Gary was equally delighted. With his main Electric-type Pokémon achieving its final evolution, he felt very satisfied.
"Alright, next up is to get down to business." Accompanied by Electivire and Charizard, Gary continued deeper into the cave. "By the way, Gary, is it really okay that I caught an Omastar?" Lorelei asked as they walked. "These Pokémon should be valuable research materials, right?"
Gary waved his hand dismissively. "Sister Lorelei, as the saying goes, rarity breeds value. You've seen how many ancient Pokémon there are. My grandpa and the others could probably eat them for hot pot for a month... I estimate that once artificial breeding yields results, these types of Pokémon will soon become common. "Roar!!" At the same time, Charizard roared angrily, spreading its wings as it looked at the rushing Pokémon above. Electivire quickly positioned itself in front of Gary. "What the—an ambush!" Gary rubbed his teeth together and then touched his head; he found nearly a finger-width of hair had been cut off, with blood seeping from his scalp!
"Do you need me to step in?" Lorelei's fingers cracked as she clenched them in anger. "No need; let Charizard handle it!" Feeling furious about his bald spot, Gary was already angry. "You can hit my head all you want; you think you can shave my hair without consequences?" The dark green energy surged around him as his mood transferred completely to Charizard.
"Roar~" The flames on Charizard's tail flared up as it glared at the nearby Pokémon. Not far away on a stone pillar sat an entirely gray-skinned Pokémon with sharp claws and a mouth full of vicious fangs yawning lazily. It didn't take any notice of the anger from Gary and Charizard at all. In ancient times, it was the fossil king here; no Pokémon was stronger than it! Thus, in Aerodactyl's subconsciousness, it didn't regard Gary as a threat at all.
"Charizard, ten minutes—if you can't take it down by then, I'm going to gang up on it. You know what to do." With arms crossed and taking a deep breath, Gary said calmly. "No wonder you're Gary; your ability to adjust your mindset is not something ordinary people can achieve," said Lorelei, nodding in approval.
Boom! Charizard's wings glowed white as it shot upwards toward the opponent. Steel Wing! This move was quite clever—not only did it maintain safety while dashing through the cave but also dealt significant damage to its opponent! "Ugh~!" Aerodactyl opened its mouth wide and let out a strange laugh before taking off into the sky.
The aerial battle commenced! Facing Charizard's Steel Wing attack, Aerodactyl executed a 360-degree maneuver that cleanly evaded Charizard's assault! At the same time, its wide-open mouth bit down mercilessly on Charizard's shoulder! Crunch! A solid bite made Charizard cry out in pain! No wonder it's a predator; such bloody tactics were straight-up hunting methods!
"Charizard, use Dragon Claw directly!" Gary shouted angrily; this Aerodactyl was treating him like an appetizer! "Roar!" Enduring the pain, Charizard twisted its body and concentrated massive energy into its right claw before striking Aerodactyl's belly with devastating force! Boom! An explosion erupted as Aerodactyl cried out in pain and retreated quickly away from Charizard.
Charizard immediately flapped its wings to pursue it. Boom! Suddenly, a stalactite struck Charizard's wing; its speed instantly decreased. In contrast, Aerodactyl thrived in the complex terrain of the dark cave like a fish in water. "This isn't working; we need to change locations!" Gary frowned and then looked at Lorelei. "Sister Lorelei, this place is almost done; let's head up."
Lorelei nodded in agreement. Immediately, Gary commanded: "Charizard, lure Aerodactyl to the entrance; let's fight outside!" Charizard nodded and opened its mouth to unleash a Flamethrower! Boom! The Flamethrower swept past Aerodactyl as it turned to look back.
Charizard hovered in place and extended both claws toward Aerodactyl while making friendly gestures... Charizard was making silly faces... Aerodactyl turned around and chased after him—if you're brave enough not to run! Charizard turned tail and ran while sticking out its tongue teasingly—if you're brave enough to chase me!
During this momentary distraction, Gary and Lorelei returned to ground level with Golduck's help. Boom! The next second saw two figures shoot up into the sky: Charizard and Aerodactyl! In the vast sky, Charizard immediately showcased its flying advantage.
Having learned flying techniques from Dragonite, Charizard fully spread its wings without holding back—making even Aerodactyl feel somewhat overwhelmed. "Ugh!" Aerodactyl opened its mouth wide and suddenly released an orange energy wave. "It's Hyper Beam!" warned Lorelei from beside them.
"Charizard, climb higher and circle around behind it!" With clarity of thought, Gary knew they couldn't expose their backs during aerial combat—a strict rule to follow. Charizard shot upwards at high speed before spinning around sharply to come behind Aerodactyl.
"Dragon Rage!" shouted Gary loudly. Boom! Blue dragon flames erupted forth as they struck Aerodactyl squarely on its back. "Grab it!" urged Gary, seizing the opportunity for an attack! Charizard accelerated suddenly before using both arms with great force to lock around Aerodactyl's neck tightly.
"Toss it down to Earth!" Without hesitation, this was revenge for his hair loss! Whoosh! Holding onto Aerodactyl while spinning twice-and-a-half times in mid-air, Charizard suddenly dove toward the ground.
Wrapped in spiraling air currents, Charizard executed an over-the-shoulder throw! Boom! Aerodactyl crashed hard into the ground while Charizard landed firmly on both feet afterward! Take my move: Dragon Tail Smash!
Boom! Dust flew up from where they landed as Charizard shook off its tail nonchalantly before standing upright again. Aerodactyl lay there foaming at the mouth—its reign of terror had come to an end. Looking at the fossil Pokémon cautiously peeking out from inside the cave entrance, Gary shook his finger at them before clenching his fist. "Get lost!"
Whoosh! The entrance instantly cleared out... Satisfied, Gary patted Charizard on the shoulder. "Well done; you've made me proud. I'll reward you with half a pound of sweet potatoes later..." Charizard licked its lips—sweet potatoes are delicious!
"Ouch~" Holding his head again, he winced. "Damn Aerodactyl! What grudge do you have against me? You even drew blood..."
"Alright now; let's go back so I can treat your wounds." Concerned about him but also anxious for time constraints, Lorelei suggested urgently. "Okay~ Thanks for your help Sister Lorelei~" Covering his head again while feeling satisfied with their progress together outside of the canyon.
