It is a rainy, lonely night when Lotus Grayhard, a simple, unknown high schooler with no ambition nor goal, starts to read a book that the teacher assigned for the end of the summer.
"Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost."
He stops himself from reading more and, already bored, mutters to himself:
- "Why did the teacher have to assign this book? It's so boring. This 'Dante Alighieri' must have smoked something pretty strong to write this... thing."
He then closes the book, too bored to keep going, and leaves it on the desk.
- "I'm gonna read it tomorrow. No more procrastinating."
He says, not even believing his own words himself.
He places himself on the bed, falling asleep right after.
It's not like it wasn't expected since he's as lazy as a sloth, if not more.
...
[Did you think I would write something more about the night? Not right at all, dear.]
A few hours pass by, and he wakes up.
Lotus opens his eyes and immediately notices something really strange.
- "Where the hell am I?"
He says groggily while looking around his surroundings, not recognising them at all.
While looking around, the young man notices that he has never been in a place like this, but something he saw made him finally understand where he is.
Around him, there is a dark forest with a small hill, enlightened by the only ray of sunlight present in the sky, far from him.
- "Oh no..."
I don't think there is much more to say anymore to let you readers guess what has happened since it should be pretty clear just by this.
He woke up in the midway upon the journey of his life.
He woke up in "The Divine Comedy".
