiet power, as if it was waiting for something - or someone.
