Cave burial is actually a funeral custom adopted by the Miao people in Gaopo. The Miao people there call cave burial "Badongdu". It is said that "Ba" means cave, and "Dongdu" means dead body in Miao language. Together, it means "dead body in the cave".
What kind of burial method is this?
According to the customs there, after nightfall, dozens of young men lift the coffin, and the whole village sends the dead out of the village with torches. Women cannot follow because women's yang energy is not as strong as men's, and they are afraid of bumping into the body. According to their ancient rules, they are not allowed to walk on the road that has been passed by people, nor are they allowed to use machetes to open the road. They must walk on an unfamiliar road. Dozens of people carry the coffin, pull and push it forward, and send the heavy coffin into the dead cave halfway up the mountain, and then turn around and leave together. No one can look back at the dead again, and no one will ever walk into this resting place for the dead again.
However, this custom is only used in Gaopo, because it is a typical karst landform with many underground caves, so there is such a custom of cave burial. The Han people in the Central Plains would not use it. However, later when the Taoists studied cave burials, they found a feature - this cave burial is indeed remarkable. Anyone who is full of resentment after death can gradually appease the resentment and hostility of the deceased by burying them in a cave...
